Haven Visits
Leila hummed happily and titled her head back to enjoy the sunshine. It was bright and warm out and she was so ridiculously happy about it. She had her long red hair pulled up into a high ponytail for once and was wearing a ridiculous black and white polka dot romper that made her feel happy and childish and giddy. She gave a little twirl and looked around to see if Killien was going to pop up and hummed in satisfaction when she didn’t spot him right away. She groaned lightly as she stretched her arms above her head. She’d been taking more on campus, long distance, video classes on campus this semester and she quite enjoyed them. “Suuunshine! Suunshine! I looove the suuunshiiiineee!” She sang happily throwing her arms out as if to give the sun a hug, her head tilted back to face the light, her eyes closed and a bright grin on her face.
Haven sighed lightly, wondering where the hell on this big ass campus his baby sister was at. He climbed out of his faded orange VW Van and leaned against it, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. “Knew I should have texted her. Surprise be damned.” He muttered, scowling and glaring through his sunglasses at everyone that passed and gave him and his van a snotty look. He knew his van looked rough but he didn’t think he looked bad in his tank and ripped skinny jeans. He grumbled lowly and pulled out his phone, debating on ruining the surprise of his visit and texting his sister to find out where she was.

“Saaaaaammmmmy!!” “Whhhy are you so loud and obnoxious.” “You love it and you know it.” “Matt’s not here, what do you want.” “That hurts, Sammy, like I only come here to see your stupid faced brother.” “……What do you want, Lei.” “I’m boooorrreeed.” “Yeah, well, I’m not the blonde to entertain you.” “So mean.” “You’ll get over it.”

mechanicalmatty:
“Eh, hopefully there’s enough good people around to take care of you. I don’t like to believe the world is inherently evil.” Which was the truth. If people like him existed, then they’d be okay, right? Matt didn’t think he was a bad person. Surely he wasn’t the only one? “Maybe you should invest in a good nap, though, just to be safe.” He smiled at her.
“I like to think people are more good than bad too but if you watch the news that’s not exactly the impression you get.” Most of the people she knew personally were kind and would help someone out, though some of them did hide it behind a tougher, sarcastic exterior. She counted herself lucky that she hadn’t met anyone awful in her life. “I probably should. Might get myself some hot chocolate, soak up some more of this relaxing ambiance and then go home and curl up with my dog and go to sleep for a little bit.”

“What can you do? It’s not a big deal.” Eli agreed with her with a shrug. There was no sense stopping how you operated. After all it was what made you, you. He watched the girl as she continued about herself. She was interesting. Eli could tell she was smart. She had more brains than him in that young small body than he ever did. Or so he thought. “I understand. Sometimes it’s just so easy to get caught up.” He shrugged lightly and waved a hand. “Do you have anyone bringing you food and stuff now? Or…?” She needed self care. Although he was a little older, Eli didn’t mind helping her out. “I never had the brain for that kind of stuff. I’m more outdoorsy. I can point you in the right direction from the middle of nowhere and help you survive off the land if you’re ever stranded, though?” Eli laughed at himself a shook his head, taking the spare plate now brought to him and nibbling at his side of the burger. “You’re welcome. I like to help.”
“Maybe I should just make myself a little robot butler to remind me to take breaks.” She laughed lightly at the thought of an itty bitty robot poking and prodding her until she stopped what she was doing to pay attention to it. She nodded lightly, she felt like she was talking about herself too much. “It really can be.” She hummed softly before shaking her head in the negative. “No, I live alone with my dog Sampson and as ridiculously smart as he is, he can’t exactly make me food and bring it too me and while I’ll remember to feed and walk him, i don’t always remember to make food for myself when i do.” She laughed lightly. She grinned brightly, “I don’t look it but I am a country girl. I grew up on a farm till I was 12 and my brother and I used to spend weekends in the woods on our own fishing and settin traps for our dinner.” She sighed lightly and set her chin in her hands as she thought about it. “It’s been a long while since I went camping though. I miss it actually.” She smiled lightly at him.
kaytlinnuostein:
“I mean, yeah,” Kayt shrugged, “but when it rains you’re pretty fucked. But, I guess you’re fucked anyways if you walk everywhere. At least you could be fucked for less time.” Kayt never really been a fan of mopeds. She figured if you were getting a two-wheeled anything, it should’ve been a motorcycle. But this girl definitely didn’t look like a the motorcycle type. “I’ll keep my eye out for a moped and let you know what I find.”
Leila laughed lightly. “Oh yeah, I either walk or ride my bike so I’m used to getting soaked, I’m actually trying to find or create a way to attach my umbrella to my bike. Mostly cuz I don’t want to have to wear a bunch of rain gear everywhere.” She bit her lip to cut herself short so she wouldn’t ramble on and on. “That would be awesome, thank you!” She scrambled through her bag to find a pen and a scrap of paper, feeling around her textbooks as she did so. “Here’s my number, in case you find anything!”
kaytlinnuostein:
Kayt continued to eat her lunch, only looking up for a second to make sure that Fluke was still laying under the bench she was sitting on, and hadn’t gotten all growl-y yet. “No problem,” she shrugged, taking another bite of her food and raising a brow at the assault technique. “Effective, I guess. Assault charges, though.” For half a second Kayt wished she’d continued schooling. Shed gotten her degree in music theory, but that was fun. Briefly she considered going back and getting a degree in mechanics. Her thoughts were canceled by the red head screaming. Kayt tensed as she looked up, brow raised. “…. Well. I’m glad you can relax.”
Leila glanced at the dog laying under the bench and thought of her own massive dog who was actually at the groomer’s and wondered if her dog and the blonde’s dog would get along. She tilted her head in thought at the blonde’s words and nodded slowly, “Yeah ... Yeah I don’t think my dad would be pleased if I called him to be my attorney cuz I got assault charges against me.” She gave a sheepish little smile and shrugged lightly before giving a happy little sigh. “Well, until my next project or my shift starts.”
noellelff:
Noelle smiled and brought the one she was working on over to the other red head, before turning to make herself another one, “I hope you enjoy it. they’re my specialty! What are you studying about? Seems a bit too smart for me,” she laughed, smiling softly, before bringing her new sundae to the table, and sitting across from her hair twin.
Leila looked at the masterpiece in front of her and felt her mouth water a little bit, it looked so good. She waited until the other red head had one and had brought it over, a small smile coming to her face at the other’s words. “Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, things like that.” She shrugged lightly and shoved her text book to the side. “It can be quite complex, you have to really love it if you’re going to try and study for it. Some days I wonder if I should be studying something else, but I just ... I love AI’s too much. I want ...” She trailed off and bit her lip knowing she was about to start rambling.
noellelff:
Noelle let out a relieved sigh when the girl said she was fine, “Oh, thank heavens… I was really worried you’d be mad at me. I don’t respond well to yelling,” she chuckled, twirling a piece of her fallen hair around her forefinger. She glanced over the books the girl was reading, and decided not to comment, in fear of feeling too stupid. “The ground can be pretty comfortable, huh? Children sit there all the time for a reason, I swear it.”
Leila tilted her head, her red curls cascading over her shoulder as she frowned in confusion. “Why would I be mad at you? I’m the one all up in the way.” She chuckled lightly and gave the other red head a smile. She started to tuck some of her things out of the way so people would have more room to walk. “Surprisingly so.” She chuckled, “I always thought kids were weird for liking to sit on the ground but I think they have the right idea!”
elightthenight:
“Ah, yeah…you get busy and you forget about basics needs. I’ve been there before I can’t really judge,” Eli said with a shrug, “that said…always practice self care. You can’t offer your best work if you’re not taking care of yourself in the process.” Eli shook his head, unsure of if he should have given advice when she didn’t seem to be asking for it necessarily. He raised his eyebrows and let out a slow exhaled whistle. “M.I.T. huh? You got quite the brain up there. That’s great! I’m sure it keeps a lot of doors open for you, as well as a forecasted bright future. Are you excited?” He couldn’t imagine the kind of pressure she was under, though. He could have never done that sort of that. “You’re welcome. Like I said, I’m not al that hungry right now anyway!”
“My friends and my brother get so aggravated with me for it, but I can’t help it!” She laughed lightly and brushed her hair out of her face. At his next words she felt her face flush a bit and nodded, making a small face. She knew he was right, it was just hard for her to remember things like eating or sleeping .... or washing her hair, when she was immersed in a project. “I do know that ... My brain just gets so filled with codes and numbers and blueprint plans that I just .... forget. My ex and my best friend used to bring me food and stuff when I got too into something.” She couldn’t help but grin at his whistle and laughed lightly. “So, I’ve been told. I just really like technology and codes and stuff.” She chuckled lightly. Her face stayed flushed as she nibbled at some more of his fries. “Still, it’s very kind of you.”

Lu rolled their eyes at the girl and shook their head. “Yeah, of course that’s your motto. Romance is still romance, mocking or not.” and they weren’t about to get mushy about something that shouldn’t even matter. They didn’t even know her, anyway, so honestly, what gain was there? “Hm. Well…then…maybe you just got a good dog then or some shit. I don’t know how it all works, I’ve never had a dog.” Not one that was theirs, really. There were family dogs in the foster homes he’d been in but nothing like having their own dog. Lu smirked. “Mmm…so you need some validation that your hair is long and beautiful, huh? Recognition?” They had a plan in which they were going to head that conversation towards. Regardless, it would be fun. “Oh, okay, cool, so I’ll uh…go throw it in the street and hope some car runs over it then?” they teased the girl. They didn’t even know her name yet. They thought that was probably for the best, anyway, at this rate. People never stuck around long enough. Not even their own mother.
She laughed a bit and shrugged, to each there own and she wasn’t going to argue about romance with anyone. She’d always had good experience with romance, sure it had hurt like hell when she and her ex had broken up but they were still in contact and were still good friends. She glanced at Sampson who, with that one look, came to her side and gently bumped into her. “He was a bait dog, it wasn’t easy at first but he’s become such a good boy.” She cooed the last couple of words down at her dog, whose tail wagged happily as he bumped into her side once more.
She tilted her head, causing her long hair to fall over her shoulder. “No? I mean, I know my hair’s awesome whether other people acknowledge it or not.” She’d never thought she’d needed validation or recognition about her looks before. She gave them a flatly amused look. “Oh ha ha, good luck with that.” She shook her head lightly before holding out her hand, almost imperiously though it was jokingly. “I’m Leila, by the way, Leila Hudson. Ought to know each other’s names if we’re going to be plastic ring hitched.” She chuckled lightly.
