It’s not like she planned her current predicament, but the heavens had a funny view on the subject matter of her life. It was supposed to be a light journey, just a quick survey of the ruins of a temple dedicated to a god since lost to the eons of time. The forest area was unsettled, but the rumours of the temple's existence plentiful. Between the literary analysis of past texts and common hearsay, it took her less than a week to locate it. The heavens though, as previously established, had other plans.
An Chenwu studied the bladesmithing of the sword, the type of engravings on its hilt. That sword didn't even match the age of the ruins, much less its origin. She'd even inspected the area previously with her qi, not a trace of any past cultivators to be found. Incredulity aside, it remained a fact that as she was leaving, a dagger flew out of nowhere and attacked her while she was caught unaware (mistake number one).
The blade piercing her stomach and the mangled mess that were her legs were the larger concerns. Questions on the sentient dagger could wait later. With gritted teeth she ripped off a sleeve to control her blood loss. Closing her eyes, she rested her hand against the ground, passing through qi to reorient herself again. Human settlements always followed the flow of water, she just needed to survive until then. When she felt soil turn into sand and the outline of erected posts, she stood up, leaning against Danxia like a crutch, and limped off.
Her pain was irrelevant, her exhaustion too. She needed to find someone, something, and fast. Perhaps her prayers were received; she felt distant footsteps come her way.
When they — a fellow cultivator, judging by their qi — approached her, she points at all her injury points then at the dagger still embedded on her side as an explanation. She looks up to the person: the face of a stranger. But- that jade waist pendant...
Her heart stuttered. No, that person could not have died, she would have otherwise heard of it. It couldn't have been stolen either, it was too obscure for it to be recognised. In that case, it could only be him.
How dare he show his face.
Never mind the throbbing pain, all she could now feel was rising rage. Fumbling against Danxia, she turned back. As if to rebuke her for the loss of control over her emotions, An Chenwu felt a crack in her foundation. She hissed, drawing in a sharp gasp of air as the pain intensified. It was all his fault, this, everything. She needed to get away from him, she didn’t know if her cultivation could survive staying in his proximity.
Her escape was in vain, for her knees gave way and towards the ground she fell.
Wang Jianglin, such a weird name to him. He had been using it since coming down to the sects, but it never felt him. Jianglin just kept walking through the forest. He didn't really have an end game of where he was going, or what he was doing. There were days where he decided that he just wanted to take a breather. It wasn't often, but today was one of those days.
For some reason, today Chenwu was on his mind. He wondered what she looked like now. Did she sound the same? Would she remember him? And most importantly. Would she hate him? Jianglin breathed in just as he heard the sound of a dagger being thrown in the wind. He instantly had himself on the defensive. While he was a great healer, he knew there were certain wounds he wouldn't be able to heal on himself, and he refused to die here.
As he continued to walk cautiously, he stumbled upon an injured female and she looked as if she was trying to ask for help. He allowed his eyes to follow where she was pointing and quickened his steps towards her. "You're injured!" ( obviously ). He esclaimed just as he noticed her backing away. "Hey! Wait! Let me help you" His actions surprised him. Jianglin wasn't someone who often offered his help to people. Why was he so adamant on helping her?
Chenwu? There was no way. There was no way that she came down to the sects. She hated it down here. Why did it seem like she knew it was him? He looked down and noticed that he had his jade pendant on. That's why. But why would she rather die, then let him help her? Jianglin sighed about to turn away and let her be, but suddenly noticed how she wasn't looking to good. "CHENWU!" he exclaimed dropping his staff and rushing to her, catching her before she hit the ground. "Let me help you, and once I heal you then you can kick my ass okay?" he stated angrily pulling her into his lap and leaning his back against the tree surveying her injury.
He didn't wait for her to respond before gently pulling the dagger out of her stomach and replacing it with his hand. Thankfully he had practiced enough without his staff since the beginning for this exact kind of situation. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as he transferred the power he was able to gather from the tree that he was leaning on into Chenwu. "Take deep breaths, you'll be okay soon." He stated trying to reassure her.
As her wound closed up, he mentally braced himself for what she could possibly do to him. He knew that she wasn't strong enough to really harm him, but it was Chenwu. Just her hating him was enough.

leo grabbed his ball cap and made his way out of his apartment and headed towards the agency, happy to finally make time to see his best friend. he wondered just how she was doing and if there were any updates in her life.

after sending the messages he slid the phone into his back pocket and headed over to the building. as he walked he wondered what show cherry was going to try for. leo wanted to try for the historical drama, but most of his friends were trying for aka. he had to decide if he wanted to go with the grain and try out with his friends and potientally not get a part, or go with something he had never done before? with sd he would have to prepare a role of a royal family. how would that work since he was a chinese actor? possible villian role for the times? the possibilities were quite interesting. maybe his talk with cherry could help him decide.
so he walked into the agency and made his way to the practice room to wait for her.
sometimes cherry felt like their was a bigger chance she’d end up on dispatch with leo rather than her actual girlfriend. cherry and her girlfriend were two girls, so though they couldn’t really kiss in public, they could hang out and hold hands and it would just be considered 'they’re good friends'. leo and cherry are opposite genders though, meaning they’ll have to be more careful when spending time alone.

cherry was excited to see her best friend, though they both were on the acting path now, it still felt like they didn’t get to see each other too often, cherry missed leo, she really did.
leo arrived first like he always did. if he didn't he would usually get annoyed. on his way over he had decided on the casting he had chosen. he was going to go for aka. he knew quite a few people going for the show. leo knew he was a good actor, and that he should have no trouble getting some kind of part. but he couldn't help but be nervous. leo sat down cherry's favorite snacks down on a nearby table and waited for his friend.
when she finally arrived he playfully groaned. "cherry! please tell me you know some kind of gymnastics or something!" he figured if he could make himself agile enough that he would have a better grasp at the combat moves. leo sighed leaning his head against the wall. "save me cherry!" he stated dramatically.

BACKSTORY
zheng yunxi was born in wanzhou to the emperor and his most senior concubine. because of the nature of his birth, publicly his name is wang jianglin ( ranking officals keep their true names secret ).
he didn't have a line to the throne that was for his older brothers ( children of the empress). growing up jianglin was brought up by tutors and nannies, ensuring he wouldn't embarrass the kingdom.
from birth he was engaged to an chenwu (liu yuxi). he never really understood the meaning behind it, but he knew that she would be in his life once he reached adulthood. but life didn't stay peaceful. there was unrest in their kingdom, and the emperor didn't want his sons to be endangered. so jianglin was sent away. sent away to the shadow wood sect. but he had to keep a secret, the secret that he was actually sent away and not that he chose it on his own. ( it would be such a scandal if the emperor sent his son away from the fighting, but he was 10. wouldn't they understand? ).
once he was old enough to get his weapon, jianglin began to strongly focus on training and learning the art of healing. he would read books upon books on how to heal with or without his staff. he knew that he couldn't solely rely on having his staff with him.
during his schooling he didn't particularly go out of his way to make friendships. but he didn't try to be hateful. but he only felt a closeness to his sect. he would often times find himself laughing at the poor souls who decided to try and make deals with them and be ran off by their beast tamers. the looks on their faces would make jianglin's day.
CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES
currently, jianglin has developed to the transcendent realm. he puts much of his focus in his studies and hopes to ascend again. ever since he was sent to the sect under other means, his engagement was dissolved and he no longer had contact with chenwu. chenwu was his best friend, like another part of him. to this day it still pains him to be on the other side of her hate. he knows that he'll never have her heart or her friendship again.
his personality used to be a fun and carefree boy who took his studies and training seriously. he had always been smart / gifted. but now his fun and carefree nature has turned into a grumpy man who just wants to meditate or practice his craft, and those who interrupt him he is very quick to using his magic to make them go away. he cares deeply for people despite his outward demeanor and personality, so if someone comes to him injured he is quick to help. he never wants someone to hurt or die because he didn't do something to help them.

She arched a brow. “I never knew I was one for patience,” Yuxi said coolly, her slide into mock affront a shield for the array of emotions — the good, the bad, and everything in between — she felt in the moment. “It was always the opposite.”
As if the world was hers and she had all the time, and perhaps she did, for who was there to deny her that privilege? Yuxi stared. Stared at the space left of Yunxi’s eyes, close enough to seem like she was still looking at him, far enough that she wasn’t even as their breaths mingled, her fingers searching for and intertwining with his.
Again he ceded the situation to her, control and responsibility in her hands. Objectively she knew it was a terrible idea. If anything, she should be in active discouragement of it. But: Yuxi was only human. She was selfish, restless, arrogance incarnate; she was dazzling and magnetic and acutely aware of it all.
leo smiled. he was finally able to be with his crush. well not crush anymore. now she was his girlfriend and he was over the moon with happiness, and nerves. "come, lets watch a movie. distract you from whatever happened before" he stated, his smile never leaving his face as he squeezed her hand pulling her towards the living area. "so what do you want to watch?" he stated sitting down on the sofa and pulled her softly onto his lap.
"we can watch whatever you want" he stated picking up the remote from the side table and handing it over to yuxi. all he wanted was her happiness at the end of the day. and he would do whatever he had to do, to make that happen. whether it was to go against the company rules, or just watch movies with her.
jinyoung found himself enjoying the classes a lot. he was happy to have received the role in elisabeth but he also was slightly upset it would hinder him from auditioning to project sd. mainly because he really enjoyed the lessons. "us models are only invited to audition for project sd. but I can't audition because my schedule is already too packed. they let sanghyun sunbaenim, jinseo hyung and me attend some of the workshops to expand our skills but we're too busy with our upcoming projects sady," he thus explains to leo, exhaling a soft sigh.
"what about you? you're struggling to make a decision?" the grin on his lips is a tad mischievous but well meaning. perhaps it wasn't so bad the choice was taken from him. at least he had one thing less to worry about.
leo thought his comments through, his smile never leaving his face. "its a good thing to be booked and busy. means consistent money." leo understood how it could be a struggle to not have projects. you had to get your name out there. for him, he didn't need the money. this was basically just a dream he had, but he didn't need it for funds. but he knew that wasn't what it was like for everyone.
"i really like the idea of a historical drama, but i struggle to see how i could be incorperated in it since how would a chinese person stumble in historical korea?" he stated with a chuckle. "but i also really like the idea of the other drama. if its a detective drama, i really want to play either the bad guy or the lead detective" he admitted. but it would be kind of cool to play a victim. but he really wanted to have a great performance. he needed one if he wanted to make a name for himself before the end of the year shows.
You could have scolded me, given me your advice, loved me, hated me. But it shouldn't have been this way. You shouldn't have been indifferent toward me.

she sits on her couch, or well, she calls it a couch but it’s really just mattress on the floor standing where she hopes to get a couch some day. she eats grapes as she watches a show on her computer, the computer of course, standing where she hopes to one day have a tv. her phone blings, and cherry checks her phone.

this season's casting calls were both amazing choices again. it was a good thing that he had time to still choose between the two and was able to talk to his friends on which he wanted to go ahead with. but today was acting classes. no matter how long you have been acting, or how many shows you have participated in you are always able to grow.
"jinyoung!" leo shouted walking towards the entrance of the workshop room. "which casting call are you going to audition for?" he was thinking of going for the first one, because it had a historic feel (even though he didn't know how believable it would be for a chinese person to be in historic south korea). but the second one seemed to be aimed as a detective or crime show. "its such a hard decision!"

leo wasn't known for caring about other people's opinions of him. but that was only to people that he didn't know. he cared about what those around him said. even if it wasn't the best story. he also cared about if they were okay for fans to know about. but the time had passed and he hoped that the fans liked it.
today they were doing an awards ceremony. he didn't think of much of it. leo had way too much on his mind to put any effort in the thoughts. but he had to make the most of any opportunity he was given. he had to show up and accept any award that he was given. and be as much of himself as possible.
he arrived to the venue that they were taping it in one of his favorite suits ready to tape with everyone about accepting the awards. all he had to do, was think of when he accepted his award this year 'rookie of the year'.
half way through was when his turn finally came. he didn't know what exactly his award was so he was surprised when his face appeared on the screen.
"and for the actor who drank the most bitter tea..... Zheng Leo!"
after hearing his name he smiled and walked up to the stage. "thanks for thinking of me for this award! who would have thought that being nosy with my friends and fellow actors would give me such an honor? i'd like to thank most importantly my sister Amelia. and all the actors that are here today. especially my close friends haemin, sujin, and minkyu. thanks for always having my back and saying the best things about me in that episode. the biggest thanks to my mentor jieun, for always giving me advice on my roles. without you my characters wouldn't be as full. thank you everyone for constantly following my career"
leo knew that he probably should have tried to make it funnier, but leo was never good at comedy. he just had to try his best.
despite how she honestly feels, jieun always carries herself with confidence, with the mindset she has what it takes to succeed in anything they throw at her. it's her nature to be competitive and want to prove herself, but the actress reminds herself to tone it down in front of the cameras.
before the cameras start rolling, the actress prepares herself mentally for the next game. she is going over the rules again when she hears a familiar voice. jieun looks up when she hears her name, quietly flashing a smile at leo. "leo, hi!" she greets. "i- let's say i know american movies more than korean ones." it's probably something the other can relate to as one of the foreign actors. "but i know the classics and the new ones. it should be okay... what about you?"
a small laugh escapes her listening to the other's honesty. she shares the same thought though: today, it would be nice to do well as one of the seniors in the company. "if we focus, we have a good chance." she says firmly.
leo had to admit that all the games were fun, even if it was mentally tiring after awhile. being an introvert didn't help things much. "i know more movies that happened in the past few years. if they try to show me things that were shown over ten years ago, i'm doomed." he sighed knowing full well that they would end up showing those to them. he just wanted to make their fans proud.
"if you get to cover the classics we should be fine" he teased. but they were in a group that had plenty of korean born actors. they should be okay. he had confidence in them. "if they have aussie or mandarin movies i got those covered" thankfully he grew up with two different worlds. he figured it would help him greatly here. "jiāyóu!" he stated playfully before making sure his outfit was ready to film.
the surprise of the departure of the actress for ara left leo confused. he was confused on what the scandals were, but knew that it had to be something major for the company to reshoot scenes to keep themselves out of getting into deeper waters. it was what companies had to do. even if public opinion was sometimes cloudy.
leo was called to his manager's office to talk about his feelings towards the situation, what he would do if he were at the center of a scandal, and how he would avoid this situation. this was hitting close to home in some ways. not long before he was sitting in this very office because of his relationship with yuxi.
what would he do if his relationship was made public? how would his fans react to such news? more importantly, how would hers? he knew that being a male, and being an actor gave him more graces when it came to this types of scandals.
leo wasn't someone who was good at these kind of talks. he knew what he had to do, but he wasn't good at putting it into words. "i don't plan on getting into any kind of scandal. especially one like this. everyone should strive to have a good attitude when dealing with the public or with staff." which was true. everyone deserved respect and to be treated correctly. disrespect was something unheard of for leo.
but thinking of the other scandals did make him nervous. were the netzens upset by sohee dating, or was it because the other half of the pair had just gotten out of a long time relationship? he did agree that it was a bit off putting to announce a relationship that close together. while yea, she didn't owe the other person anything. it did make her look like a third party in the relationship.
but leo had no plans to announce his relationship to the public, nor did he believe that he and yuxi would have any mistakes about being seen in public together. but how could he reassure his manager that? he still didn't know what to say. "i will exercise caution" what did that even mean? but that was the only answer he could think of in the moment.
