I've been busy recently. But today's for celebrating.
It’s my birthday today. For a while, I thought I'd end up shot, or disintegrated, or erased from reality. But I made it.
I’m celebrating with Penny, Vee, and Babs after work. I don’t think I’ve been this happy in a long time.
The 2025-2026 school year has resumed- so I'm not able to post much anymore with. Y’know. Needing to teach. But as we go into October, I have only one piece of knowledge left to share with you all:
Don’t give in to fear of the unknown. Even when it’s hard, even when your brain struggles not to panic. Rather than cowering from things that go bump in the night, seek instead to hold a torch in the darkness.
It's kind of funny- when you start getting busy with school prep and research, you start having less time to actually update people on what's happening.
So, news for yesterday and today:
- Babs has been given access to the internet, after a very very VERY long talk about safety. They mostly just read through wikipedia articles, moving from the chair to Penny's office and back, because:
- Penny and Vee are still working hard. Apparently, they're going for a nobel prize in physics. Penny even made a joke drawing about it in-between writing.
What’s a spiny lumpsucker? No, it’s not a nickname for your ex: The spiny lumpsucker (Eumicrotremus orbis) is a fish that inhabits parts of the Pacific from the Washington State coast to Japan and up into the Bering Sea. Typically growing only 3 in (7.6 cm) long, it can often be spotted camouflaged in grass beds and rocky areas, avoiding predators such as cod and lancetfish. Its body shape and small fins mean that it isn’t the best swimmer, but a powerful pelvic fin helps this fish stick to solid surfaces, acting like a suction cup to hold it in place.
After a long day, an all-nighter, and so much coffee- Vee and Penny have come to a conclusion.
LEPST are no more dangerous to our continued existence than any other part of reality.
(Penny wanted me to add: "Besides, there's always a chance we could all be wiped out at any given time by a rogue black hole spaghettifying us or something, so. No real point in worrying about it when us existing is a miracle already." She shouted this while rapidly typing on her laptop.)
This is huge, because it means that them existing does not functionally affect our stability in space.
This doesn't take into account the impact on humans, though. People go missing and reappear every day because of the Rifts. People have gotten hurt, people have died.
But it, unlike many other cosmic conundrums, can be reasoned with.
They made the rifts to learn. The more it learns, the less rifts they'll need.
Please take the time to read this- organizations and groups like these are so important for the environment as a whole. No matter how small, every living thing has an impact.
