âYouâve thought about this, havenât you?â Noelle to Lucas
.
dialogue promptsÂ
@kaytlinnuostein / @noellelff Lucas looked over to the the redhead beside him with a half-smile.  âIt has to be a prank, thereâs too much evidence lying around for there to be something supernatural about this.â  To him it looked like whoever it was almost wanted to get caught. Â
He fidgeted in his seat trying to get more comfortable. Lucas knew it hadnât been a smart idea to let Noelle come with him, however he had a feeling even if he hadnât she might have shown âconincidentallyâ showed up anyway.  âLook, if thereâs any chance of danger, real danger, then Iâll try and distract them while you run back to the car and go okay?â He wasnât certain if she could fight but he knew she was fast.  Lucas held out the car keys for her to take, âthis way if we split up you know I havenât left you behind either.â Noelle hesitated before taking them from him with a small smile, âthanks.â Â
âThereâs a chance nothing happens and we spent the night out for nothing, but at least the weatherâs nice,â he added with a light bump.
"You could have died," (Lucas to Noelle)
âI mean, I could have... but, I didnât...â Noey shrugged gently, smiling and trying not to wince as the EMT bandaged her forearm. The red head sat on the ledge of the ambulence, eyes glancing back to the wreckage, âI didnât, and theyâre okay. It- I donât think it was human. Thatâs what you want to know, right? Youâre a j-journalist, arenât you?â She murmured, nodding a thanks to the EMT as they moved to someone else, âI- I- ... I-it couldnâtâve been...âÂ
âhey papa.. have you ever felt like you ... matched someone well? like... milk & cookies?â

âThey are actually the worst.â He informed her as he finished off his ice cream cone. He raised an eyebrow when she moved to sit across from him, he wasnât used to people being so quick to associate with him. He scowled a bit at her question and snorted faintly. âI take care of my teeth just fine, thank you. Brushing flossing and not eating crap thatâs not good for me.â He smirked faintly with a soft chuckle.
âAre they? I would think âthe worstâ would be like, I donât know, not celebrating christmas or something.â Noelle shrugged, definitely not noticing his shock at her sitting by him. âWell then maybe youâre just prone to cavities, I donât know,â she giggled, shrugging as she ate the cherry off the top of her sundae, before popping the stem into her mouth to tie a not out of it, a trick she loved doing. âIâm still wondering how Iâve never gotten a cavity, honestly, then,â she continued on, smile on her lips.

Idaliaâs face lit up a bit when the sundae was set in front of her, it looked delicious. âTh-Thank you very m-much!â She beamed as she took a bite of it. âItâs delicious!â She felt her face flush a little bit and, with a shaky breath, she slid her sketch book over a little bit to show the redhead the piece sheâd been working on. It was the other girl in the middle of making her sundae, a look of happy concentration on her face. âYou c-can do w-wood-w-working? Thatâs r-really cool!â
âYouâre welcome, sweet one!â She smiled, joining the girl in the eating of ice cream. âyouâre brilliant, truly.â Noelle grinned, looking impressed at the work. The brunette seemed so young, to be so, so good at art like this. âI can! Iâm not that great at it, but Iâm getting there. My dad owns the toy shop, and he makes wooden toys.. like the classic old ones. Iâve been learning from him since I turned fifteen, so only a couple years. Itâs an art he wanted to wait till I was older to learn. But, man. This! This is cool!â She shook her head in disbelief. âIâm Noelle, by the way.â

Lu glared at Meredith as they settled beside her. They stepped further away and snapped, âIâm not your daughter.â She couldnât figure out what else to call them? They werenât a girl therefore they couldnât be a daughter. âIâm your other foster kid. Not daughter, dammit.â Mereditch sighed and shook her head, trying to assure them they were just trying to be friendly but Lu was already rolling their eyes. They looked at the cheery girl and scrunched their nose. Why was she so damnâŚweird? Already?Â
âOoookay,â the sighed, shaking their head. âNoelle Christabel? Are you from the North Pole? With a name like that it sounds like it.â Lu ignored Meredithâs tap to their shoulder to âbe kinder and use kind wordsâ. âIâm 17. I like long romantic walks on the beach, a good fuck, and heroin.âÂ
âLucinda that is enough,â Dale said, his tone serious due to Luâs immaturity.Â
âLu,â they corrected with a smirk. âI also enjoy video games, music, chocolate or sour candies, running, and tattoos. But Iâm not 18âŚyet.â Meredith and Dale werenât huge fans of their plan on that but they werenât their parents to make that decision.Â
âOkay well Lu why donât you take Noelle upstairs and show her where sheâll be staying. Iâll catch up down here and weâll go from there until dinner?â Mereditch smiled.Â
Lu rolled their eyes. Meredith sure had patience. Lu had only seen her lose it once. Maybe they could push her that far again. âYeah, sure, whatever. Light of the world that is given for us, get your ass upstairs with me,â Lu snapped as they climbed the stairs to their bedroom, not waiting to see if she would follow. Pictures lined the hallway and Lu hadnât bothered to pay attention to them, ever. This place wasnât home.Â
Noelleâs brows furrowed as âLuâ corrected the foster mother to say kid instead of âdaughterâ. She wondered why the distinction would be necessary, but it reminded her of another kid sheâd been in the system with who had hated being called a boy or anything with masculinity attached to it. They had preferred she or them, so maybe her new foster .... sibling had been like that, too. Her thoughts were ceased by their questioning her name, and she grinned, âI think so- honestly, I donât remember.â she shrugged uncomfortable, but blushed and grinned when they introduced themselves.
Daleâs words and tone cause Noelle to flinch. She hated stern-ness in all forms. It always had caused her anxiety to go through the roof, and she thought it had to be from the mean people who ran some of her foster homes and group homes. âI like chocolate,â she murmured, plucking at the hem of her shirt as she smiled softly at her foster sibling, but anxiety once again filled her when Meredith all but ordered Lu to show her upstairs.
âO-oh,â she gave her social worker a hug and pulled her bag onto her shoulder, âIâm not leaving yet, Noelle. Iâll bring your other two bags in, okay?â She nodded at the only woman sheâd known consistently for years, before turning to scurry after Lu, hoping not to fall behind.Â
The pictures ont he walls of the stair case distracted her as she stumbled up the stairs, hoping to keep up with Lu as her heavy bag weighed her down. Noelle was definitely not that strong of a person. When reaching their new room, she gazed around, excited to share a room with a sibling. her heart burst with the hopes of getting close to someone.Â
âSo... um... itâs nice in here. I like it.â She nodded. She moved to the bed that was made, sitting down on it and pulling her bag up to dig through it. âMy um, my Helena.. my social worker, she um, she told me Iâd have a sibling here, so I um, I made you this?â she said, pulling a sock snowman out of her bag, âI hope you like it, Lu,â

Lu laid on their bed on their back, hands behind their head, gazing at the ceiling where their glow in the dark stars faintly showed up. Their foster parents were trying to get another one today. Personally, Lu liked this. That meant they could exit without too much heartache on the parents fault. Theyâd have someone else to put their energy towards and Lu could destroy their house somehow and get sent back to the home. They didnât understand why they constantly tried to place them somewhere. They didnât even act up when they were at the home because that was where they belonged. Not with some family pretending to love him or want them in their lives.Â
Oh well. Whenever the new one got here, Lu would ruin things tomorrow or sometime this week and get out. They were waiting for more of a reason. These parents were nice and they didnât want to hurt them. At least with someone new theyâd have company still. Glancing over, they saw the halloween candy Meredith had bought them. October was their favorite month of the year and she somehow managed to find that out. Lu had been avoiding eating any of itâŚuntil now. They reached for a snickers in the jack-o-latern tub just as he heard âLuciiiiinda!!! Time to meet our new family member!!âÂ
âItâs Lu!â They snapped back, hearing an apology soon after that she didnât think they would hear such a short syllable. They trudged down the stairs, snickers in hand as a red head stepped through the door. Oh boy. Here we go. âHi, Iâm Lu. Not nice to meet you. Iâm gonna go back to my room now.âÂ
âLu,â Meredith eyed them. âStay down here. Honey can you introduce yourself?â she asked the girl. Â
From just outside the door, she could hear a womanâs voice call out, and she gave a worried glance towards the social worker. Noelle didnât do well with being yelled at. But, she was distracted already with the parents. Noelleâs anxiety continued to peek, nervous to meet her new parents- because thatâs what they always were to her.Â
âHi!â The voice was almost too cheery- and it made Noelle so welcomed feeling. âNoelle, this is Meredith, and Dale.â her social worker explained, pointing to each of them. Noelle nodded gently at them, smiling at the two fosterparents. âAnd, this is our other foster daughter,â Meredith began to introduce, gesturing towards her. When Noelleâs eyes scanned over the other foster kid that came down the stairs. She smiled brightly, excited to know there was another person near her age she could relate to.Â
Her cheeks flushed brightly, not wanting her new sister to hate her because of having to stay down stairs. Not to mention she was always awful at introducing herself. âH-Hi, Lu..â she chewed on her lip, âUm-- my name is Noelle.. Noelle Christabel.. Um, Iâm sixteen. I um- I.. I donât know what to tell you..â
AU ;; Foster kids
Once again, sheâd screwed up. Once again, she was too much. Once again, she loved too hard. Once again, she wanted too much. All she tried to be was a good foster daughter. All she wanted were foster parents who loved her. Maybe even foster siblings who loved her. All of who she could love in return. But, she couldnât even do that right. If the car wasnât making her wrench her eyes shut in fear, the thoughts would have. Noelle hated cars. Every time she got in, all she could do was think of the one that killed her parents but spared her. She could see the explosions and fire. Feel her skin ache with cuts and bruises. Now not only was she remembering all of that, she was remembering how much she screwed up. And, she hated it.Â
She wasnât quite sure if she believed in God, but she was definitely praying to him now that he would make this family love her and be patient with her. Her thoughts were broken by the sudden stopping of the car, and with panicked motions, she wrenched the door open and practically fell out of the car. Deep breaths. A few deep breaths and she was able to glance around and take in her surroundings. The new home was nice, surrounded by trees, but there were still neighbors. It was two story, which made her excited. Silently, she helped her social worker with her bags, and moved towards the front door with her.Â
âDo you think theyâll like me?â she finally asked, like a mouse, scared of the response. The social worker, Cynthia, just smiled and nodded, patting her on the shoulder lightly.

Eli reached out to fix part of her hair but let his hand fall back down. He didnât want to make her uncomfortable and he felt as though it wasnât his place to do such a thing, anyway. âWell, still! You should be more careful so you donât one day hurt yourself more.â Even accidents could reap havoc. He smiled gently when he was able to inspect she indeed, wasnât bleeding, however he still was concerned. Sheâd probably have bruises, nonetheless. âOh! I know what you mean! But who could ever turn down company?? Itâs what we all thrive on.â Eli took a seat back in the booth once he was sure sheâd be able to sit down herself, and began to organize the fliers heâd scooped up. âI canât think of a better way to make someone happy,â Eli grinned before glancing up at her. âSo you work at a toy shop?âÂ
Noelle wondered what heâd planned on doing with his hand, but was quickly distracted by his kind chiding. âI know, I know. Papa tells me that all the time. He tells me all the time Iâm far too clumsy for my own good, and Iâll end up breaking things.â She laughed, âIâve broken toys heâs made a few times. Itâs awful.â She murmured, chewing on her lip. She lit up like Christmas lights at how hospitable he was, smiling brightly. âOkay! Awesome. Iâm glad you think so.â She scooted into the booth, setting her fliers down in a pile and resting her arms on them. âI do! Papa owns it, and I basically grew up in it from the day I arrived. I help him with whatever he needs, and he passes down knowledge on toymaking and such.â

Lu couldnât help but flush at the red headâs compliment. While handsome felt better it still was odd and different to get a compliment. Those werenât something that came to Lu often. Lu looked at her extended pinky with a scrunched nose and went to move their gaze back to the machine to keep her from thinking they were going to do something trivial like pink promise. âUhhâŚyeah..how about just a thanks. I believe you and shit or whatever.â Lu shrugged and tried to refrain from yet another eye roll a she started talking about being an elf. Was she serious? âThe fuck? I think youâre as close to an elf as you can at this point. You work in a toy shop and you love Christmas. Next thing youâre gonna tell me is your name is likeâŚHolly or Noel or something,â they snickered.
They didnât expect her name to actually be Noelle, though. âWhat what the fuck I was right? Holy shit,â they gasped, âJesus your dad is Santa. You are a fucking elf.â They raised their eyebrow when she got awkward and it made them feel awkward back. What had happened? She was fine just a second ago? âSorry for uh..what?â they asked, rubbing the back of their neck and kicking the machine for good measure.âÂ
Noelle nearly pouted when they didnât return her pinky promise. But, she understood that some people probably thought it was strange. âOkay.. well, if you say so, I believe you that you believe me!â Logic dictated that it was probably a bad idea to already feel and want to be close to the stranger. She beamed, however, when they told her she was as close to an elf as she could be. Ever since sheâd come up with the gimmick to be the âchecker of the naughty and nice listâ for children, sheâd loved the idea of being an elf.Â
The shock on their face caused her to giggle. âI like to think he is, but heâs just a toy-maker.â She giggled, child-like smile firm on her face. âSometimes I like to pretend he is Santa, though. I tell the children who come into the shop that Iâm the elf that checks the naughty and nice list. I even have silicone elf ears.â She laughed, scratching the back of her neck sheepishly as she blushed. Until they brought up the awkwardness again. âUh... well, cause I- I mean, you didnât like it, and I- well, I felt bad, so I mean-.. yeah,â
lukewarmxxatbest:
Lu licked their lips and kicked the ground at her question. Handsome felt better, yes. They preferred that over pretty any day. Did they want to tell her that, though? Knowing her already sheâd probably tell them they were handsome all the time. âYeah,â they mumbled, âhandsome is better. No fucking girly words.â They crossed their arms as she went on about Christmas and ended up feeling the boredom on their face. âYouâŚare you a fucking elf or something? Why are you so gung-ho about Christmas? Jesus christ.â They rolled their eyes, a signature expression, and scoffed at her. They were still frozen, though, given her arms around them. âOoooooo-kayâŚâŚ.â they dragged out, âbut why does physical affection need to last this long? Itâs a fucking ring I wouldâve preferred like jumping up and down or some shit.â Lu glanced over at her, a slight grimace on their face still.Â
âOkay, okay, good. Iâm glad I can compliment you some way. Handsome. Itâll look handsome on you!â She grinned chewing on her lip softly as she did. âNo girly words, promise.â She stuck out her pinky, expecting a pinky promise promptly, though she wasnât too sure they would go for it. âAn elf!?â her eyes widened and brightened at, what she perceived was, the compliment. âOh man, no. But I wish! how cool would that be?! I mean, I already work in a toy shop, so I could work in santaâs workshop!â Her eyes were bright, full of excitement at the idea. âBut I mean, I donât know. My dadâs a toy maker, and owns the toy shop down the street. So, Christmas was a big thing for us. And, I mean, my name is Noelle, like, come on.â She giggled. Suddenly, she felt insanely awkward, and her fingers chaining together and wringing themselves together. âI- I mean, Iâm sorry, I- It- sorry, hah,â she chuckled softly, trying to remain positive.
theartistlena:
Idalia paused in her sketching of the womanâs sundae and glanced up, her cheeks turning pink. âUm, I ⌠Th-that would b-be very n-nice of you. Th-thank you.â She glanced down at her sketchbook once more before looking at the woman again. âI h-hope you d-donât mind m-me sk-sketching it. Itâs a m-masterpiece a-afterall.â
Noelle grinned and nodded, quickly whipping up a second one and bringing it to the brunette. âHere ya go, itâs on me.â she smiled, before leaning over to look at the girlâs sketches, âOh! Cool! Iâve always wanted to be able to draw. I can make sundaes and do some light wood-working, but thatâs about it, honestly. That is sooo neat! You can draw stuff of mine anytime.â
leilakerihudson:
Leila blinked a few times, her brain switching from Techie mode to Regular Human mode. âOh no! Youâre fine. This was just the most comfortable place I found outside. I can move I swear.â She looked around herself at all her scattered books and notebooks and book bag. Sheâd chosen to sit on the ground in the town square cuz it was comfortable and gave her a tiny bit of some form of socialization.
Noelle let out a relieved sigh when the girl said she was fine, âOh, thank heavens... I was really worried youâd be mad at me. I donât respond well to yelling,â she chuckled, twirling a piece of her fallen hair around her forefinger. She glanced over the books the girl was reading, and decided not to comment, in fear of feeling too stupid. âThe ground can be pretty comfortable, huh? Children sit there all the time for a reason, I swear it.â
