Way too often, someone will hear LWJ say: “I can’t stay, I have to go home to feed Wei Ying.”

“I won’t join you for drinks. Wei Ying gets sad if I stay out for too long. Hmm? Mn, he does get really excited when he hears me at the door. Yes, it’s always nice to have Wei Ying welcome me home.”

“Me? I didn’t do much this weekend. It was nice and sunny on Sunday, so I took Wei Ying out for a walk. He does like going to the park a lot.”

[while on the phone with a colleague] “Wei Ying, sweetheart, please get off my lap. I need to grab a file from the study.” (This is followed by the colleague mouthing to other colleagues, “He calls his dog sweetheart, this is too cute.”)

[when he’s staying at work late, and a colleague makes a comment about him not having to go home to feed Wei Ying] “Wei Ying is being punished for getting mud all over our couch.”

[the one time LWJ had one sip of alcohol for a business dinner and wouldn’t shut up about how much he loves Wei Ying] “Yes, he is a pretty boy! Wei Ying is the prettiest boy!” He tears up a little. “I love Wei Ying so much!!!!” It’s LXC who picks him up that night, probably because WWX is out of town, and LWJ is possibly moping a little, which is why he agreed to have even a little bit of alcohol.

LWJ isn’t doing this on purpose, and he probably wouldn’t even realise until he’s at the function with WWX on his arm, introducing him as “Wei Wuxian, my fiancé”, and all his colleagues are gaping at him going, “How come we never knew you were engaged? Wait, hold up a second - we didn’t even know you were dating someone.”

LWJ will just blink at them, and say, “I talk about Wei Ying all the time.” And someone will blurt out, “But Wei Ying is your pet???????”

WWX thinks it’s hilarious. “Well, Lan Zhan is a very responsible owner and takes very good care of me, so I guess you’re not wrong?”

When they adopt A-Yuan, LWJ starts doing it again, this time deliberately. Every time someone thinks “no, that’s got to be a child, like. a proper human child, for sure”, LWJ will spice it up by mentioning chew toys. WWX still thinks it’s hilarious.
