Cu blinked at her, unsure as to what sort of technique this was for interaction. A new one. Was he supposed to make some sort of comment about how girls like dogs and proceed forward from there? When the hell did flirting become this? “Oi s’pose that makes sense. Was a dog recently, an’ Oi’m a dog more than much else… Other than a person ‘o ‘course. Why? Ye loike dogs?”
The professor’s concentration was interrupted as she started asking about the sword, his mind returning to the issue at hand and his anger boiling up just thinking about it. “’ee moves metal. ‘S easy when ye can do things loike tha’. An’ Oi dunno why. Oi probably pissed ‘im off fer one ting ‘er another. He’s got a short temper, an’ tha’s comin’ from me.” His digging paused as an eyebrow cocked at her, “No shame diggin’ in the mud ta ‘elp someone. But… Oi see what ye mean. Cu Chulainn.” He said, extending a mud-caked hand. Not that it mattered if it was dirty.
She hadn’t stopped her digging as, in fact, Leitis actually quite liked the feel of soil under her fingers and nails, and though she’d sass people about it, that was just her personality rather than any real distaste for mud itself. The back of her hand ran across her forehead, pushing her hair back and smearing a line of mud there that she didn’t seem to care about, “Every’ne likes dogs... or at leas’ everyone worth knowin’.”
Her gaze traveled over him at the mention of metal manipulation, tongue drawing across her lower lip. She wondered then if there was enough in b l o o d for someone with that kind of control to actually manipulate; that also meant someone else would have had to think about it and tried, which seemed highly unlikely, though should she ever know Magneto on a personal level it might seem less so.
“Seems like somethin’ a friend would do, aye?” She purses her lips now; friends were few and far between for her, but somehow the dog-like, surly man digging beneath old leaves and into mud seemed kindred; probably distant shores more than anything, but he seemed to dislike interaction as much as she did. Why on earth did she keep gravitating towards difficult people -- Kurt not withstanding -- and what did that say about her.
“I mean... if y’do fin’ it, can’ he jus’... move it ‘gain?”

the-incredible-nightcrawler:
He could completely understand that mindset though he didn’t actually agree with it. While he would defend himself if he had to he never saw that choice she spoke of. “While some might say your power is morbid I have a different outlook on things. I think all of us have different gifts for different purposes. And human and mutant a like are all on the same journey to discover what that purpose is. What they are here for.” He knew it was naive of him to think that way, but there was good in everyone and it wasn’t up to him to separate the good people from the bad people. He thought of his own mutation and the hardship it had brought him, and also of the good it has done for others. “The answer isn’t always simple or easy, but one day I believe we’ll find it and all of us will be better for it. Your grody blood thingy included.” He smiled, the hope inside of him undimmed even after everything he’d been through and seen.
It was such a simple sentiment, and it hadn’t been presented in order to garner her protection or love, and yet in that moment she felt attached to the idea of Kurt making it even if none of the rest of them did; it had been a long time since she had felt anything remotely close to outwardly protective of anyone, and her body tried to reject that with a sudden scowl, but it was brief.
“That’s... I mean yeah, it’s naive, but I think if more people let their naivety flags fly we’d be a lot better off.” She, on the other hand, was jaded at best; a lifetime of screwing up and leaving carnage in her wake and she honestly felt it was just better to take care of number one.
... though I suppose that now includes him, loath as she is to admit it; he’d sparked something in her, and though she wouldn’t outwardly tell him or make it a big deal, he was precious in his own right to her.
sabretooth-creed:
Victor rolled his eyes and looked at her blankly. “Cute. But don’t you have somewhere else to be about now? Class, or studying for a test or something? Versus wasting my time with sarcasm.”
“If I ha' somewhere else to be do you think I’d be picking a fight with you? That seems a little silly.” She shrugs, moving from her position further away to tug the hood deep across her brow and sidle up to him rather than standing safe distance; she seemed to have not much of a self-preservation bone in her body.
“... You’re bored too, anyway.”
the-incredible-nightcrawler:
Kurt brightened considerably when she produced the Walkman from under a pile of damp leaves. “Ah that must have been why I didn’t see it! It was hiding under the leaves!” He carefully took it and began to clean it with his shirt. “So you do stuff with blood then? That’s your mutation? I don’t think that’s grody. I mean, we all bleed at some time or another right?” He grinned a little as he finished. “There! Let’s see if it works and you’ll find out what’s on it.” He pressed play and through the attached headphones, the beginning notes of Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie began to play. He breathed a sigh of relief. “It works! You were right!”
He seemed so pure that she just watched his joy in these little things and the way he spoke animatedly, taken back to a time before things had gone so very wrong... it took her a moment to register his question at all; not until after she heard the familiar song coursing through his headphones.
“Nice...” And as that song played through, she chose to answer his question, giving another shrug, “I mean it’s still pretty morbi’ in its own right, aye? Besides, you don’t even have to be bleedin’ for me to be able to do somethin’ with it... I can control it in the veins, and even corrupt it against the person --- I mean I don’...” She holds up her hands a moment, somewhat defensively, “Or I try not to, but sometimes it’s you or someone else and you make a choice...”
... and sometimes it’s out of your control and you hurt someone you wouldn’t have laid a finger on prior to that.

jubilxtion-lee:
Jubilation frowned and tilted her head. “Sounds painful. Then this rain must really be a welcome for ya.” She splashed some of the water at her feet, feeling the wet socks stick to her toes. “Not weird at all. Don’t worry about it. As long as the rain makes you happy, you should enjoy it.” Jubilation’s eyes widened and she laughed. “Thank you! Can never have enough colors in my opinion. Well, no, you can, but I’d like to think I’ve found a nice balance of colors.”
While friendly, happy people tended to make Leitis uncomfortable, she was learning to tolerate it in the school because... if we’re honest, all they had was each other. So instead of her usual biting wit, she gives a shrug and offers, “Where I’m from everythin’ is sort of muted...? I mean it’s not all dreary but I’m used t’rain and earth and... y’know, I’m bad with colour, aye?”
Her accent always slipped back in a bit heavier when she spoke of home; she was just glad she hadn’t reverted to her native tongue.
“... I guess that coul’ be another reason I like the rain.” A musing, at least, and she offered Jubilee what counted as a smile on a normal day for Leitis.
cullanshound:
Cu grumbled, digging through with his hands and looking up with fire in his eyes when the girl agreed with him about how disrespectful it was. “Oi’ll be sure ta tell ‘im Oi’m not the only one who thinks tha’.”
He went back to digging, debating if it would be best to just shift to something more capable. Then again, he didn’t know how to be a mole and he didn’t want to risk his paws against the sharpness of the blade, on the off-chance ‘Maggy’ handn’t buried it with the scabbard. As the thought crossed through his mind, the girl asked a question that caused him to freeze in digging to look up at her. “Oi smell like wha’?” He double-checked himself. He hadn’t shifted. “Oi shouldn’. Not roight now, at least.”
“It’s not just the one smell, aye? But for some reason that one stands out the most... maybe it’s my own perception.” She scrunches her nose, continuing to dig through dirt, having long since left behind the quiet dignity of wet leaves. There was earth under her fingernails she’d likely need an excavator to dig out... but she was outdoors and the sun wasn’t trying to murder her, so you make do with what’s given to you.
After digging a few more inches, she blinks and looks up at him, scrunching her face, “... curiously who the fuck would bury your sword anyway? ... and why did they have access to your sword? And furthermore, why is it so important? And also, following that up, I don’t really care but it seems polite to ask this shit instead of just digging into mud with someone I don’t know.”
telepxth-grey:
Jean raised an eyebrow at the brunette, slightly surprised as she shot an arrow rather quickly. Her eyebrow raised more at the mention of her heartbeat. “Yeah, I’m fine.” The redhead picked up her bow, notching another arrow as she avoided looking back to the brunette as she tried to slow her heartbeat. “Nightmares have me stressed.”
“Nightmares, aye?” Leitis tilts her head and shrugs; she wasn’t much for getting in people’s business without reason, but she’d made the choice to come to this school so it seemed as good a decision as any to try and make some kind of connections with some of the students, if nothing else.
A pause to let Jean deal with her own shot, and she could somewhat tell that the pulse was changing -- a good trick to learn, really, to be able to calm your heart... it made lying easier, for one thing.

Roberto’s bag was swung over his shoulder as he walked away from his car, which was parked off the highway and well away from the school. Why? Because he could see crowds by the school and knew driving through it wasn’t the best plan. Especially since the closer he got, the more it looked like fighting.
“Ah, a welcome to mutant high battle,” he said to himself in an amused tone. “Okay then.” His Brazilian accent was thick in his words as he tossed his backpack to the ground, muttering, “I’ll start out with a bang then.”
With a wild whoop, he threw his arms downwards and his body let the mutation kick in. His skin and clothes turned black, as if burning like charcoal. He launched himself into the air, flying over the battle. Being so new, bran new really, it was hard to tell who was friend and who was foe. But he could roughly figure it out.
When he saw someone struggling with a group of what he guessed was intruders, he threw himself to the ground, reaching out and burning several of the attackers. He threw a glance at the person behind him. “You okay?”
“Peachy, with a side of keen.” came the reply, Leitis already covered in blood, though it was unsure how much of it was hers or otherwise; she didn’t seem too worse for the wear, yet, and in fact it began to seep from her clothes and dance across her fingers to be harnessed properly.
True, it didn’t seem much like something dangerous, but when it soon after whipped through the air before her it sliced clean through the ear of a pursuing mutant, confusing him more than anything as she brought herself around to keep her back to her newfound comrade, feeling it was safest.
“Thanks for the save? Keep making charcoal, I can generally keep them down if you need.” She said this with a grunt as her free came out to twist her fingers in the air towards a male with no hair that was throwing himself at the brazilian, crippling his movement long enough for Sunspot to turn him to ash.
