One Way or Another
Smoker! Nick x Gn! Reader (Angst + Smut) MINORS DNI
TW: Zombie anatomy, mentions of blood and major character death.
Nick, after getting separated from the clawing hands of the undead comes back very, very different. He's still in there, and he yearns for your love.
Wonderful request made by my favorite reoccurring friend, @gridd1e ! Thank you for trusting me to fulfill this request. This was very fun to write, and much different from what I usually would post, its refreshing to write something new! Loved this.
Thank you for reading!! Requests are open but will take some time to get to since I've got a couple to work on in the chamber. 🫶 Thank you for your patience. around 3,500 words.
--------------------------------------------------------------
It was hard to move on without him. The circumstances only grew worse and worse without a fifth person. He was one of the last you’d expected to kick the bucket, but he was gone. Truly gone this time.
Nick was an asshole sometimes, but he had truly grown on you after the many days across Savannah. His skills were proven to be valuable, despite his smug demeanor. You had your moments with him at times, but begrudgingly to Nick, he was attached to you at this point. You two were close, and evidently so. The others seemed to have their own thoughts about the two of you, mostly teasing and such. Not that Nick cared, often flashing a quick finger in their direction.
Many nights were spent in the same sleeping bag, huddled for warmth with his coat covering you. Your head rested upon his chest, hearing his heart steadily beat and chest rise, his breathing soft like a lullaby. One of Nick’s hands wrapped around your side in a soft grip, holding your body tightly against himself. His soft kisses felt like eons ago, destined to have an everlasting effect on you. Those serine moments ended before you had even realized it.
You were in the middle of an apocalypse after all, and the reality was hitting you like a semi-truck.
You hadn’t seen him in days.
The last time you saw him, he was attacked by a horde. Clawed fingers and raw teeth slowly dragged him away, never to be seen again. The horrible sounds of his sacrifice echoed through your mind constantly, it was a heavy weight to bare.
“Go! Just get out of here damn it!”
“Nick! No-!”
It hit your gut and heart. You could have saved him, you repeated in your mind. It sickened you, watching his fate unfold in front of your own eyes, yet unable to act. All it took was one small slip up, and it lead to his unfortunate fate. It haunted you, even as you travelled through Savannah, still attempting to find CEDA or any signs of life other than the current group of survivors. You had to keep moving on, for yourself.
But the guilt gnawed at you, drove you mad even. Your sleeping bag empty and bare, no longer awakening to the man’s limbs entangled with your own. The grief felt as if it was lugging you down everyday. You had continued on, through the burning cities and forgotten infrastructure, trailing behind the group more often than usual. Regardless of how dangerous it was to stick behind them.
However, It felt as if you were being watched constantly, like eyes were on your back persistently throughout each path you took. The feeling began a couple of days after Nick’s disappearance. An occasional creek behind you, or the sudden flutter of a flock of startled birds. The eerie feeling something was lurking, constantly lingering trickled down your spine.
Often left with a chilling feeling, that you weren’t alone. But every time you had turned around to check, fully expecting a jockey or hunter, you would be met with nothing. The others tended to brush you off, no matter how much you’d insisted something was seriously awry. But to be fair, since Nick’s parting you had been more paranoid and on edge. It wasn’t entirely shocking.
The night grew cold as you walked through the abandoned amusement park. The lights of Whispering Oaks were long forgotten, still left on and glimmering in the darkness. You walked around absentmindedly, keeping your melee poised incase any infected decided to materialize in front of you. The team was still relatively quiet, despite Ellis’s failed attempts to lessen the tension. He had tried to comfort you, but his attempts fell flat. Nick was gone. You blamed yourself for Nick’s disappearance, every one was aware. There was no way to sugar coat reality, you've realized.
As you walked through the amusement park, your mind continued to ponder off. The calm was nice for a short while, moving along the amusement park with the others. The games reminded you of old times, simpler times.
Simpler times with Nick even, your heart ached for the man. He would’ve absolutely despised this place, you chuckled to yourself at the thought. Right about now, maybe he would be making fun of Ellis or teasing Coach. It almost baffled you at how many times he tended to tease and irritate the others. But, all good moments end eventually.
It was unexpected, one moment was calm and somewhat serine, looking at all the bright lights of games and such. The next filled with the growls and angry snarls of the undead. They spilled into the area, you gripped your fire axe tighter as they approached.
“Get ready ya’ll!” Ellis called out as he reloaded his gun, it clicked as he snapped in a different magazine. Coach revved his chainsaw to life, the intimidating rumble echoing through the air. Rochelle readied her AK-47, taking a deep inhale, ready to face the horde.
You sliced and pushed them back, and it seemed like the horde was finally dying down. At least that’s what you thought, more and more seemed to just appear out of no where. The clown zombies only attracted more attention with their loud cartoonish sound effects, and it was almost impossible to target them among the giant swarm that had materialized just moments ago.
As the night continued and the horde never ceased, your limbs ached and burned from the weight of the axe you wielded. Constantly shoving and slicing, your arms grew tired, and the others seemed to be effected by the seer amount of undead as well. Coach was slowing down, and the rumble of his chainsaw grew quieter and quieter as the fuel was beginning to burn disturbingly low. Rochelle and Ellis had to switch to their own melee’s as ammo began to run out, their swings grew slow and exhausted.
However, as if things couldn’t get worse, that familiar feeling of being watched was suddenly overpowering.
Instantaneously, a loud guttural, yet raspy screech reverberated through the air. The sound immediately made you jolt in alarm, you had heard it before.
It was the warning screech of a smoker before they’d attacked. You attempted to stand poised and ready, however the infected ahead of you never rested. Their clawing and sharp attacks never ceased, and before you knew it, you were jerked back suddenly by a long, tongue like appendage. Barely even able to make a sound as your body was snared and helpless. It did not help that you were near the back of the group, providing support from behind. So when you were scooped away it would take at least a minute or two to notice.
It had happened so fast, you were slowly reeled in like a fish, and no matter how much you struggled, no amount would free the appendage covering your mouth. Your desperate eyes watching as the group’s silhouettes grew smaller and smaller, slowly dragged away. Your attempts at kicking and screaming were proven unsuccessful, no matter what you did, this damn smoker didn’t free you.
You were slowly dragged up the side of a building, all the way up to the towering roof. The ground growing smaller and smaller below your encased form, your stomach dropped at the height you were practically being hung at. The queasiness in your stomach almost made you want to throw up. Bile seemed to want to spill from the back of your throat.
Your brain spun at the lack of oxygen, your hands tugged at the appendage, even though it was futile. You could hear the sound of raspy coughs above you, a deep snarl emerged when you were grappled to the top. Your heart dropped to your stomach, you were undoubtedly snagged, and there was no chance the infected creature would release you.
However, in the corner of your eye a familiar blue and white suit stood slumped.
“Nick?” You would squeeze out to the best of your ability in horror at the petrifying realization that he’d actually turned. The feeling was Atkin to as if you had seen a ghost, which, in some sick way you had. Your heart dropped at the sight of him, Nick’s growling and raspy snarls seemed to subside as his glazed over eyes focused on you. The tentacle like appendage around your body slowly pulled you closer to him.
He was much lankier now, more than before. The constantly evolving virus of the green flu had changed him. Nick’s body seemed to loom over you, an almost expectant look on his now pale face as a growl emerged from his throat. His suit was torn and stained, the edges of his attire stretched and tore in an attempt to adapt to his change of frame. His hair somehow remained messily slicked back even now as a zombie. His skin a sickly green and tan, the veins in his arms were a frightening ghostly black. Some parts of his skin were discolored and patchy, including the sickening bumps that were patterned all over his body.
As he dragged you closer, you shut your eyes in terror. Your legs flailed in a poor attempt to try and scrape yourself away. Expecting to be met with quick death via strangulation or by the rough clawing of jagged fingers, your hands fumbled, aiming to grab your pistol out of its holster. His grip only increased, the muscles of the appendage flexed and tightened around your desperate body, your breath hitched. You could feel his ragged breathing graze the back of your neck, sending chills that made your hair stand.
“Nick! Nickolas!” You had tried to call out to the man.
But instead of the cold encasing of death, you felt the warm embrace of Nick’s changed body, merely holding you close. His raspy breaths ghosting your neck, your skin prickled at the sensation. Shuffling and wiggling your body momentarily, Nick’s grip on your frame seemed to diminish. His fingers still gripped you, almost as if he was afraid you may leave, but at least you could move now. With your freed hands and arms, you reached up. Cupping his face in your palms, he leaned into your touch with a gurgled coo.
“You’re still in there, huh?” You cocked your head up at him. Tears welling up in your eyes, you’d tried to blink them away, but it was futile. His own blurry eyes peered down at your own. Nick’s pupils seemed to dilate, and his irises were a dim olive green instead of the once charming blue hue they once were.
You were.. happy to see him. Despite his current circumstances. Stepped up on the tips of your toes, you pressed a firm kiss on his cheek. Tears dripped down your face as you did, your arms wrapped around his neck as he leaned down slightly at the attention. Continuing to pepper his face with kisses, you could feel his arms and appendage grip you once again. His rough hands wrapped around your waist, fingers inching against your hips.
“Please.” He rasped out with a snarl, his Adam’s apple bobbed as he did. It almost resembled a feral animal. It was deep, assertive almost. You paused slightly at the implication of his words, already feeling the need fester within your lower body.
“Nick, are you really sure? It’s you, right?” You sniffled, staring deep into his eyes. They seemed to glimmer back in need and want, seemingly almost dilating further. He was aware, and he wanted you. No, needed you. Nick simply clutched you deeper at your words, his raw voice taking a second to squeeze out a comprehensible response. Gravely vocal cords almost resembling a feral snarl in his attempt.
“Need you- Please, I need you.” Nick pleaded, so pitifully. His raw voice croaked and cracked, rough finger nails almost clawed at your skin. They gripped at your clothes, wanting nothing more than to just tear them off.
“I need to know it’s you, Nick, and not the virus speaking for you.” You clutched him closer, tilting his head further down to look into your eyes. His taller form slumped lower as you did.
“Please, please, it’s me. It’s me.” Nick pleaded, his face hiding itself into the crook of your neck, the feeling of his jagged teeth against your jugular made you shiver.
“Okay, okay. Of course.” You exhaled in exhilaration, you were really doing this. You braced yourself momentarily, unaware of what you were going to experience.
You could feel his lanky fingers inch down your shirt, but then the sudden feeling of his tentacle like tongue made you quiver. It was warm and sticky, and it crept its way down your pelvis and into your pants. You spreaded your legs wider, granting him access to your core. The appendage slowly shuffled down your panties, making its way down your pelvis to your vagina. Coating your folds with a layer of warm saliva, it was by far the strangest sensation you had experienced.
Nick seemed blissed out, desperate deep growls rose from his jugular. His fingers gripped at your hips as he held you, his face resting on your shoulder as he continued his ministrations under your clothed parts. The tent in his pants evident as he grinded himself against the plush of your ass.
“More, more..” Nick couldn’t help but whine.
“Fuck- Nick.” You grunted, feeling him push the appendage further into you and his length grind against you. He was going slow at the moment, but you could feel himself trembling behind you slightly, as if holding himself back from what he wanted to do.
You didn’t quite understand how this was happening, with the infection that clouded his mind you expected him to gut you alive just a minute ago. But he wanted you, and you only. Regardless of the virus and his changed demeanor. However, he was much more feral now, his voice was harder to understand at times as he was often snarling or growling. But his actions spoke for itself, he still did love you. Despite being turned into a literal Smoker.
And honestly, you didn’t quite mind. As long as it was truly him still in there.
Shuffling in his grip, you were able to strip your pants and panties off. The slick fabric slid down your thighs and down your legs, forgotten almost immediately. Nick silently clutched you closer from behind as you did, his tentacle like appendage still working you open. Your free hand moved to unclasp his belt, along with free his cock from the restraints of his boxers.
You took a second to gander at his cock, after all it felt like eons since the last time you had. It was noticeably longer and thicker, the dark veins that traveled up his shaft were more pronounced now, almost pulsing.
Suddenly, you could feel Nick move forward, his rough hands making you bend over. He immediately slotted himself between the tight of your thighs. The smokers tongue still pressed inside of you, and the overstimulation made you whimper as Nick began to move back and fourth repeatedly.
The friction alone spurred you on, the appendage within you moved in and out, rubbing against your clit perfectly. All while pressing against each sensitive nerve within you.
“Holy shit, where did you learn to do that Nick?” You practically mewled at the sensation. Nick gave a gargled growl in response, his pace growing steadily faster. Your back arched at the increase in speed, before Nick placed a hand on your back, bending you forward. He paused for a moment, gazing at the sight below him. Soft whimpers rose up from you as he did.
You were bent over for him, while you were being tongue fucked. A mix your own juices and his saliva coated your inner thighs, dripping down your legs now. The scent of your essence only urged Nick further and further.
You could feel his cock twitch and pulse between your thighs, a growl echoed from the man above you.
“Can I-? Please-“ Nick begged, his hands trembled and his body itched for you needlessly.
“Shit, of course.” You muttered breathlessly.
With a lewd audible squelch, he withdrew his appendage from your insides, instead moving it to rub your clit feverishly. You shuddered at the sudden emptiness, now feeling Nick move his free hand off of your hips, and lining himself up with your vagina.
He could feel how loose you were, and it didn’t take much effort to slide himself inside. Your heartbeat quickened, feeling the warmth and stretch of his length. Inch by inch he pushed in further, his pace slow despite his own bodies protests. You could tell he was holding back, it wasn’t hard to notice. Nick’s hips quivered, his fingernails dug into your skin, and his raspy breaths grew louder above you.
As Nick finally bottomed out, it was hard for himself to move at a reasonable pace. It was evident as his feverish movements only grew more intense, it was so obvious he was at his breaking point.
You took a long inhale and exhale, his appendage still played with your clit. Still squeezing you occasionally as the muscle was still wrapped around your body. And the sensations were beginning to get to you. He’d only just bottomed out inside you damnit, and you were already so close to cumming.
“Nick, oh god, I’m close.” You whined out breathlessly, Nick could only return with a guttural growl in response. His hips sped up at your words, hitting each and every sensitive spot within you. You swore you were seeing stars at this point, the sensations were downright mind numbing.
Each time he pulled out fully, only to slam back into you harder than the last. You tried to steady yourself as you could feel your legs begin to cramp and tremble. Suddenly, you felt the warmth of Nick’s chest press up against your back, his hips flush against your ass.
Nick desperately panted in your ear, all while his hands fondled your chest. His movements never ceased, even for a moment. You could feel the coil in your gut burst at the constant movement and stimulation. A loud moan erupted from your throat, only increasing Nick’s eagerness.
“Nick- fuck, I’m-!”
You could barely speak, you clenched around him, each pulse and convulsion only intensified Nick’s animalistic need for you. You had came undone in such a short time, though you could care less about being embarrassed, as Nick only grew more and more feral. His cock was covered in your release, painting the shaft a creamy white.
He continued without giving you any sort of warning. The slap of hips grew louder as he rutted into you, each lewd plap echoed through the air. Sweet broken mutters were choked into your ear to the best of his ability, thought most of it came out as disgruntled feral snarls and mixed growls, you could still somewhat understand what he was saying. Even as your eyes rolled back into your head from the intensity of it all, through the haze you were still.. somewhat coherent.
“I love you-“
“-was watching you for so long, you didn’t even realize it,”
He’d managed to choke out, his hips grew sloppier and sloppier. Slowly falling out of that constant rhythm, his ruts grew desperate. You could tell he was close, and after another few messy thrusts you could feel the warmth spill inside of you. Nick’s hands gripped your chest hard as he came, leaving behind bruises and scratches as he did. A long drawn out whine exiting his lungs.
Both of you remained there for a moment, you caught your breath as Nick shifted slightly. His movements uncoordinated as he shifted beside you, still buried into the crook of your neck, his breath tickled the hairs against your jugular ever so slightly. Your breath was still labored, and it felt as if you’d just ran a mile. The man above you supported your tired frame to the best of his ability.
“I love you Nick,”
You’d attempted to mumble out, before you were hit with a sickening wave of nausea. You choked lightly, but swallowed the feeling down.
Or at least attempted to. You brought your hands up to your face, and they were slowly turning a ghostly pale green. Your skin felt cold to the touch, a sudden shiver ran down your entire body. It felt as if it was rattling through your bones and nerves, down your very being.
Nick looked.. more calm than he should’ve been at your changes. Only rubbing your abdomen and sides as if attempting soothe your body. A soft, almost lulling coo rising up from him as he saw your bodies changes continue right before his eyes.
You just hoped the infection wasn’t sexually transmitted and you’d just gotten sick.. momentarily.
Though, being a zombie couldn’t be that horrid, right?

Ellis is talking his head off once again.
“So there was this time my buddy Keith-“ He started as you sat across from him in your sleeping bag. It seemed as if you were the only one who really wanted to listen, which was understandable as it was getting late, and everyone was tuckered out for the day.
Coach had told Ellis earlier that he could talk once they got somewhere safe, preferably once they were away from the horde of about a hundred zombies at the time. Well, now they were away from the infected and Coach regretted ever saying that. But he was a man of his word, and he kept his mouth shut as he laid down. Just staring at the ceiling with his loaded gun nearby. He closed his eyes at some point in time, soft snores coming from the older man.
You could see and hear Nick in the corner of said saferoom, grumbling to himself about how tired he was, both because of the undead and of listening to the red-necks ramblings. His hair was rather disheveled, with a very exasperated expression on his gruff face. He covered his ears with a scowl from his lonesome corner, his lower half tucked inside of his own sleeping bag. You swore you saw his eye twitch.
Rochelle had her sleeping bag completely over her face, comfortably snuggled into the spongy fabric. Completely tuning all noise out, dead asleep. Her breath is light, yet audible from your position next to her. Her golden hoop earrings taken off and placed to her side, they glimmered in the light.
There was a lantern in the middle of the safe room where you, and four other survivors had run into. You’d been with them for a couple of days now, they were an interesting group, to say the least.
Pushing your thoughts aside and focusing back on the man across from you, Ellis kept talking about his weird story with his buddy Keith. Their weird adventures and activities, and his life back home. Also something about fireworks and some failed attempt at deep frying a turkey.
He talked with such hope for a better future, that he was completely certain everything was going to go back to normal. That’s what you admired about him. He’d even built a zombie-killing monster truck according to his words, though he claimed it was ripped apart. You highly doubted it.
You gazed at his face. Maybe a little too hard, but he was too deep in his storytelling to notice with his exaggerated hand gestures and over excitement.
The way his eyes shined in the dancing light of the lantern, the way shadows accentuated the ridge of his nose. Each soft curve of his face, and expression written on him as he rambled on and on. Despite each cut and bruise littered on his face, he remained strong and positive. Certainly the eccentric one in these seemingly hopeless times.
You gravitated towards him unknowingly throughout the oncoming weeks. His long rambling sessions, his optimism in the damn apocalypse of all things. The way he slaughtered zombies with ease as if it was just an average day activity. It reeled you in like a fish, he probably wasn’t even aware he was.
It was foolish, you thought to yourself. It’s the apocalypse, not some romantic drama series. You’d just met him, it hadn’t even been a full month yet. But regardless of your constant pelting thoughts, he always seemed to peel you like an onion. Layer by layer. You noticed his eyes seemed to stare longingly at you, only to dart away once you caught him red handed.
His gaze would watch your diligent fingers reload your gun with ease. As he did for a thousandth time by now, and you were aware of his eyes.
How he would offer you food he had saved the day prior. Which according to Nick’s words, he never did till you came along with their little group. He shared ammunition with you, even healed you with the last remaining health kit they had, he swore they’d find more at some point in time. His voice was encouraging when you’d hit your shots on some infected, a hand patted your shoulder in excitement.
Each time he’d shoot up a conversation he’d stick to your side immediately. He knew you would listen, his words would stutter and fumble at times around you. It was cute, you admitted, not that you told him that.
Your pondering was brought to a halt as Nick had spoken up from his corner.
“Ellis, it’s goddamn 10 o’clock. Do you ever shut up?” Nick snapped at him.
Ellis’s story came to an abrupt end as it had many times prior. His voice grew quiet.
“Okay, okay I get it. Shit, I guess I just started trailin’ off.” He’d apologized to Nick, who just glared at him for a moment longer. The tension in the air lingering as Nick angrily shuffled into his sleeping bag, the zipper audible as Ellis focused back onto you.
“Sorry, yer’ probably real tired.” Ellis spoke quieter now, lazily tucking his legs into his sleeping bag.
“It’s fine Ellis. I may be tired, but your stories keep us going. Plus, they're entertaining.” You’d responded, giving him an encouraging smile. Your hands rested on your knees, yawning as the lantern flickered momentarily in the middle of the room. Shuddering softly at the cold wind that hit the safe room, your hands hugging yourself.
“Thanks, nice to know someone enjoys em’.” He chuckled nervously in response, a light dusted red spread across his cheeks as he grinned. He gave a light tip with his hat.
“Anyways, yer’ should.. probably get some shut eye.” He’d added sheepishly. His eyes darted away from your own as you studied his demeanor for a moment too long. The silence grew awkward.
“Yeah. Yeah..” You mumbled a reply half mindedly, a shiver running down your spine. It was always hot during the mid-day in Savannah Georgia, but as soon as the sun set, the cold settled. The wind picked up at times, even within a safe room the cold seemed to permeate right through. The sleeping bags the team had snagged while scavenging weren’t exactly the most warm or comfortable either, but you made do with what you had.
Ellis glanced at your discomfort, his eyebrows furrowed at the thought of your distress. Lord had he wanted to say something, to get in closer and share the body heat. He stared for a long moment, asking himself if it was a good idea to even ask you. He fiddled with his thumbs for a moment.
Would you think he was weird? Or gross? Maybe even some strange pervert who wanted nothing more than to get in your pants? You’d only just met him after all. He’d grimaced at the thought. Maybe he was being too forward with his suggestion.
He bit the inside of his cheek, laying out his choices. He slid his hat off, his brown curls underneath sprung up slightly, he ran his hands through it, trying his best to look casual and comfortable.
“If- if you’d like ya’ could slip into ma’ sleeping bag.” He mumbled out, just loud enough so you could hear him. His right hand absentmindedly playing with his curls.
“I know it’s cold an’ it ain’t exactly comfortable fer’ me either, so if you’d like-“ he started to ramble on again, luckily you stopped him early this time around.
“That’s.. nice of you Ellis.” You scanned his face and eyes briefly, trying to make sure this wasn’t a dream, or that he wasn’t just messing with you in some sick way. His own darted away from your lingering, hopeful eyes.
“It is really cold.” You added, standing up from your own makeshift attempt at making your sleeping bag more comfortable. A thin blanket lazily thrown inside in some poor attempt at better coverage. Your tired knees popped as you stood, they tensed momentarily. Praying you won’t get a leg cramp from all the running prior to the safe room. Running from tanks and other mutants was not the easiest thing in the world.
You tried your best to move as quietly as possible, picking up your blanket from your sleeping bag for some extra warmth. The lanterns light flickering as you inched past Rochelle and Coach. Nick seemed to be asleep at this point, still in his corner off to the side.
You walked over to Ellis, looking over him momentarily. Even in the dim light, you could see the blush covering his cheeks. His eyes blown wide as his Adam’s apple bobbed nervously. You actually agreed.
He cheered internally, how badly he wanted to just yank you down with him. It was cold as shit. But, he let you come to him, afraid even the tiniest mistake could change your choice.
Only then had you realized you were practically looming over him, you shifted down against him, sliding into the spongy fabric. It was warm, cozy, and inviting. It stretched a bit from both of your bodies, but it seemed to hold. You were flush against him now, able to feel each ridge of his limbs and skin. Although you couldn’t help but admit he did have a bit of a stench, but then again, so did everyone.
You wrapped the thin blanket you’d had moments before around the two of you, settling after a moment.
Ellis snaked a nervous hand around your waist, both face to face for a moment. His own eyes were wide and shocked you’d actually agreed. They’d soften after another moment, his calloused fingers holding you near and dear. He didn’t say much after. His eyes growing tired, a wave of fatigue dawned on him in the comfortable position.
“Now, how’s tha’?” He’d mumble out slightly, his eyes still boring into your own.
“Better.” You replied, inching closer from the sheer warmth of his body, he was almost like a living furnace.
Ellis smiled at that, your limbs were practically intertwined. The boy let out a deep exhale of contentment, he was going to savor this moment as much as possible.
His calloused fingers rubbed your sides calmingly, his breathing and heartbeat lulled you. You’d fallen asleep without issue, body and mind at rest, for now at least.
The next day had many more surprises waiting for you.
After hopping back into Jimmy Gibs Jr’s car with everyone in the morning, you’d traveled down a road for quite awhile. The team goes over their plans once again, to get to New Orleans. Find CEDA, or the government, even though it seemed as if they’d all vanished off of the planet.
Eventually though, the road was blocked by car jam. At least 50 cars right through the path that you needed to pass. The team had to abandon the car, despite Ellis’s grieving over the race car, you had to move along. Right beside it though was a sign that read “Whispering Oaks, amusement park and fairgrounds” on it with a weird looking peanut character.
Now, you’d never visited Whispering Oaks in your life, and it was essentially the equivalent to Disneyland in Georgia. Was as popular as Jimmy Gibs Jr too. Which, coincidentally, was two of Ellis’s favorite things. Not to mention the Midnight Riders were present. So he went absolutely feral when he saw the place, being inside of the amusement park was another story.
The sun was set, casting the whole sky into darkness. Thankfully, the park had some remaining power. The games were still activated, neon multicolored lights illuminating the park. It was bright, beautiful even if you could call it that. It was eerily lonesome though, as most of human life had been eradicated. It was a bitter sight to see, and an even heavier pill to swallow that there wasn’t much of humanity remaining, as much as you hadn’t wanted to think about it.
But a certain voice jumped you out of your thoughts.
“Holy shit, guys! Kiddie-Land!” He’d practically screeched in your ear as he dragged you along behind him. His grip was firm, but soft enough to where if you’d wanted to pull away, you could.
And he expected you to wait with the others and watch his childish reaction, but you actually followed along. Squeezing his hand back even. He felt like his heart was going to burst.
You laughed at his childish behavior. “I’m coming Ellis, slow down!” You’d cheerfully followed, forgetting about your pondering moments before.
