we need to bring back public hatred for paparazzi. I’m so tired of actors defending themselves against assholes with cameras and being smeared as egotistical divas. they’re glorified stalkers who get paid to harass people. end of. the things these freaks get away with would send normal people to prison but we’re supposed to think it’s okay just bc they’re paparazzi. they SHOULD get shut down for being openly misogynistic. they SHOULD get told off and reported for following someone to their private residence to doxx them. they SHOULD face charges for just about running people over in their pursuit of the next hot celeb. this is not normal. and, actually, these people DO deserve to get punched sometimes.

I will never ever understand why anyone would want to make another human being upset on purpose. I never have and never will understand the appeal of "getting a rise out of" another human being. I will never understand why some people find joy or amusement over another human being's suffering and distress.

And the fact that this behavior is so widely acceptable and tolerated really is the root of so, so many problems. Sexual assault and abuse wouldn't be so rampant if this behavior wasn't so socially acceptable, you can't change my mind. Today's "he's just trying to get a rise out of you because he thinks it's fun to make you upset, but it's not a big deal and it's completely harmless that he likes to make you upset for fun" is tomorrow's rapist and/or abuser.

what is your medieval chickens — a small but important detail in a work of fiction that totally shatters the suspension of disbelief largely because of a niche interest you have or your profession? because this is mine:

in the US, it is a legal requirement that any patient who requests or demonstrates need for translation services is provided a medical translator before any consent to treat can be considered valid. does that mean everyone everywhere gets the translation services they need in accordance with this law? no, which sucks, however i promise you that any hospital in the US ilya will ever go to (at least in major cities) wouldn’t touch him without a translator present because 1. massive massive liability 2. docs can’t really do their job either if they can’t understand their patient and 3. cities with major league sports teams expect players at their hospitals and at least a few staff members would recognize them. ilya would have a translator at his bedside before shane ever got the text that ilya was in the hospital.

i hate the game mouthwashing. i cannot wrap my mind around how so many people found it so powerful and profound. i have been anya; i was assaulted by an acquaintance with whom i had many mutual friends, and when i told just a few of those mutual friends what happened, they did nothing. there was no confrontation. they all continued hanging out and carrying on their friendship as if nothing happened while i grew more isolated and lonely. and when everything finally came out and shit hit the fan, there was no profound moment of realization. no one took responsibility for how they had excused an act of violence against someone they claimed to love and care about. i got a few half assed apologies and eventually cut ties with everyone involved.

anya doesn’t live to see curly reckon with his actions. she dies not just believing but knowing her safety mattered less than curly’s need for approval. realizing that someone you thought cared about you does not value your safety or personhood is infinitely more horrifying than realizing you’re a shitty person. but for whatever reason, the devs found it more compelling for curly to be at the center of the story. anya exists to get raped and die and be a vehicle for curly’s character development. it is almost impossible to dehumanize her any further.

curly only starts to feel guilty once his complicity starts impacting him. how long would it have taken him to realize the gravity of his actions if they had never backfired so profoundly? would he ever have? i waited months for my friends to stand up for me. it wasn’t until someone else got hurt that anyone did anything. how long would curly have let anya suffer quietly if she had been the only casualty?

i admire what mouthwashing tries to do but good lord does it miss the mark. and yeah i am biased because it does hit quite close to home but it also sucks that the consensus seems to be that this game is some kind of profound commentary on complicity and responsibility. why does it take a fate worse than death for someone to realize excusing the rape of your friend is a morally reprehensible thing to do?

i could use a lot of words to explain why off campus is so upsetting as a rape survivor but tbh i don’t have the energy so i’ll just say that i want more rape survivors in fiction to exist for reasons other than to 1. get fixed by magical healing dick from Mr. Right and/or 2. be a vessel for others to prove that they are Good People™️. a rape survivor is not suddenly more valuable because the love interest gives them the “you’re not broken” speech. a rape survivor is not a practice dummy for you to demonstrate consent with. hannah deserved so much more than the story was willing to give her and it’s so disheartening that we’re still giving young women violent harrowing backstories involving sexual assault just so we can see a man swoop in and Treat Her Right.

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
