All Janet could do in response was shake her head and laugh. She knew Lenora wouldn’t have been able to express herself like this in front of just anyone, so Janet took a moment to appreciate how damn cute she was before she lost the opportunity. “Yeah. Gracefully, she says. Gracefully as in how I landed with a loud thud and stopped breathing for like five seconds… because that’s fuckin’ graceful, Lenora,” she continued to tease her making sarcastic comments. “I know, my career is definitely a highlight in my life I need to be focusing on. Honestly, if I didn’t have to go tour around half the world most of the time, I would be living here if I wanted to. Besides, I’m not as big as any other rockstar. The band? Well, my drummer, Sean, recently got an offer to play for a small tour for up and coming rock bands, so he’s doing great. My bassist, Freddie, is doing alright, has a new boyfriend that’s hopefully not gonna last less than two weeks. And Kevin… there’s really nothing new about him or else I’d be informing you right away. He’s like my brother… well, except for the time where we dated for three years, but that’s something we both agreed to never speak of again to each other. Plus, you’ve known him as long as I have, although you’re not as close to him,” Janet said as she rambled about the men who ran her band. They were all like her secondary brothers to her apart from her own little brothers back in Salem. Of course, Janet adored Darrell, Derek, and Jack way more than her own band, since she had been with them the very start of their lives. At some point in time, Janet had thought about how her hanging around the band was affecting Lenora. Would she have been happy for her? Was it a positive reaction or negative? Of course, she would never know. Janet had been using groupies, marijuana, and her own problems to cope with her inner demons of feeling alone. Every time she would hook up with a woman, it always had to be in the form of a tall blonde, no brunettes, no redheads, solely blondes, and Janet knew exactly why she was interested in that type of woman but didn’t want to admit it for herself. Janet gave the other woman a warm smile and waited patiently for her best friend to climb in bed with her. “You know me, unfortunately, my patience level is extremely low. It’s always as if I’m impatient about something every day of my life. What? So you’d leave me as a chaperone? I worry about Zack enough as it is! Having to deal with more kids would worry me in losing them. Wouldn’t the whole follow-the-leader scheme work for them to comply anyways?” she asked curiously. Once the two were comfortable, Janet’s eyes never left Lenora’s sight, taking in every inch of her. Over the years, she had gotten more beautiful, so for Lenora to say that to her made Janet’s heart flutter and her stomach turn. Janet didn’t pay attention to the fact that Lenora was slightly joking around, so she responded with much sincerity, “I don’t need to. You’re… You’re perfect in every way. Just.. beautiful.”
Listening to the details of the lives of Janet’s band, Lenora had to wonder what exactly went on when you were a rockstar. Was it like the movies? Was it all drugs and sex and booze? She didn’t see Janet any different than the girl from her childhood, but she certainly wasn’t the same. Was she? The same, yes, but not quite. Lenora couldn’t put her finger on it. She was curious if Janet felt the same staring back at her. Except the look in the other woman’s eyes never wavered. An unfiltered love and devotion that Lenora searched for her whole life. It was the very look her parents gave to one another. “I’m glad Sean’s got the offer. But I’m not sure if that means he won’t be playing much for you?” she checked, eyebrows knitting together and willing Janet to decide on whether her reaction was a positive or negative one. “Freddie will find himself his soulmate. In time. Might not be this one, or it might be. But he will,” the blonde added with a smile to her face, a hopeful one for the man. Even if he might’ve not been looking for that at the time. She wasn’t too sure if he was as hopeless of a romantic as she was, after all. He could very well be enjoying his fame and groupies, and passing boyfriends. “Yeah I figured about Kevin. Just thought I’d ask,” Lenora continued on with a small chuckle. How could she forget their affair for three years? It was a wild one. And one Lenora tried to push away from her memory, no matter the amount of times it was brought up in conversation. “Are you...dating anyone right now?” The last she had heard, her best friend was currently single. However, these things changed in a matter of hours. You never could predict who you’d run into - and fall in love with. Just the other day, Lenora had swooned over the man who worked at the local florist shop. But just like all her brief daydreams of being in love with someone she merely passed by, the image disappeared as soon as he rang her up and she exited the shop. Giggling now at the idea of Janet playing chaperone, the daycare teacher nodded her head next to the brunette. “Oh you’d be surprised. They’re not that...robotic. They don’t just fall in line when you need them to.” Noticing the look again, but louder somehow, in Janet’s eyes, Lenora shifted slightly in the bed, “Am not.” Despite her shy behavior, flattered was the correct tone in her voice. She moved closer, bumping her nose against the other woman’s arm, before resting a hand flat against Janet’s shoulder. Her face slowly rose to peek back up at her best friend - a careful and hesitant expression flickering across her features. Until a smile flickered too and she leaned up to sneak a small kiss to Janet’s lips, lingering in the proximity for a moment, “Sorry...” Her voice was barely a whisper, a confused one at that. “Um... Don’t know why I did that, sorry.” She shook her head until some blonde strands fell in front of it, hiding her embarrassed smile.
Date night in a jar
(Could be altered to be best friend dates in a jar)
I used big popsicle sticks and spray painted them different colors. Each color represents a different type of date (and each color is explained on the tag) and the white sticks were used as fillers.
Red sticks have more expensive dates on them that require planning on our part.
Bed and Breakfast
Dinner at a fancy restaurant
Hotel stay for the night
Auburn home game and away game
Concert and dinner (his choice)
Concert and dinner (my choice)
Weekend away
Coupes Massage
Dark pink sticks have “at home” dates:
Chopped Challenge (like the television show on FoodNetwork)
Fondue and Almost Famous
Takeout and board games
1,000 piece puzzle and pizza
Football game and nachos
Popcorn and a chick-flick
Crosswords and breakfast for dinner
Make a dessert together
Friday Night Lights marathon
Homemade pizzas and an Italian movie
Light Pink dates have things we can do away from home but are less expensive than the red and don’t require as much planning.
Dinner and a movie (my choice and his choice)
Laser tag and go carts
Mexican night at Cocina Superior
Drive-In date
Dessert only date
Window shopping for the house
Bowling
The Melting Pot
Coffee Date
this is gonna come in handy for all the not dates i’m going on with all my not girlfriends

Janet still couldn’t believe that she could finally call the woman of her dreams her own. Even though they were so close and had known each other for so long, she felt like there was something that wasn’t fulfilled between the two of them. There was an unending bond of love with her and Lenora, and Janet was more than ready to take their next step. Now that they were together, it made Janet feel like nothing in the world could ever bring her down. Everything that had come out of Janet was genuine and real, nothing fake. “What is there to surprise me with? I know you well enough that I can surely kick your behind in Mario Kart! You’ve been practicing, huh? Fine, we’ll see who can really claim defeat in the end,” Janet said with a smug smirk and winked competitively. Of course from the way they have been acting in the store, most people’s eyes were on them seeing the new lovers interact. Janet didn’t care considering she was used to receiving attention and she was too excited and happy to pay attention or embarrass herself. The fact that she could claim Lenora as her person made her heart flutter among other things. With a gentle squeeze of her hand, Janet reassured her girlfriend that everything was alright no matter what she did. Nothing would ever make her uncomfortable. Janet watched as Lenora placed the gaming system and the game inside the shopping cart and said, “Of course he will. This is mainly Zack’s gift. Four works! That’ll be enough for my siblings to get their hands on too whenever they come visit.” Upon the mention of Lenora asking about Zack having a boyfriend or girlfriend, Janet chuckled. “He’s only six, Lenora. Kids don’t usually push that boundary until 15 or 16… unless holding hands at recess and giving each other flowers is considered dating. Hmmm I wouldn’t do that, be wary of the other moms. They might kick your ass later,” she warned. Seeing Lenora get nervous, Janet wrapped her arms around the woman’s torso and laid her head on her shoulder. “How about we let that topic slide until the time comes, baby. He’s just a kid. Besides, all he needs right now is happiness and love. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“When will the siblings come to visit? Oh wait - probably for Christmas and Zack’s birthday? I would hope?” she checked, unsure of what their plans exactly were for the holiday. All she knew was that she had practically denied any rock tours or travels on the brunette’s part. December would be their little family’s month, and Lenora wasn’t going to have it any other way. “I would say I’d cook something for dinner that day, but maybe it’s best we just do takeout. So the Thanksgiving fiasco doesn’t happen again.”
Realizing it was a little early to give a six year old the birds and the bees talk, Lenora nodded her head along with Janet’s logic. Frankly, she was all too happy to take the option of not telling him just yet. Zack was too pure for it. He still liked to cuddle his stuffed toy duck. And go to the zoo. And watch cartoons on the television. And hopefully, he’d never outgrow those things. But, Lenora figured, he might as he became more of his own person. “Ooh, you’re right. Definitely don’t want to draw on the wrath of the PTA moms. They scare me sometimes. They’re so skilled with their cutlery.” At this, the blonde giggled and let herself relax into Janet’s embrace. It was the most secure place she had ever known, and she never wanted to leave it. “Sooo, what do you want for Christmas, hm?” Lenora asked with a playful voice, taking on an edgier approach if only to mess with her girlfriend. She kissed the other woman’s cheek cutely, but wiggled her eyebrows suggestively - if only to grin after.

First song to come on your shuffle that makes you happy – why does it make you happy? How can this song not make you happy, as most Jack Johnson songs do? Life is a piece of shit, but everything he says in this song just takes you away and makes you think of life as this ideal carefree romance. And when this song turns on, he has a way of making you believe everything he’s saying. He makes you think it’s possible. Props to Soph for showing me Jack Johnson! One day I’ll learn to play this. I may be 40 but it will happen!

“What kind of question is that? Of course it’s not bad! Hell, I wanted to buy this the minute I laid eyes on it,” Janet answered the blonde as the two joked around in the toy store. Since Christmas and Zackariah’s birthday just so happened to land on the same day, the rock star was eager to spoil the little boy with as much gifts as she could get him. “But it’s his birthday! And Christmas! Zack deserves all he can get on his special day. Hmmm.. it wouldn’t count if I wasn’t in on this. That’s it, we need to buy Mario Kart along with this so I can kick your ass,” she teased nudging her girlfriend. Girlfriend. Janet repeated that word over and over again. She still couldn’t believe it finally happened. She won Lenora’s heart in more than just a platonic way. Her 20 year journey of trying to make her the love of her life was finally over and she wasn’t planning on letting the woman go. For years, Janet had suffered from mass depression and anxiety, and no matter what she had done or encountered, nothing would make her feel whole, except for Lenora. She was her source of light in her life, and the fact that she agreed to take their relationship to a new heights made Janet’s depression slide away. It only had been a mere 3 to 4 weeks of their newfound relationship, but it was the best 3 to 4 weeks of Janet’s life. The rock star had gotten distracted shopping until she felt the other woman’s hand touch her flesh. It immediately made her entire body burn with desire as Lenora had never done something like this before. Without hesitation, Janet reached out her hand to take the other woman’s and hold it tightly. “I don’t know, we might be,” she said with a wink and a smug smirk.
Something Lenora could get over was how Janet made her smile. And laugh. It came so easy. She always forgot the feeling anytime the rockstar was away. Having to force a grin with a parent or two at work, or a stranger that hit on her at the most inconvenient of times, or when someone would ask about Zack’s father. But the smile she wore now was very real, as was the slight giggle that followed after, “Don’t knock me out of the ring just yet. I might surprise you with my Mario Kart skills. Sometimes the older kids are allowed to bring in their games and I’ve been practicing.” She nudged the shorter woman back with her shoulder, cutely so. They must’ve looked like new lovers; everything about the way they interacted screamed it. Which only served to make Lenora blush and duck her head, shaking away the idea that she had finally found her person. Or, well, Janet had always been her person. But now she was her person. It made better sense in her head. The blonde’s eyes flickered between their hands and Janet’s eyes, and her blush deepened a little more. A shy and lighthearted chuckle followed in pursuit as she put the box into the shopping cart, “Welp! Wii U and Mario Kart it is. I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of it as much as we will. And three controllers for good measure. No, four. In case he brings over a little friend.” She paused after having said that and widened her eyes back at Janet, “Oh gosh, what’s the age kids start having boyfriends and girlfriends? He’s 6, so... We have a few years, right? I will drag a girl out of my house by her pigtails if Zack is ever hurt.” Noticing a few people looking over at them, Lenora lowered her voice with slight embarrassment, “Okay, not that. But I will! Or a boyfriend. Both. He could be bi. I’m not sure. -- Do we give him the talk already?!”
