A drawing for a @huiontablet contest!

I was pleased and excited by the opportunity to work with Huion, who kindly sent me a model of the new Kamvas 16 (2021) drawing tablet to review.

 Being a longtime and faithful Wacom Intuos user, I wasn’t sure how well my style or practice would translate to a different tablet, much less one with an integrated screen that you draw on directly. As it turns out, I needn’t have worried. The precision of the pen on the screen is faultless and follows your movements like a shadow, parallax is nonexistent, and the experience of drawing is as intuitive and easy as anything I’ve used to date. I try to focus on detail and meticulous linework in my art, and the Kamvas was more than capable of keeping up. In fact, drawing straight onto the screen allowed me to get closer and more involved in my work than ever. I use Krita and could tailor the pen settings to my needs with no problems.

The only caveats with the Kamvas for me were the very slight lags - sometimes at the tail end of a long drawing session the pen would skip slightly. The bulk of it was something to note, as well - with the wide 15.6” display the keyboard of my laptop was harder to reach, meaning that for this particular tablet I’d recommend a wide workspace where you can keep your keyboard adjacent to your tablet rather than beyond it. For those who draw for long sessions or those with back pain, I’d also recommend a different type of stand as shown in YouTuber Ahmed Aldoori’s review of a similar make - the accompanying stand lends itself to hunching over it slightly. Not a problem for me personally, as such, but it is certainly something to take into consideration.

Overall, I love working with the Kamvas. It immediately eclipsed my older Wacom, making the prospect of drawing digitally seem brighter and more exciting. The display illuminates every inch of my illustrations and the near molecular pen precision and control offers a sense of command over art I had rarely felt before. It more than makes up for its bulk with the luminance and pixel count of its screen, and the array of easily adjustable settings makes you feel less like some idiot sitting over a tablet and more like you’re tuning a complex instrument. Plus, the experience of drawing straight onto the display rather than drawing downwards on a tablet and looking at your laptop screen are worlds apart. The former is simple and instinctual for anyone used to paper, while the later takes days (if not weeks) of adaptation and practise. The Kamvas 16 is equipment for someone really serious about their art, who wants total integrity and functionality when they draw.

This article will go through the evolution of Huion’s pen technology and give you a perspective of how Huion gradually upgrade its pen technology from 1.0 to 3.0.

First-generation of Pen is a battery pen, first launched on H420. Although it’s easy to replace the battery and a single 3A battery supports 800 hours of continuous usage, the changing process was quite annoying.

The position of the battery breaks the weight distribution of the pen and causes poor user experience.

In 2012.3.30, Huion introduced PenTech 1.1, which upgraded the battery pen to rechargeable pen. The rechargeable is first launched on Model K58. No more battery replacement and a full charge can support 40 hours of usage time.

No more annoying battery changing process, but you still need to charge the battery. The battery still located in the pen, so the heavyweight of the pen will cause fatigue while using.                        

Since you cannot replace the battery, long-period placing may cause the battery to break down.

Huion introduced the PenTech 2.0 battery-free pen in 2017.08.30 and equipped on H640P. The purpose of the new battery-free pen uses Electromagnetic resonance technology and finally gets rid of the constraint of battery.

But the battery-free pen still using the same internal structure of the rechargeable pen, including senor and pen nib shape, which results in longer idling distance and cursor offset on edges of the pen display.    

To achieve a better user experience, Huion brought PenTech 3.0 with the latest pen display KAMVAS 13. The new generation pen use new model of senor. Senor position is lower from 6mm to 3.5mm. Lower sensor position means quicker respond and reduces the idling distance from 0.8mm to 0.3mm. The pen nib shape is also optimized for better accuracy. With the new PenTech 3.0, the pen now follows every pen movement tightly.

How to Solve the Error Code 5 Issue in Driver Installation?

In some cases, users may come across the error code 5 issue when installing Huion driver on Windows. In this article, we will guide you on how to fix this issue.

Situation 1. When you encounter the issue shown below, please adhere to the following steps to fix it.

Step 1.  Click Local Disk (C:) > find the Huion Tablet file.

Step 2. Find the checkWintab32.bat in Huion Tablet file and then double-click to launch the checkWintab32.bat file.

Step 3. Please click the Abort or Retry button, then you can install the driver normally. Remember, please do not click the Ignore button, otherwise, you will be unable to install the driver.

Situation 2. When you come across such an issue shown in the picture below, you can follow the steps below to fix it.

Step 1. Check if Norton or any other anti-virus software is running. If necessary, exit or quit the anti-virus software.

           Method to quit the anti-virus software (Take Norton as an example):

           Click Start >Type Norton and search > Click Uninstall Norton

Step 2. Click Local Disk (C:) > find the Huion Tablet file.

Step 3. Find the checkWintab32.bat in Huion Tablet file and double-click to open the checkWintab32.bat file.

Step 4. Please click the Retry button to install the driver. Remember please do not click the Ignore button, otherwise, you will be unable to install the driver.
