"I went through this door every day that I went to work at the Hippodrome. It was my gateway into local theater."
Picture by Zac Lawhon, Baltimore resident for 4 years.
Even though I'm not technically within the age limit, I felt like submitting a couple of the pictures I've taken to this blog while I'm in the process of inviting different schools in Baltimore to be a part of the competition. If you're interested in submitting and are over age 19, I'd be happy to feature you here. If you are between 13 and 19, and want to be part of the free photo contest, e-mail your picture to [email protected]
Contest Rules
Using your own camera—whether it’s an iPhone, digital point and shoot, or traditional SLR—document your unique point of view of the city. Show us something interesting about the city: where do you go to feel safe? What is the best thing about being in Baltimore? What about the city makes you laugh, cry, or feel proud to be Baltimorean? These are just a few ideas, and you're welcome to come up with your own.
Official Rules: The contest begins Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11:59 pm and ends on September 23, 2011 (all submissions must be postmarked by this date.) All entrants should be Baltimore residents between 13 and 19 years old as of Monday, June 13, 2011.
How to Enter: The entrant must provide by mail one entry packet, which includes: ---One 8” x 10” photographic print that depicts a unique perspective of Baltimore, and that photo must have been taken by the entrant. ----Lens On Baltimore Contest Form A ----An artist statement describing the picture, 3-5 sentences long. ----Optional: a self addressed, stamped envelope, if the entrant would like the photographic print returned. Any photographs submitted without a self addressed, stamped return envelope will be considered property of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and Arts.
Selection of Winners: ----On or around October 1, 2011, submisions will be subjected to a jury of three people: a local Baltimore photographer, a BOPA official, and a local high school teacher that will judge photographs based on Originality, Expression, and Technical Skill. They will select 35 pieces to be framed, and those artists will be invited, along with their family and friends, to a juried exhibition on October 7 of their work at Top of the World in the Inner harbor. The top 3 picks will get to keep their framed artwork and will also receive gift certificates to a local art supply store.
Prizes: ---- 1st place: Framed artwork, and a $100 gift certificate ----2nd place: Framed artwork, and a $60 gift certificate ----3rd place: Framed artwork, and a $40 gift certificate
