“Oh! Oh! I’d be a Zygarde hero, just like Squishy! Clemont could be a Dedenne hero and we could protect the city together with Blaziken Mask, just like a superhero family!” She paused after that, a small frown forming. “You should be one too, but there can’t be two Blaziken heroes…”

“Denene.” Whatever Dedenne said, Bonnie couldn’t understand, so she just assumed it was agreeing with her. 

“Maybe you could be an Ampharos hero! Oooh, or Chespin! Then our colors could match! Do you think you could make superhero costumes for us? Pretty please?”

“Of course!” Says Meyer, although he’s inwardly panicking a little. Does this mean his kids are going to get in even more trouble than they already do? Not that he doubts their competence, but... it’s natural to worry about his kids! “Your old man’s pretty good at sewing, you know. I’m sure you two would make great heroes!”

Two Blaziken heroes... he can see how making himself another costume and having another “superhero” identity would get very complicated, very fast. He’d always been meaning to tell his kids about his secret identity someday... whenever “someday” was. 

... Now that he looks again, Dedenne’s stare looks a little judgmental. Perhaps the time has come to tell? What is he afraid of? What kind of a father lies to his kids, anyway?

“... Bonnie,” he says, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I think there’s something I should tell you.”

“Whoa, you did!? That’s amazing, it looks just like the real thing! I bet even Clemont couldn’t make one that looks this close to it!” The child’s eyes lit up with excitement, but the Dedenne sitting on her head didn’t look as impressed.

“Yeah, I did!” That part, at least, is true. He did make the mask himself, after all. “And I don’t know about that. Your brother is pretty good at making things! Though if he were to make a superhero mask, it’d probably be based on an electric Pokémon. What kind of Pokémon hero would you be, Bonnie?”

For some reason, Dedenne seems to be giving him a strange look, but he ignores that as well. It’s not like the Pokémon is actually saying anything to the contrary, right?

“Dedenne found it in your room.” She just stares up at her father, head tilted to the side. “Are you sure you don’t know anything about it?”

“W-Well... I’m... a really big fan of Blaziken Mask! So I made my own mask just like his!” The back of his head is starting to feel a little sweaty. He ignores it.

It’s utter chaos in Lumiose at the moment, and he wonders, vaguely, if anyone but a handful of children (too young, far too young, they could be hurt, they could–) and a scant few emergency personal will be coming to their aid. “Hero” he may be, but he has no illusions about his own limits when it comes to a disaster of this magnitude, and he knows that they desperately need all the help they can get.

For now, the only thing he can do is lead his (stubborn, far too stubborn) children and their friend into the heart of the city and hope that he and his partner will be enough to protect them from whatever is waiting for them there.
