I will talk about mushrooms as my fact.

You can make and use ink from Inky Cap mushrooms, it writes/paints as ink does and you don't need to add much to it. You can add cloves for preservation but it doesn't need anything else, it's a very good dark ink. It does smell like a mushroom, so if you hate mushrooms avoid (the typical rot kind of smell? IDK how to describe it because I don't have a sense of smell but my spouse who hates mushrooms hates it so beware)

They are also edible mushrooms but I always use them for ink.

To make the ink:

Wait for a rainfall near late summer/ early autumn, search the next day for the mushrooms which spring up after the rain.

Gather the mushroom caps not the stems, put the caps in a container and let them dissolve into blank ink!

It takes 2 weeks for the mushrooms to dissolve completely and then voila! Dark mushroom ink!

This likely works with other similar species but I have only tried with Inky caps in Alberta Canada. (Shaggy Manes are the same family so maybe those too?)
