Ngl while I do love Manfred who is Too Aware™ of how others feel about him I also love “completely oblivious that other people despise him” Manfred a lot. Guy who doesn't realize that the public has turned against him until someone threatens his life and the news makes it out to be his own fault. Guy who thinks he's friends with his coworkers until they say otherwise and then he's like "oh 🥲". Guy who leaves his first interaction with Gregory like "that was a nice chat :)" while Gregory is wondering what crawled up his ass and died to make him so unlikeable.

It's like the difference between him intentionally being an asshole (paranoid and protecting himself) and unintentionally being an asshole (missing social cues on account of the autism) and I love both interpretations.
