This is another one of these "draw every pokémon" blogs. Inspired by @vivipokedex, please check them out. My main art blog is @frogcroaks.
Not daily, and no order other than how I'm vibing for the day. I don't mind requests at all, but there's no guarantee I'll do it!! If you want to guarantee the next pokémon, you'll have to sponsor the line (aka commission me). its $20 per pokémon in the line, save a few exceptions. If you're interested, feel free to DM me.
Current slots: CLOSED!
If you just like what i do and want to tip me, here you go.
Thats the basics, the read more has more questions answered. Be niceys and have fun looking at my creatures
[Insert any questions about using my art]
You can use my art for whatever you want. If you remove my watermark, I'd appreciate credit somewhere else just because itd be very niceys of you. If you make edits or draw fanart or anything id love to be @'d so i can see because I'm a nosy bitch.
I want to know what [pokémon] is based on!
If you want an explanation of what a certain line is based on, always feel free to ask. I never know how to fit long explanations of my work other than tags.
Why did you draw them like this/[pokémon] is not based on that/you drew them wrong!
It's my blog and I get to make the pokémon look as weird or as silly as I want
If I sponsor a pokémon, can I pick how it looks?
No, it's basically just a fancy way to support me and skip the line. If you're not ok with that, better to just wait for it to come around naturally. I don't draw ocs/fakemon either sorrey.
Can you make them shiny?
Because the way I paint is literally in one layer going crazy bananas, I couldn't do shiny versions for free. My bad. I'm insane. But if you want a shiny version I'd draw entirely new art for the line, I think thats fair. Shinies are sponsor only.
Can you draw [pokémon i've already drawn] again?
If you sponsor it, for sure. As a request its unlikely, id only do it if i was unhappy with the design. Unless its my favorite mon because im biased teehee
Can you draw [beta versions, scrapped pokémon etc]?
Beta versions of pokémon might inspire my design process, so I don't think its worth separating beta versions vs canon versions. I won't be drawing scrapped pokémon as I already have a big challenge ahead of me with a 1000+ pokedex. if you wish to see one, you'll have to sponsor it, sadly.
Can you draw mega evolutions/gmaxes/pokemon forms?
The only forms I'm doing are of base pokémon, and only the most important ones, so no megas/gmaxes unless sponsored. Regional forms are included as they are their own pokémon.
Small aesthetic changes such as alcremie, furfrou, vivillon will not be included, but can be sponsored. Only drastic gender forms will be included (oinkologne, basculegion, meowstic etc). I wouldn't accept other gender sponsors because... well its usually just 2 or 3 pixels of difference lol. Save ur money for something else, unless u just wanted me to draw that line again.
Are all pokémon available to sponsor?
There are some mons I won't accept as sponsors for personal reasons, and i'd rather work on them for free at my own time. If you wish to check, feel free to ask (off anon) or dm me. 98% of pokémon are fine, to be clear.
#566 - #567. Archen cannot fly very well and rely on the air currents of Archeops to stay on air. Revived Archen and Archeops are not believed to be accurate to their ancient counterparts, as DNA gaps were filled with data from other fossils and living pokémon.
Sponsored by @psarahdactyls. Process under cut:
Prehistoric pokemon always have the hiccup of there not being a lot of material to study. Case in point, my archen studies were mostly just looking at what avialae we've have found so far and the paleoart of them, I took down some notes that I #lost oops, and drew a few things before I understood the basic concept of what I wanted to go for here.
After that I took reference images of modern birds and paleoart avialae and concepted a design body type for these two. I like archeops, but my main beef with it is that it looks too much like a Big archen, and that the rock type doesn't really appear much beyond the fact that its a fossil(tm) so it has to have it. I decided to play with mixing it up with other ancient fliers of the era, such as tapejara and gannets for the wing style and a different crest. The idea is that it'd be filling the gaps of a missing fossil.
After that it was just a matter of posing! I wanted them to be flying together, and i tried to make it so the crest texture felt like crystals to justify the rock type beyond them being fossils.
I'm working on the final sponsors, and I might have to warn that the price for sponsors will increase for future batches 💭 not only because I put a lot of effort in studying the subjects I'm drawing, but also because I'm starting to render them with more detail and it takes longer to finish a piece!
I am also thinking of updating my pricing to reflect the complexity of the pokemon, instead of a flat rate 💭 prices are not set in stone, but will most likely be 30$ for small pokemon such as the starters, first forms, babies etc, 45$ for middle of the road pokemon like starters second stages and simpler evos, and 60$ for big boys such as most final stages. Super complex guys like modern cover legends might cost more.
I understand if this makes the thought of sponsoring less appealing!! But unfortunately the prices are not reflecting the amount of effort I put into these drawings 💨 if there's no interest, I'll simply continue drawing in order of ideas/pokémon i want to approach as I used to!
#155 - #156 - #157. The fires of the Cyndaquil line grow bluer and stronger as it evolves. When closer to evolving, Cyndaquils and Quilavas will dig new burrows uninterrupted until it can accomodate their new stage.
Design process undercut
The typhlosion line was one that I've been thinking about for a little bit, and I wanted to redo it as the last time I drew it was all the way over 202..3? 4? I don't remember anymore lul.
I wanted to push both the badger and echidina/tenrec aspects of the line more. I was happy with my first sketches, the idea of the fire coming from specific stripes on the neck and replacing the characteristic badger stripe. Quilava and Cyndaquil were a bit of afterthoughts, but I already had some ideas for them. I don't have studies to showcase this time, because i already studied mustelids a while ago separatedly haha
The main things that changed from concept to sketch phase was that i really wanted to stop doing so many top heavy designs. It's my favorite shape language, but it'd be doing typhlosion a disservice, so I tried to keep the triangular bottom heavy design while keeping my concepts intact.
#848 - #850. It's very hard to differentiate when a Toxel is rocking out or throwing a tantrum. Differentiating between amped and low-key is much easier, however. Amped Toxtricity are more likely to provide vocals for a song, even if they don't sound that good.
Pokémon voted by you guys! Design process undercut ↓
This time, i started by studying the line, because toxtricity felt like a very complicated pokémon whos shapes i didnt understand that well. So i referenced some official art to draw some canon compliant toxes. You can see I didn't handle toxel very well.
Once I kinda figured out what their deal is in canon, I started studying some crested newts to hone down my shapes of the animal, and started throwing shit at the wall when it comes to their design
Honestly, my main struggle was figuring out what proportions i wanted to do and figuring a way to stylize the face that still made them newt like. I also was reallyyyy struggling with the horns on top of the mohawks
Here is where I really nailed the basics of what I wanted. However if you've noticed, my main issue was that not only was i not figuring out toxel, I did not account for lowkey form either. The latter was easy to fix, I just swapped the body type into something thinner instead of top heavy. Toxel however....
I'll be so fr I hated those first passes so bad, because I didnt do any tries beforehand!!!!!! of course it was gonna come bad!!! So i redid them to the toxels that you saw on the main image, and I enjoyed their designs a lot more + the poses were a lot less clunky.
These guys killed me im so dead its over. goodbye im sleeping for 1000 years
First of all, I absolutely love your art. The 'realistic' style of pokemon fanart has always been my favourite, and I really feel you capture the pure animal energy that each pokemon/evo line is based on just so well (vulpix and ninetales are so delightfully slinky like real foxes). So, good work!!
Vulpix/ninetales is my absolute favourite line since childhood (even got a tattoo years ago). The braiding of ninetales tails was something I haven't seen in ninetales fanart, and it was so inspired! Love it 🦊.
I'm sorry if it's already been done/requested, but I was wondering if you'd consider arting the Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales line? I know sponsered spots are full at the moment, but I'd like to make it rain (financially) on the idea when/if slots are open again.
If it's already done/in the works, wonderful! If not, I'll patiently wait to hear for slots to open again.
Thanks again for the beautiful art ❤️
first of all: thank you so much!! thats very kind of you
second of all: i will be doing all regional/convergent forms, yes! i forgot to edit my pinned but i currently have 2 slots open if you want to sponsor the line, but even with no sponsors they will be done when their turn comes :)
#037 - #038. The Vulpix line originates from deserts, and their presence is said to turn any forest they settle in into arid wastelands. To prevent this, people build shrines and place offerings to quell their spirits.
A Vulpix can be aged by the number of tails, but Ninetales's age is determined by the length of their tail braid
Sponsored by @solluxofrose, design process undercut
I know the line is based on red foxes, but i based them on rupell's fox, a thin desert fox species. I decided to start with study their face structure and body shapes to start:
Canines are always super tricky for me, but i really like the shape of these guys and their lanky body structures
I started drawing their designs on digital this time, and while vulpix's was pretty straight forward, I took a bit to figure out the tails for ninetales. drawing 9 tails while still keeping a recognizable silhouette is rough
I decided to go with the braid, as I think it keeps the thin silhouette flowing better, and it felt like an interesting progression to the curled vulpix tail: both pokemon have their tails tied in a way, but vulpix has a more jovial, baby version, while ninetales seems to intentionally tie their tails in a braid as a show of control.
Hey everyone, I took an informal break because I've been doing art fight, commissions, and also studying art a lot! But I'm back :)
I plan on finishing a sponsor and then posting some guys again. I am also additionally open for sponsors of lines again, if anyone is interested (just dm me).
HEY I love your art!! Here is some fanart(/fan craft?)! The logo sort of got obscured, sorry about that, but I put your handle in the “illustrated by” section too!
not dead, just worked on some owned stuff over my main + furry adopts + been having fun w ocs. if u want a sneakpeek of whqts coming next u can check the read more
ok swag read more sweep. I'll try to update the first three designs I've made to have their inspirations on a read more for people to have easy access to them
Late reply, I forgot that houndoom wasn't one of the pokémon I put the explanation on the post itself. I should probably edit the older mons to have those huh.
The concept idea for houndoom was pretty straightforward: a hellhound that actually looked like a goat. With that, I could tie in devil/hellhound imagery and wolf in sheeps clothing
I did some studies on dobermann anatomy to start. I've never been good at dogs to be honest. I actually had to do some extra paw studies because I don't know how to draw them well lmfao
The goat there is a valais blackneck, which I picked as the goat part of houndoom because of its horn shape and the fact they're half black and half white, and I could adapt that into the black and tan coloring of dobermanns
The eyebrows were turned into eyespots for the skull marking in the face, which means i could repurpose the motif on the chest with the dobermann spots Also looking like eyes. I also gave them goat bellies and chests because its cuter. I wanted them to feel like amalgamations and not just dogs with hooves
#007 - #008 - #009 - The tails of the Squirtle line are made of sea foam, storing air for long dives. They prefer staying at shores and spraying water on random passersby for amusement.
Sponsored by @la-bruja. Design process under read more.
So for this line I had three main goals: 1. Add some more aquatic turtle anatomy on the line. 2. Make their shells based on sea shells, so that i can introduce the blastoise cannons as the shells openings, almost like a siphon. 3. the very popular "put that fur back into the blastoise.
So for my studies i started with studying both a turtle with flippers and one without, and then applying those on my squirtles to see which one worked best. To avoid overlap with the titouga line, I decided to go with the snaked neck turtle as inspiration, but i brought some of the pig nosed turtle's nose to the line because its cute
The tails turning into some sea foam-y subsance and the fur ending up looking more like gills came later, to tie down random parts of the design into a more water related theme, instead of it just being a water type because its a blue turtle. also it storing oxygen is a reference to turtles breathing outta their ass btw. they do that
The rest just came from me enjoying drawing turtles and making it as accurate as i could without losing the whimsy
Your current queue is totally full rn so I can't sponsor my babey to skip the line so I just wanted to ask a theoretical! Mostly I wanted to ask how you might address seviper, specifically the fact that it has a knife duct taped to its tail. I could theorise myself (rattlesnake... Ish?) but you sound like you know more animals
I have drawn seviper before, and I've kept the blade tail before! I'd probably keep it again, but flair it up
