Kaze considered himself a man willing to undertake any task, no matter the conditions or the difficulty involved.  So, despite the rain coming down this afternoon, Kaze took to his duty as he always had before, patrolling the grounds with a watchful eye.  He had brought along an umbrella, but didn’t want to open it so as to not draw attention to himself.

As he was proceeding across the grounds, he spotted a figure in the distance, standing in the rain despite the downpour.  Confused yet suspicious as to why the figure was in the rain without any coverings, he made his way toward the figure, masking his footsteps carefully.

Upon closer inspection, it looked to be his leader, Lady Vanora - or as he knew her, Princess Renka.  He couldn’t understand why she was out in the rain like this, considering no one else was out here.  Still, he should make himself known, since she was there.  He popped open his umbrella and cleared his throat, hoping that would keep his words from startling her.

“Lady Renka?  Is that you over there?”

Kaze nodded as he approached Vanora, resting the umbrella against his shoulder. “Of course, Lady Renka.  I shall always serve to the best of my abilities.”

The moment he was standing in front of her, he bowed deeply, as was customary.  He straightened himself, glancing around the grounds that were slicked with rain.  It would be very rude to pry into her personal choices, but at the same time, it was his responsibility to keep track of everything going on here while on patrol.

His gaze returned to Vanora, holding out the umbrella to her. “It is a very wet today, Lady Vanora.  Your outfit looks positively drenched.  If you wished to spend time out here but lacked an umbrella, you need only have asked for one.”

          The shinobi’s response elicited a faint knowing, relenting smile to curl the corners of the princess’s lips as his greeting was returned with one of her own; if there was one thing she had learned about Kaze quickly, it was that he took his duty very seriously. A patrol even on a rainy day like this was well within normal behaviour for him. Vanora’s gaze followed his as he looked past her to where she’d been idling moments before, but it wasn’t until he made mention of it that the embarrassment at being caught doing something... perhaps questionably unusual kicked in.

          “You’re right... I’m sorry,” she mumbled sheepishly as she stepped under the shelter of the umbrella Kaze was holding; a part of her lamented the absence of the raindrops’ gentle footsteps on her skin. “I... got a little excited about the rain and forgot... I’m sorry for worrying you. Thank you for the umbrella.”

          If she closed her eyes, she could hear it.

          The voice of the rain. The earth drinking deep. The hiss of a hundred thousand droplets striking every conceivable surface was the song of greenery and tree roots rejoicing at the heaven-sent gift; when she breathed, the air felt cleaner in her lungs.

          Vanora had never quite understood where her draw towards water had begun, only that she did. The stillness and silence beneath the surface, when her body felt weightless, and the worries of the world felt miles away... True, she’d caused her servants and siblings no small amount of panic when she used to do that in Nohr, but somehow those periods of solitude made the intense scolding worth it all. The rain was no different, though perhaps not quite as worry-inducing as submerging oneself for well over an hour. Most people remained indoors, where it was warm and dry, so the princess had taken the opportunity to slip out and enjoy the quiet.

          “Lady Renka? Is that you over there?”

          A familiar voice calling out shook the albino from her reverie. Pale blue hues snapped open to the drab grey underbellies of the pouring clouds, then slid to the source of the new sound: a man in greens like treetops shrouded in mist, an open umbrella in one hand.

          “...Kaze.” There was faint surprise in her voice, reflecting the part of her that hadn’t expected him to be out in this weather. It took only a few moments more to deduce the reason for his presence. “...Yes, it’s me.”

          It was only now that Vanora realized that she was drenched from head to sole. Grass and mud squelched beneath her bare feet, telling her that she had been outside for quite some time, yet she made no indication that this seemed to bother her as she made her way towards the shinobi.

           “ ...Were you on patrol?”

I don't normally make request threads like these, but here we go. In light of the recent disasters in NA such as Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Jose to the fires burning in Northwestern US and Southwestern Canada, a lot of people are finding themselves displaced or without internet/electricity. Even for those not in the direct path of these disasters, the secondary effects (high speed wind damage, smoke inhalation, flooding) are displacing a lot of people. Most of them are not focused, if not

FFXIV Producer and Director Yoshi-P here. It warms our hearts to see such an outpouring of support for those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma in recent days. The thoughts and prayers of all of us on the FFXIV development and operations teams are with the people of Texas, Florida, the Caribbean, and the other areas affected by these terrible storms. Many of you have requested that we suspend estate auto-demolition, as players in these regions may have difficulty logging in at this time. The team understands this, and so we have decided to suspend auto-demolition temporarily. Commencement of Auto-Demolition Grace Period: September 15, 2017 Duration: 14 days (tentative) At the end of this two week period, we will determine whether or not it is necessary to extend the grace period, and inform you all of our decision. Furthermore, as more detailed information regarding the situation on the ground in these regions becomes available, we will continue to discuss internally what other ways we may be able to ease the burden on those affected. We pray that the recovery efforts go smoothly, and that those of you who were affected will be able to join us again in Eorzea soon.
