Drowning Fox - "Let the Bodies Get Off"
Politics below.
It's frightening how much crime, villainy, graft, corruption, attempts to destroy democracy and offenses against humanity P01135809's followers refuse to admit into their consciousness. They can't even see he doesn't give a crap about them. They're busy resenting, hating and seething at "others", buying into his victimhood schtick. They might just love the horrors ahead that Rick Wilson describes.

Some...
...body once told me,
Steve Harwell's doing poorly,
And I just found out that he's dead.
This song was overplayed.
Its welcome overstayed.
Damn you, Shrek, it's now stuck in our head.
I'll stick with good old very affordable cast iron, thankyouverymuch. You can abuse the hell out of cast iron and still restore and reseason it as needed. You even get healthy iron added to your diet! (Really.) There are best practices, of course, that can make it mostly trouble-free to last generations.
Now, this isn't to say that were I flush with money-bucks I wouldn't buy a bunch of pieces in a variety of colors... because I would.
I'm not a fan of the enamel surface though. It's not exactly non-stick amd it's not something you want to burn or scorch anything upon. Enamel can chip in a small spot and then grow worse. Metal utensils are bad for it. That's a lot of vulnerability in, say, a several hundred dollar sauce pan the cast iron equivalent of which would cost under 30 dollars brand new, one to five dollars at a garage sale.
Hell, cast iron cookware is practically home defense gear while someone might plead with home invaders to not touch their Le Creuset.
A cocotte in every color, a $38,000 collection or seasonal pots: meet the enthusiasts of the French enamel cookware brand
This is the whey.
I'm behind on viewings of many things so this is my reminder to myself to watch these series:
Andorr (One 'r' or two? Don't care.)
The Mandelorian (s3)
Good Omens (s2)
Oh, and also the movie Oppenheimer. Already watched Barbie and loved it.

Last night we got walloped by that storm and all our gutters overflowed as well as drainage in our driveway. Have to do a dreaded ladder climb to clear the gutter spouts out. Water was about an inch high in parts of the garage. Dad and I had to use a snake to get the drain working again. A toad visited while we labored on that.
I keep an eye on the folks (turning 81 and 82 next week) but am still occupied with genealogy research and processing old photos between other tasks. New sets of cousins in our area are always emerging before me, coming out of once huge French-Canadian families, i.e. A. family of 8 to 12 kids then has several of those kids having 8 to 12 kids etc. Often entire Canadian families that lived very close to each other in Moose Creek, Cornwall, Valleyfield and around Montreal will have ended up here in Ogdensburg, NY together again, usually during that stretch from the 1850s to the 1920s, their families often already having intermingled.
Just last might, I learned some people I thought were 3rd cousins are actually not but the way we are 5th cousins still stands. Got that?
In other news, I had a FARK meetup today 19 years in the making since the last one! A few details later.
Stay above water, folks.

Tumblr exclusive post right here! Not on facespace, tweeters, myspaces or bluemastodons! This is it. Sorry for the lack of substance, but it's still exclusive!
Nice one, Oath/Verizon.
Hi there, Tumblr! Been a long while. Just wanted to check in before the site goes to shit with the pending naughtiness ban of Dec. 17, 2018. If you’ve ever wanted to see a platform die in real time, now’s your chance!
Would a decent way to protest this bullshit decision be for all of us to utterly flood our blogs with LEGAL nudes for the rest of the week and tag @staff each and every time?
I’ve considered it.
The thing that’s so galling is how Tumblr is following this pattern that’s emerged among new and growing platforms: embrace and support sex workers while the platform is maturing, and then banning those same people – who helped the platform grow and flourish – at some arbitrary point in the future.
It’s not 1950. The Internet isn’t your corner newsstand. Instead of banning all adult content, which ridiculously tends to include non-sexual LBGTQ content, platforms like Tumblr should work with legitimate sex workers to develop tools and policies that both protect children and respect the rights of adults.
You’re really doing this all wrong, @staff.
Are you the problem?
Oh, swell. It's after 3:30am, Nov. 24, 2015. Five #BlackLivesMatter protesters in Minneapolis have been shot by masked white male terrorists also wearing bullet-proof vests. The protesters were peacefully demonstrating against a recent suspicious shooting and killing of a black man by police. Witnesses claim the victim of the initial shooting was wearing handcuffs at the time and other alleged witnesses were pushed back into their homes by police soon afterwards. As for tonight, details are still trickling out about it all.
Now, are you bothered by any of that? Maybe you think our most imminent threat is ISIS and Syrians. Well, stop freaking out like idiots over terrorists sneaking into the US with Syrian refugees, for which the odds are pretty freaking low, and realize "We have met the enemy and he is us!". The white terrorists want conflict to brew and boil just like ISIS does.
Violent American left-wing extremists had pretty much faded away by the very early 1970s but right-wing terror has continued to be a greater threat to all of us than any foreign entity and has a history of deadly violence going back well over 150 years. Many only recently became aware of all the threats and menacing continually experienced by black students at Mizzou and right on the heels of that comes this incident. Additionally, a black man was recently beat up and kicked at a political rally by a white crowd supporting a presidential candidate who did not discourage the forceful removal of the man. That same candidate posted false statistics yesterday from a Neo-Nazi group in order to vilify black people. That same candidate is claiming there were crowds of supposedly Muslims cheering by the thousands, the destruction of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 from over in New Jersey, when their is zero proof of any such thing ever happening. That candidate refuses to back down from his absolute lies about about black violence, Mexicans, Muslims, Syrians and more. He has no shame at all and is both embracing and playing upon the schmucks who will adore him for that stuff.
The shooting in Minneapolis of a handcuffed man by a cop remains to be fully addressed, investigated or handled within a court of law. We've seen a startling number of police-involved killings of black people in the last year alone. This shit is why #blacklivesmatter is important. It's not about black lives being more important. You're an idiot if that's what you think is what's being said. It's a movement to show that black lives are being ended and black people are being incarcerated at much, much higher rates than people of other "races". They receive longer sentences than white people. They are offered less favorable plea deals. They are systemically treated poorly and it just perpetuates other problems.
It doesn't matter how much you think cops walk on water and can do no harm. The truth is there's a significant number of them who apparently consider there to be an open season on black people who aren't even armed or sometimes even resisting. Other cops are tolerating that shit and might as well be the shooters, IMHO. These black people are not at fault for being shot and killed because they just didn't show enough respect for the officers, had bad manners or were disrespectful. It doesn't freaking matter that there was an incident of one black man who carried a gun who had a nice peaceful encounter with the police. His happy little story was making the rounds on the net thanks to some people who wanted to say "See, if those blacks would just play nice, obey the nice police thrashing them, tazing them or holding a gun on them and just know their place as a minority, they'd be fine!" Go talk to some black people and see where 'behaving' or even being 'compliant' got them. It won't always be a pleasant story. A large number of problematic encounters for black people with police stem not from an observed crime but for them simply being black.
Get your god damn head out of your ass if you somehow think all those black people (and any other race of people) in the news must have done something wrong to merit being killed. Do you think it's more likely for them to be criminals because they're caught being black? It makes me disgusted when I hear white people just waiting to hear some little detail on the news that they can then use to place the onus for being shot or mistreated on the victim. "Ohhhh! He might have stolen cigarillos!", "Ohhh! See! He touched the officer with is elbow!", "Oh, see he's dressed like a gangster (or his pants are low)!", "Ohhh, he was found to have sold pot in school!" I guarantee someone can dig up some illicit act or mere twitch in your past that merits being shot and killed just as much as all those now-deceased black people. Maybe you also blame rape victims for being raped based upon what they were wearing or any flirting they did before their rape.
We've got bad cops when there shouldn't be any. One bad one reflects poorly on ALL of them if they do nothing about it; if they clear themselves of wrong doing; or if a number of them can be tied to white supremacist leaders and groups. There is no acceptable number of bad killer cops no matter how much you worship the police. It doesn't matter how nice and wonderful and valiant a cop you know happens to be if people are still being killed by other cops for no adequate reason! Now, take those sentences and you'll only have to change a few words to make them apply to sexually abusive priests within the Roman Catholic Church. Do you think it only applies to kiddy-fiddling priests and not the police now?
How is it acceptable in any police manual or any situation outside of a legitimate theater of war overseas, to arrive at a park with reports of a small child allegedly with a gun and then slay him with repeated gunfire? It was a toy gun the child had and shooting the child should have NEVER been option even if the child had an actual damn gun. But the kid was black and the first investigations cleared the cop of any wrong doing. So let's all go back to our happy lives!
How the hell can you universally praise police forces in this country when those incidents happen? How can all cops be good or competent if so many cases exist of mentally-impaired people being tazed to death, beaten to death or shot? There are people on my friends list here who have lost family members in just such situations, so STFU if you think any of that's excusable.
Now, to think we've got this blowhard, bullying and racist son of a bitch in Donald Trump that wants to lead our nation and he's got legions of brainless morons who love him, showing up like it's a rally in 1930s Berlin. He's embarrassing our entire nation without even being in office. If YOU follow him, you're probably a brainless and probably racist moron, who votes against their own interests every year, and who probably has no problem with rounding up people of a particular ethnicity or faith into camps and into corresponding databases. You are quite clearly not a critical thinker. Trump and his followers are some of the most dangerous threats to America to come along in a while.
All the wackjobs are being stirred up, empowered, motivated and mobilized by Trump's senseless hate and empty rhetoric. He almost... almost makes some of his fellow GOP candidates look significantly more acceptable instead of marginally more acceptable to have in the proverbial life raft from a sinking ship, (certainly not as elected officials!).
As you can see, I'm way past caring if anyone doesn't like being chastised for supporting Trump, being racists, bigots, xenophobes and homophobes, for ridiculing #blacklivesmatter and blindly supporting the police and any other leaders of law enforcement, for claiming to be Christians but hating and hating and hating others because they're not white, not straight and not Americans, for urging the closing of borders to Syrian refugees who desperately need our help, and for refusing to seek facts and data about the experiences of the downtrodden in America instead of judging them all to be 'takers', 'bums', 'welfare queens', 'losers', 'lazy' and more because a rich man told you they were and since you've got what you want already and thus anyone else be damned now.
Maybe you're the person who falls for the anti-gubmint rhetoric, again from very rich people with very rich friends, that says gubmint should get out of the way with all that safety, inspections, pollution controls, taxes, consumer protections and regulations. You'll be first to sue when a product harms you or you're hurt in the process of making it. You'll be the first to cry out for gubmint to come and help you after a disaster but don't want anyone else to get help. Maybe you despise all those handouts for people but have no problem with handouts to corporations.
You don't understand how helping other people out of the shit holes they're in actually helps you. You'd rather clasp your wallet to yourself, lock your doors and windows and send the police out to shoot the dark-skinned people so you can sleep and wake the next day warmed by your ideologies to continue pretending those lesser beings have no reason to be upset, tired of having nothing and lacking opportunities. You don't think you'd start selling crack, robbing people, fighting to keep what's yours, taking what you think others owe you due to the chip on your shoulder and more if you lived beneath the suppression of someone else's boot for so long? Sometimes you're really no different than the people you detest. Sometimes you're just in a nicer neighborhood.
You're in the majority right now. You are not the victim of the minorities. You are advantaged because they are disadvantaged.
You're the reason members of minorities continue to be shot without repercussion by police. You're the reason black people and other groups have suffered so long and cannot get a leg up in life so they can compete on an even playing field with you. You're the bastards afraid of losing your grip on privilege and power in a world you just expect to be handed to you. You're the one with entitlement issues. You're the one who takes and doesn't give back. You're the one who makes your own situation worse. You're the one who refuses to acknowledge in 2015 that they still reap the benefits of our nation being being built upon the backs of cheap minority labor on land we committed genocide upon in order to take for our own. You're the one who doesn't want to admit that so many suffer to this day because of what those centuries of servitude perpetuate within families, cultures and communities. The chickens will come home to roost.
You're all that is wrong with the United States of America.
You might be an asshole.
You’ve likely heard the pathetic fear mongering and xenophobia of mostly members of the GOP and their followers over the idea of aiding Syrian refugees. Close the doors! Shut them out! They’re all terrorists and bombers waiting to kill us all! As if all the terrorists have just been sitting around waiting for Syrian refugees to hide out with all this time and have never tried to come ashore here or succeeded earlier than this.
We now are hearing that we should be taking care of ‘muricans first: Our vets, the homeless vets and the just plain homeless! Now we should be helping them since that would obviously be better than letting people in need find refuge here. Isn’t it amazing how suddenly those down-and-out Americans suddenly are worthy of assistance?
We certainly could easily solve homelessness and be sure veterans are well taken care of. All the money exists and dealing with those problems is cheaper than letting them just fester as they are. However, our politicians just don't want to because that money could fund more wars, buy more tanks and provide endless corporate welfare. The same people that spit on veterans and the homeless as though their problems are just a matter of a lack of willpower, are many of the same people trying to close doors to refugees. Why would anyone want to be like such callous ideologically stubborn twats who hypocritically say we should be helping our own first? We also live in a global economy and the status of one nation has an effect on others for better and for worse. Letting a few thousand Syrian refugees rot and be someone else's problem is inhuman, un-American and cruel. It could certainly come back to bite us in the ass tenfold. Who would think well of a country that shits on a relatively small number of people so in need of our help when we have so many riches here, albeit sometimes poorly distributed? That's how we lose stature in the world. America cannot be a great country if it ignores the varied makeup of the people that made it great and then shuns those who could help it become better. These refugees are not dregs of society looking for a handout like the caricatures painted by candidates on the right. They're people just like you and I, getting out of the hell they were subjected to, who have lost everything and who did not want to watch their families be killed one by one. How Christian is it to turn those people away? We are in greatest danger from our fellow Americans, our home-grown terrorists on the right, rather than Syrian refugees with alleged snake-in-the-grass terrorists among them. How can a nation full of immigrants and their children say "Whoa! STOP! No more on board! We took everything the locals had, we've got ours now and we don't want to share!" when some of what we now consider our worst homes and our poorest people are like palaces and royalty compared to the standard of living for the average human being on this planet? So much for the charity that we were well known for and the welcoming arms we once offered to those who would be like us. If someone opposes helping these people out of absurd and unfounded fears, they should just admit they're no better than the troglodytes that drove those people from their homes in the first place. Helping the oh-so-suddenly cherished American homeless and vets is actually the very same kind of act that is giving those refugees a chance to survive. If you see these refugees as 'others' we can ignore? You're a god damn hypocritical asshole that I hope never needs anyone else's help.
Are members of ISIS really Muslims? Yes.
This is something I would post on facebook but there are too many hair-trigger reactionaries on my friends list that will either react with rage or on the other side of the political spectrum somehow mistakenly see support for their more thoughtless bigoted views of foreigners Eastern Hemisphere people that is so broad as to actually be somewhat racist. Fiirst, check out this great post by Faisal Saeed Al Mutar at his blog: “I am a jihadist and I’m tired of not being given credit”.
People on Twitter and on facebook who are on the left and liberal like myself are strangely turning into apologists for Islam. They're posting memes or vehemently stating "ISIS members are not Muslims!" or "ISIS doesn't represent Islam". You'll see denials that the attacks in Paris were connected to faith and Islam. You'll also see "You can't say ISIS is Islamic any more than you can say the KKK and Westboro Baptist Church are Christians" and variations on that wording. Well, guess what? They all are a part of what they claim to be a part of and it's silly to try and hold up some rainbows and unicorns version of Islam or Christianity as being the end all be all of those faiths. Respectively, it’s the same gods and it’s the same holy books in use at both ends of the spectrum. But in both cases, the extremists and wingnuts are probably more in sync with their holy book's teaching then those in the aforementioned apologists' versions of those faiths.
Al Mutar's post is awesome and exactly what I've been thinking about. It kind of echoes some of what I said in my last post here at tumblr. Are ISIS members Muslim? Yes. Does ISIS represent Islam? Yes. Are the WBC members or Klan members Christians? Yes. Do WBC and Klan members represent Christianity? Yes. Now before anyone gets angry over what I just said: None of those offenders represent the WHOLE of Islam or WHOLE of Christianity respectively but they are a part of their larger faith communities. Lemme put it this way: Pretend if you must that you belong to the Catholic church and imagine you're sitting in a pew with another family. In your family, the wife does not live to obey the husband as you are equal and advocate feminism. You believe abortion is admissible in some circumstances and not a horrific sin. You use contraceptives. You don't believe in capital punishment. You don't think there's anything wrong with homosexuality or sexual relations between members of the same sex. You are pacifists who don't believe in war. Now the other family follows strict Catholic Church rules and only utilizes the Rhythm Method for 'family planning'. They believe in capital punishment, think abortion is a great sin and believe the woman must be quiet and obey her husband in all things. They think homosexual acts are sins and that severe punishment including death should be meted out against gay people. They have no problem with soldiers going to war and destroying people of other faiths. They are willing to kill in the name of their God and Jesus. Tell me who is or isn't Catholic? Who is or isn't really Christian? Both you and the other family claim to be both Catholic and Christian. Who does or doesn't follow what's in their holy book very faithfully? Is one more Catholic or Christian than the other? Some parts of Catholicism are not reflected in New Testament Christianity. But you both say you follow what's written in The Bible. And you're both right. Furthermore, what about Catholics versus Protestants? Who is really Christian there? What about Orthodox churches? What about violent Christian militias around the globe? All those sects say they're Christian and follow what is in The Bible. What about the Christian denominations in Northern Ireland that have different views of violence, death, sacrifice and so on that they all claim somewhat correctly is in The Bible? How about the variety of people within Islam? Some believe in beating their wives. Some do not. Some say women must be hidden behind very modest clothing. Other abandon the hijab. Some let women drive cars. Others do not. Some say those women should be stoned for such offenses. Others do not. Some think anyone who isn't Muslim is a heretic or infidel and must be killed if they won't convert. Some do not. They all proclaim to be part of Islam so I ask again, who among them is or isn't a Muslim? Who represents Islam and who doesn't? Those friendly-neighborhood Muslims so many are leaning on to denounce the acts of ISIS and the members of Al Queda and ISIS ALL say they're following what is written in the Quran. And they're both right. Echoing what I said the other day: Until either of those major faiths clean up their rule books so it either promotes violence or doesn't; Ether urges killing of infidels or does not; Either contains a vengeful and genocidal god or one of love; Either condemns homosexuality or doesn't... we don't get to say that ISIS members aren't part of Islam or aren't "true" Muslims. We don't get to say WBC members aren't "true" Christians. We don't get to say whether you or the other family in your pew is a better Catholic. You can go on until you're blue in the face employing the fallacy of "No True Scotsman" and continually discount anyone's claims that a radical group is part of the faith they say they are. You will be denying their membership in the larger faith because no true Christian/Muslim would do x or y.... and you'll be making an error. The so-called non-violent peaceful members of a faith that claim majority status cannot be said to wholly represent their faith so long as there are extremists, fundamentalists and radicals doing the same. In both major faiths, it is those who act peacefully toward each other and others outside their faith who are usually the least adherent to what is really in their holy books. Sometimes, the beliefs of the extremists of a faith are nearly identical to the beliefs of the majority of the members of a faith. I believe this is more true in Islam than it is in Christianity of the last few hundred years. It's just that some people obviously see the need to take action with guns, bombs, knives, rape, terrorism and destruction. But criticizing faith_X is racist! Uh, no. Judaism is not a race. Christianity is not a race. Islam is not a race. You can be American, African or Iraqi and be Muslim. You can be Italian, French, Chinese or Iraqi and be a Christian. You can be a Jew and be Canadian, African or Jordanian. Your skin color is also not a barrier to being part of any of those faiths. Ironically, it's conflating a faith with a race when opposing someone's criticism of a faith... that is actually a kind of racism. (Paging Ben Affleck...) But if you hate those faiths, you're hating all the people! Uh, no. I like some Christians. I do not like others. I like some Muslims. I do not like others. I like the members of both faiths that choose to be more mature and reasonable than all the bullshit that is in their holy books. I wish they'd abandon their horrible hypocritical faiths that make extremism, hate and violence incredibly easy to commit. The peaceful, respectful, egalitarian and loving aspects that do exist in both faiths can be practiced and passed on to others without holy books, churches, holy wars and so on. Only through the greater spread of educational opportunities and the accurate portrayal of those faiths for the violent stains on humanity that they are in their current form, can we live in a time when planes are less likely to fly into buildings, travelers are less likely to be beheaded and people in stadiums aren't as likely to be slaughtered. This shouldn't be difficult to understand but apparently it all is for some people.

Religions of peace, my ass.
The wingnuts that constantly pop up and wreak havoc seem completely unable to notice how little effect the actions of their predecessors had on their cause and thus they follow the same path. In fact, they may only be in it for the alleged glory, the virgins and so on. Kind of selfish and inauthentic when you get down to it, isn’t it? But since they all believe in a cockamamie sky wizard that needs his subjects to protect him from books, technology and education and from other humans who don't bow to him, who may create images of him and his prophet, whose male followers are apparently powerless in the presence of women who show more than just their eyes and whose prophet was a pedophile, then I guess the leap to mass killer is pretty damn easy. Today you’re undoubtedly seeing all the defenses of Islam as a “religion of peace”. Fuck that noise. Do you think it’s a religion of peace? If you do, get your head out of your ass, you death-enabling idiot.
One can recognize the fact that a dominant portion of the Judeo-Christian faithful around the globe choose to not take up the more brutal and horrible treatment of others that is advocated in the Bible and Torah.
There seems to be a reduction in such 'traditional' barbaric behavior once western civilizations emerge from the Dark Ages/Middle Ages around roughly 1500 AD.
In comparison, Islam has never changed and it sure as hell isn't worth anyone's life for us all to just wait it out until it does so because of some ideological kumbaya candy-ass brand of tolerance some have adopted.
Islam is still fixated on the modes of existence and power structures in the time of Muhammad. It's practically a fetish. It's not unlike the Amish who picked the early 1800s for their overboard cosplay.
I’ll repeat what I’ve said many times: I don't have to blindly and thoughtlessly respect everyone else's silly beliefs, culture or what have you. I don't know why so many intelligent people still cry "Oh, you have to respect other people's faith!"
Oh HELL NO I don't!
If your religion is in favor of all the horrible things we're all discussing, why should I respect that? I respect people's right to choose but I don't have to respect what they choose. If you are the type that says we must all get along and respect each other's religions, tell me how you're okay with pain-inflicting animal sacrifices, sexual molestation of children, slavery, physical and mental abuse, beheadings and so on that are part of other people's religions.
There is no way around the fact that the Qu'ran (and the Bible) encourage the punishment of others who do not share the same faith or refuse to conform to that faith. Yes, there are contents of each book that contradict the violence we speak of but the violence, genocide, stoning, slavery, misogyny, domination and menacing righteousness is still RIGHT THERE in everyone's faces. It's not hidden.
You simply can NOT call Islam, Judaism and Christianity (that ignores Jesus' call for absolute love) religions of peace if all that horrible stuff is still preached, still present and reproduced, still considered official and straight from the mouth of God or Allah.
Don't tell me homosexuality is wrong and punishable by death and tell me you follow Christ's teachings.
Don't tell me you are enlightened and embracing of modernity when women are wearing hijabs, can't drive, can't work in the same space, cannot seek an education and are to be physically punished by their husbands for any alleged offenses.
Don't tell me your religion is peaceful if a significant number of its members are murderers, butchers and terrorists on the scale that we have been witness to in just the last 15 years.
If someone wants to think they or their particular sect has set aside the worst things advocated in their holy books, then WHY THE HELL don't they purge that shit, condemn it, burn it up, exorcise it and focus on what they consider the promotion of peace, love, charity and coexistence?
You don't go to a restaurant that is crawling with rats and roaches because the desert menu is great. You don't live in house that's on fire because it's so close to school and shopping.
Either get rid of the violent, hateful, genocidal, vindictive, victimizing, vicious, discriminatory and nightmarish crap that is part of your faith and make the world a better place OR stop saying Islam and Judeo-Christian religions are religions of peace.
I repeat: Take those passages and pages out of your damn fairytale books and advocate peace or remain party to your religions worst manifestations.
The Cup Psalm?
For realz? Some more-Christian-than-thou folks ignorant of human history are upset over Starbucks seasonal coffee cups? *facepalm* They're likely upset over all sorts of other immaterial things like that. There's something new every day for them to get off on being butthurt about, isn't there?
Is there a listserv or newsletter pointing out the offense du jour for those people to define their day around? I bet there is. "Today, everyone, as we kick off March, we should be upset over bunnies in Easter decorations because their ears form a 'V' and that is vagina worship that the satanic homosexuals want to force on our kindergartners! OUR KINDERGARTNERS!! #vaginabunnies"
Even when I 'believed' long ago as a child, my god was above coffee cups, how anyone greeted each other at the holidays or exactly what they did or didn't do to celebrate him, but rather how well humans treated fellow humans. Treating other humans well is still what's important to me and to see those who claim to live in honor of their savior and put a claim on his name act so frequently judgmentally and in opposition to the choices of other people that believe differently, just makes my head asplode.
My god obviously wasn't the genocidal, angry, petty, childish, vengeful, murderous, torturous, bloodthirsty and egotistical god of the majority of the Bible because none of that made any sense whatsoever. Who wanted to worship that asshole and why would he need me to worship him despite his omniscience and omnipotence? Did you see what he did to Job? What a dick! The god I thought existed seemed unfortunately non-interventionist and emotionally disconnected so I figured he must have left everyone to take care of themselves and each other. You know, making the best of the whole free will thing. That didn't seem tough to understand even when I was, say, 10 years old. That god at least created beer, chocolate and bacon because he loved us if nothing else.
In sync with that, the importance of particular faiths, their political hierarchies, misogyny, rules and righteousness made little sense. I was being taught (by people outside my immediate family) that Protestant marriages didn't count. Divorced people couldn't take communion. Non-baptized people were on a short list for hell. Homosexuality was a sin. You had to kneel, stand up and pray in the right sequences or risk the devil sleeping in your bed! You should feel ashamed and guilty at all times! Sex was only for procreation after marriage! And the hits just kept on coming.
Again, I still chose to see the better, non-supernatural-based lessons I was taught by immediate family about loving other people as being the best thing that all those wacky territorial denominations should have been teaching every Sunday instead of how everyone had a potential comeuppance due them and how they should feel bad or angry about everything. There were too many good fish fries, turkey dinners and bake sales being held at competing churches for Catholicism or Christianity to be the only valid choices.
So it apparently is true that some Christians who likely believe in a "War on Christmas" are making coffee cups their focus today. And that's truly pathetic. Their god would be slighted by a coffee cup? That's truly pathetic too.
Any alleged Christian who is upset over coffee cups but not the fact that they're spending that much money on an overpriced caffeine fix made with mediocre coffee when that money and their time could be spent helping those who have less, is hardly a Christian. Ditto for those upset over greetings at retail centers while spending money on themselves and others, often trampling others just to save on luxuries. Ditto for all those who let pandering conservative media make them angry over what others do with their lives and that others do not share their shallow, mindless and hateful moral codes.
They're doing it wrong and need to get their priorities straight. They need to do so quickly before the rest of us ram our dried-out Druidic Christmas trees up their asses as we shout "Happy Holidays!" this January.
tl;dr: Cups. Really?
