Roommates [Saitou and Yuzan]

“Finally, I can unpack now~” Yuzan said to himself as he walked down the hall, his luggage following behind him. “They said I’d have roomates so I wonder who I’ll be living with from now own.. I hope it’s nobody bad.” He whispered and approached the door, which was already opened and had a new face peeking out of it. 

“Oh! Hello, there. I’m guessing you’re one of my roomates?” The ravenette asked the other, wondering what he’d be like. 

“Heheh, whoever you are, I bet this’ll be fun!”

Saitou opened the door wider and nodded, gesturing for the man to come inside. This man didn't seem to appear to be a bad person, though his cheerful attitude did remind Saitou of someone he knew from his old school. 

"I am Saitou Hajime, it is nice to meet you." Saitou said, giving the man a short bow. He watched the raven-haired man, a little curiously. "Fun..." Saitou repeated. He didn't know if it was really a word to describe his situation, but he supposed it could be.He allowed himself to relax slightly, a small, barely noticeable smile curving his lips.

"What is your name?" he asked the man.

Roommates [Saitou and Yuzan]

The house was quiet, as it always was ever since Saitou moved here. Some might have said that it was too quiet but in Saitou's opinion, it was a nice sort of silence. Currently, Saitou was in his room, storing the wooden katana he used for training in his closet. He had just gotten home not too long ago from his daily practice sessions in the park. It may have seemed strange to some people that he would devote so much of his time to kenjutsu, but it was how he grew up; it would be strange not to.

As soon as he closed the door to the closet, he walked out to the living room. His ears caught the sound of footsteps outside, stopping at his door. As it was the very last one down the hall, Saitou wondered who it could be. Perhaps, a new roommate? His thoughts were confirmed as the doorbell rang.

Saitou walked to the door, opening it andlooking at the man who stood outside.

"Good evening," he greeted.

Scowling in her defeat, she jerked her head away from his weapon and exhaled. “Whatever.” She mumbled, swinging her sword around. “I won’t let it happen again.” She said briefly before springing onto the older man. She aimed for his center this time.

Saitou was quick yet again in blocking her, She lost her footing while she tried to recover, nearly toppling over if Saitou hadn’t caught her arm. She nodded her thanks and righted herself. She stared in amazement. 

“How long have you been doing this?” 23 years was enough time to get quite the experience under his belt.

Saitou relaxed his posture, letting go of Taiga's arm as he did so. He was surprised; though Taiga was still a student, her skills with a sword was good. She was not a master, but with enough training, she could be.

"I have been learning ever since I was 5." Saitou replied, relaxing his arm so his sword rested by his side, tip barely touching the ground.

"You, too, seem to have some experience with the sword." Saitou commented. He wondered what his old classmates would do if they were here; he knew for one, that some would be nonchalant, others would comment on how a small girl like her would be able to swing a sword, and some would only chuckle in amusement.

"You aren't bad," he commented. But then again, no one, not even himself, could truly be 'good' in his eyes.

Small Animals [Saitou and Banri]

Watanuki sweat-dropped as he watched the swordsmen put him down. What could be do? Should he run? Should he hide? Should he- 

Engulfed by the white smoke once again, Watanuki reverted to his original form. His human form. He drew in a sharp breath and turned to look up at the older male. “Uh….” Watanuki didn’t know what to say. What else could he say in this situation? “D- Don’t look down on me just because I was in that form!” Watanuki blurted out out of nowhere and bit the bottom of his lip. It was a habit for him to just say that. It was a complex after all. 

“S-Sorry…” Watanuki muttered his apologies and bowed. He scratched the back of his head and frowned with a slight blush across his cheeks. He was absolutely embarrassed about his first form being discovered first and that it was found out that he could turn into a human as well. 

“Er…. Watanuki Banri… My name… My name is Watanuki Banri…” Watanuki muttered, his blush darkening even more.

Saitou could only stare in shock as white smoke filled the area, finally revealing a boy in place of the little raccoon earlier. At first, Saitou couldn't wrap his mind around it. After all, this sort of thing rarely happened; at first, he was a small raccoon dog, and now he was... human. Without a trace of his animal characteristics. Saitou didn't know what to do... at the very least, the boy didn't seem like he wanted to harm him. Then, as the boy spoke, Saitou finally got his words back. "I... Watanuki-san, was it?" Saitou asked, blinking slowly. "There's... no need to apologize." Saitou said. What could someone say in a situation like this? 'Oh, it's okay, you can't help but turn into a tanuki.' No normal person was able to do that, and Saitou doubted it was very polite n the first place.

"How, may I ask, are you able to turn into a... Tanuki?" Saitou finally said, after a moment's pause to pick the best sentence he could say in this sort of situation.

Way of the Sword | Saitou and Nanami

“I’m Nanami Haruka. It’s a pleasure to meet you!”

Nanami bowed in greeting to the man who had introduced himself as Saitou Hajime, glad that their awkward first encounter was finally beginning to right itself. Pushing back a sigh that depicted her relief back, the young woman straighter herself back upright and dared to take a step closer to her new acquaintance.

“I apologize. It wasn’t my intention to startle you.”

Her eyelids fluttered down as her gaze once more dropped to the ground, suddenly feeling regretful at her disrespectful actions. Perhaps he was someone who disliked having an audience? It wouldn’t surprise her after witnessing his reaction to one first hand (even though it was only a one person audience). She raked her brain for something else to say, not wanting to let her ramblings get the better of her like she knew they could.

“Do you perhaps train at a dojo, Saitou-san? You really are phenomenal at wielding a sword, albeit a wooden one. You make it seem so effortless, though I know you must be strictly disciplined to be able to maneuver as effortlessly as you led me to believe.”

Nanami spared him an almost shy smile, folding her hands in front of her as she tried not to make their conversation too terribly boring. After all, she wasn’t much of a conversationalist to begin with. She much preferred to keep to a music room and play the piano, or compose a new melody that she hoped someone would sing one day.

"Do not worry about it." Saitou said, assuring the girl that he was fine. He felt a little bad for making the girl feel embarrassed for her actions. In truth, Saitou was just being a little bit shy, though he never really revealed his own emotions. After all, he had never seen a girl take an interested in the art of kenjutsu, rather than... well, himself, as narcissistic as it sounded.  "I don't usually have an audience, is all."

He waited for the girl to reply. She seemed like a quiet girl, easily flustered. He'd met girls like that before, but he never really interacted with them; mostly because they were both quiet and couldn't speak to each other without either being really cold, or getting very embarrassed. As Nanami asked him about if he trained in a dojo, Saitou brightened up. It was only a slight visible change, but compared to the cold look he gave Nanam before, it was a much happier change.

"Yes, I did train in a dojo. My family's, to be precise. However, since I was left-handed, I was forced to stop my training when I couldn't get used to using my right hand. I had learned the basics and managed to alter the style to fit my left-handedness." Saitou explained. He wasn't trying to brag or anything; no, Saitou was a humble person. But sometimes, he got so carried away with his own style that he forgot that he might have sounded a little arrogant.

A bartender? There’s no way. His looks didn’t match with a bar. The very thought of a bar at all made her feel too young. She’s always wanted to go in one, but knew she’d be turned away immediately. A dojo’s a good idea… If she could, she would aided him in it’s creation.

As soon as Saitou was done saying ‘Aisaka’, she wasted no time in drawing her katana and slashing it upwards towards his neck. She used hefty force for such a small girl, and the swing was still powerful. Naturally, as Taiga had expected, Saitou was able to block her under attack. Their wood knocked against each others’. Saitou had then push his sword to push her away from him. 

Just as quickly as she was pushed, did she return back to him to deliver a strike to his lower left leg to impair him. Let’s see how good you really are.

Saitou's instincts had already warned him of the incoming threat. He shifted his leg by twisting on his other foot, moving it out of harm's way. Finally, it was time to show off the style he was famous for; Iaido. Quickly, Saitou got into a stance and drew his sword in a quick draw; the wooden edge of his katana knocking against Taiga's with enough force to knock it out of her hands. Without any pause, he shifted the blade so he pointed the tip at Taiga's neck.

"I suppose this is my win." Saitou said. He drew the sword back. "Shall we have another bout?"

Saitou was very pleased to finally practice kenjutsu once more. His movements were fluid, almost as though he was born to wield a sword, despite his left-handedness. Most of all,he was glad that his movements hadn't gotten rusty.

With every second that ticked by Reborn’s shift was coming closer to the end. Just a half an hour to go. It had been quite a long day, the customers more than needy and hard to please. That was also one of the reasons why Reborn preferred the night shifts - they were more relaxed, people were less in a hurry and there were less orders given at the same time.

But throwing a newbie right into the day shift was also not a good decision, so he would just bare it for the time being, as long as the new bartender gets used to the things here, gets the hang of it, as they say. And it wasn’t that hard either.

Reborn sighed and looked at the clock - twenty more minutes, huh? But just then the bar door opened and a young man stepped inside, offering a greeting. He smiles a little and then says back, “Don’t worry, if you’re thew new bartender, then you’re on time. There’s the back room where you can change.” he nods to the door in the corner.

Saitou nodded to the man at the counter, giving him a polite bow before heading to the door which he had pointed to. The man at the bar seemed to be a relatively nice person to be around. He couldn't make any clear judgements, since he'd just met the person, but he didn't give off a particularly bad vibe.

Going into the back room, he found some clothes on a hanger, similar to the one the man at the bar wore. Assuming this was his new uniform, Saitou changed into it, making sure everything was properly adjusted before placing his own clothes on a hanger and exiting the room. He joined the man behind the counter, unsure of where to begin. 

"Is there anything I can do right now?" he asked, looking around. There wasn't really a big crowd in the bar, but it was crowded enough for one person to handle all the work. he didn't see any sign of other employees, so either the man was working alone right now, or the others were off doing something else.

  She was still stunned at his reply. 23? He’s old… Taiga guessed he could be older than what she thought. “16.” She managed to answer him at last. She thought it was kind of funny to be 7 years apart and still sharing an activity such as katana wielding.

The two were finally nearing the park. “Do you have a job Saitou?” She looked up to the man. Though she let her eyes examine him before she spoke. He seemed eager or anxious to use his sword. She almost wished she could take the question back so he could get right into practice.

16. Well, she was certainly older than what he'd pegged her as; not by much, but still. At least he wasn't talking to someone who was 7 or 8; now that would be awkward. Taiga seemed surprised though, and Saitou was a little taken aback. Was it that hard to guess? Well, he supposed so, as he'd been described as mature before.

"Yes, I do have a job. I'm currently working as a bartender, though it is my dream to someday open a dojo." Saitou replied as they neared the park. When they'd finally reached there, Saitou looked around for a nice spot. There were many good places; wide grassy areas that ensured he wouldn't hit anyone. Picking the one with the least people, he took a stance on one end of the field, gripping the sword on his hip.

"When you are ready, Aisaka-san." he said, motioning for her to commence the attack first.

Watanuki was at a loss of what to do. He was in his demon form, grudgingly, and stuck on a tree. Sighing, he leaped off the tree branch, soundlessly landing on the soft grass of the park. He hated his demon form. A little racoon dog. It was the epitome of all pathetic creatures. Not that he really had a use of being in the form of anything else, really, but a delinquent such as himself should not be in the form of something as pathetic as this. 

He panned the area, sniffing to see if there were any other beings around here and tilted his head when he spotted a male who was apparently just about to practice with his sword. “Huh…” Watanuki tilted his head and decided to watch for a while. It wasn’t every day he got to see someone practicing with a sword. Not only that, but this person seemed slightly odd. The way he dressed, it was as if he came from the Shinsengumi era. He didn’t know too much about it, but he remembered studying it at some point… History wasn’t his favorite subject, but it was something that came in handy once in a while here and there. 

Lost in his thoughts, Watanuki hadn’t realised the man walking over to him and by the time he realised, he was already being picked up. Watanuki stiffened noticeably but decided to play dumb. It was embarrassing enough to be caught off guard, but to be picked up and manhandled like some kind of house pet was just awful. Watanuki made a mewling noise and tilted his head, staring at the male in question, trying very hard to keep his expression straight.

Saitou stared at the little raccoon dog for a little bit, trying to decide what to do with it. Sure, he could take him home, as he was currently living by himself and didn't have a roommate. He felt a little sorry for the raccoon dog, but he still wondered where it came from. Maybe it was someone's pet; yes, that had to be the reason it was here. After all, there were no wild raccoon dogs around here.

The little tanuki made a small mewling noise, tilting its head at him. Saitou had to admit; he liked animals. Well, more like he was okay with them. he wouldn't go out of his way to pet a cat, but if approached by one, he wouldn't run away or ignore it. Or in this case, he wouldn't ignore an animal that looked so confused and at a loss. Placing the raccoon dog back down, he gently pat it, rubbing it behind the ear. The leaf didn't fall off, much to his surprise.

"What are you doing here?" Saitou asked, mostly to himself. After all, tanuki couldn't talk, right? He looked around. No one was in sight; there was only him and the little raccoon dog in the area. Who could have lft it here? Was it abandoned? Saitou stared at the animal a little longer, contemplating on what he should do.

“You got it. I’m a new resident as well.”

At the sight of his smile and poking innocent fun at the whole “analytical” thing, IA couldn’t help but sigh slightly in relief and good spirits. Maybe making friends and socializing from time to time wasn’t something so bad. It was still a strange feeling, but it brought an indescribable joy to the girl.  Most conversations would have been dropped in a matter of minutes, but with Hajime-san, she felt as if she could be a little more open than usual. From only a few moments he had shown to understand her and her quirks. Others would have simply shunned her for being “strange”.

With all these nice feeling rolling on by, new ideas even popped into the intellectual’s head. She once overheard from a group of girls at school that meals were always tastier with someone at your side. Personally, the silverette had no quarrels with eating alone, but the opportunity came knocking in such a manner where she was besides herself in eagerness to ask. It was probably incredibly odd to ask such a request this early in a conversation, but logic be damned. Curiosity led the way this time.

“Hajime-san, have you by chance had anything to eat anything this afternoon? If not, to..well.. make up for my ‘staring perceptions’, would you care to join me at a nearby Japanese restaurant? It would be an honor to treat you.”

Finally, the awkward tension had lifted, and IA seemed to be a little more comfortable. Saitou was glad; he didn't know how much more awkwardness he could have taken. Also, it turned out that conversation with IA was very interesting; the girl had an interesting habit of observing people, and her guesses were very accurate. Saitou found this conversation to be quite enjoyable, much to his own surprise. He'd mostly been uncomfortable around women, after all. This city seemed to be changing him, however; perhaps it was the atmosphere, or maybe the general friendliness of the city's residents. Saitou still felt more comfortable here than he did before he moved.

When IA invited him to eat with her, he at first questioned the use of his first name so casually. He didn't particularly mind; he wasn't used to being called that name by strangers, is all. The question about restaurants made him realize that he hadn't eaten lunch, and that his stomach was feeling rather empty.

"Yes, I would like to join you for lunch, IA-san. However, I will pay for the meal; it is the man's duty to treat the lady, after all." Saitou said, giving IA a small smile. He recalled seeing a Japanese restaurant just a short distance away; perhaps IA was meaning to go there. He waited for IA to stand and gather belongings before heading over there with her.

Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover [Saitou and Sophie]

Once more, Saitou's training had been disrupted. This time, by a girl standing by a tree, staring intently at something below it. Meiro park was large, and one could argue that he could just ignored her. And he had; for a good hour. What he couldn't ignore, however, was the fact that she had been standing in the same position, staring at the same thing, for that entire hour. It was almost as if she was in a trance; Saitou wondered what could have been so interesting that it managed to entertain her for this long.

Saitou knew he shouldn't interfere in other people's business. It was rude, and people might not want that. But the girl had been standing at that tree for too long to ignore. Sighing, he picked up his wooden katana and walked over to the girl.

"Excuse me," he said, approaching her. He didn't get a reply. Strange, but that was fine. He'd just try again.

"Excuse me," he said a little louder. Again, no response. Bending down, he placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Excuse-" Saitou's instincts flared and he leaned back, eyes widening as a closed fist punched the air where his face had been before. Had he really startled the girl so badly? She didn't even seem like the type to fight.

"I... I apologize for startling you." he said, still a little shocked.

Small Animals [Saitou and Banri]

The streets of Meiro were not as crowded as it usually was when Saitou made his daily trip to the park. He didn't know why; perhaps it was because it was a weekend? That was the only thing Saitou could think of  for the city's strange quietness. It was actually sort of peaceful, without the usual bustling crowds. He made his way to the park a little faster than he usually did.

Saitou gripped the sword on his hip, about to pull it out to begin his training regime. Training his skills was something he looked forward to do everyday, and he tried to practice for at least an hour. To Saitou, the way of the sword was a part of his life, and any day without training didn't feel complete. He supposed that it was an obsession, but it was the way he had been brought up. As he walked to his usual training grounds, however, he happened to spot a small animal in his path.

It was a tiny raccoon dog with a leaf on its head. Why, he didn't quite know; perhaps it had just fallen on top of it. The animal looked a quite... irritated. Which was strange, as he was sure that animals didn't usually express this much emotion. He was also sure that raccoon dogs weren't found around here unless someone owned one as a pet. The tanuki seemed to be a little confused as well. Saitou wasn't really an animal lover, but he did feel like helping the little creature out. He walked in front of it, bent down and lifted it up.

"Now, why are you here?" he murmured, studying it.

Co-workers [Saitou and Reborn]

Saitou walked along the pavement, his sharp eyes on the lookout for the bar where he worked. It had only been a few days since he arrived in Meiro, but this route was becoming more familiar to him. He recognized the various shop signs, which at first were so foreign to him. he sky grew darker as he walked, the sun slowly disappearing over the horizon at a lethargic pace. Saitou quickened his footsteps, not wanting to be late for his shift. Finally, he stopped in front of his destination.

The little bell at the door rung as Saitou stepped inside. "Good evening," he greeted. "I hope I am not late."

“Mm.” Taiga nodded at the boy. Getting out of the elevator and taking a route she knew, she led him to the park. 

Taiga had glanced over to Saitou a few times, becoming increasingly curious about him. He held his katana with such a formality, stuck to his hip, while she was toting it around over her shoulder, occasionally swinging it around in boredom.

She finally decided to speak up. “S-so how old are you?” She asked. He looked about 18 or 19, though she couldn’t be sure. She suddenly thought about how old she looked to him. I swear, if he says I look like a middle schooler, I’m gonna take this katana to his face. She was getting herself worked up for nothing.

The trip to the park was filled with silent anticipation, for Saitou at least. He couldn't wait to get back into his training again, no matter how childish that may have sounded. The grip on the sword on his hip was tight, and he had the urge to just swing. Saitou looked down at the girl as she asked a question about his age. That was strange; was it not obvious?

"I am 23 years old." Saitou replied. He looked down at the girl; she was certainly rather short. But, he supposed that middle school students couldn't get a job. He decided not to comment on her appearance, for fear of offending her.

"What is your age?" Saitou asked the girl.
