#nationalmentoringmonth Our brother @ltmikenypd doing what he does...engaging the community and breaking down barriers. Here are his words... I remember this day as if it was yesterday. I had been mentoring AJ for over a year, visiting him at Marcy Park and playing ball with him and his friends. During that time I had struck up a friendship with his father via social media and over the phone. The mutual respect between us had grown immensely over the course of several months and this was my first time meeting AJ’s Dad, Antwan, in person. This video of “The Hug” as I call it, says it all. I swear neither one of us wanted to let go. The emotion was overwhelming and if I wasn’t in public I probably would’ve 😭 🙌🏼 •••••••••• I am super thankful for my position in the police department because without it I probably would’ve never met AJ, Antwan or former NBA player @jamel530 who’s also seen in this video. So right after Saturday's success...we kept the momentum going. We conducted another LEO Hearted Mentorship Services Orientation/Training. Help me welcome these officers to the #LHMS team. They have volunteered to join us and help mentor youth involved in the criminal justice system.
