Hi friends! This is my intro post. Here’s some things you should know about me:

I’m in my early twenties.

I’m American.

I have a history and politics degree.

My interests are Heartstopper, BoJack Horseman, Steven Universe, The Secret History, politics and history, psychology, disability rights, and probably more I’m forgetting to list!

I’m autistic and have OCD, GAD, PTSD, and ADHD.

I’m chronically ill.

I love to read, listen to music, and play ukulele.

My blog is SFW. I discuss sexuality sometimes but nothing explicit. Anyone can follow or be mutuals, but I only want friends who are 18 and up!

My absolute least favorite type of "neurodivergence" (used colloquially to only ever mean "Autism and ADHD") misinformation is the type that posits that being neurodivergent makes you a better person.

"Justice sensitivity" does not mean "neurologically I am a good person who stands up for what's right." It means you have a strong reaction to perceived injustice. But it does not mean your moral compass is calibrated well. The white dudes who are most obsessed with taking away Affirmative Action likely also have "justice sensitivity" -- their sense of injustice is just triggered by something different from what triggers mine, because we have different values. Some people's sense of injustice is triggered by pretty much any situation ever not working out in their favor. Those people can still be "justice sensitive" even if you wouldn't think of them as good people.

Also, there is no neurodivergent condition that makes you automatically capital-H Honest. Some Autistic people aren't good at intentionally lying or find it very uncomfortable to intentionally lie, but others lie just fine and I've met some who did it all the time. "Intentionally lie" is also doing a lot of work here, as you can be very dishonest without intentionally lying if you are prone to lying to yourself, which neurodivergent people are no less likely to do.

There is no neurotype that confers superior moral reasoning or instincts.

Something they don’t tell you about finishing school and getting a corporate job is that it’s hard to adjust to needing to look nice every day.

I got used to rolling out of bed, not doing my hair, and wearing pajamas to class. My office doesn’t have a strict dress code, but I still need to look put-together all the time. It’s extra energy.

ultimately the best way to prevent abuse is to organize society in such a way that everyone's needs are met wothout having to rely on a parent or employer or boyfriend or any one individual. obviously wont stop, like, manipulation or so on, but the ability to dangle basic needs over someone's head is one of the most powerful and consistant tools of abuse out there. if someone is able to just leave, and know that they will have access to food and shelter and clean water and education, that will enable so, so mamy victims of abuse to do just that.

The most annoying job hunting experiences I’ve had since graduating:

- Hiring manager offered me a job during the interview and gave me papers to sign, then emailed me a few hours later rescinding the offer because he needs to interview some more people.

- Getting ghosted when I try to set up an interview. This has happened with 5 companies. They tell me they want to speak with me, I respond quickly with my availability, and then the hiring manager disappears.

- Getting ghosted after almost every interview. Only one company I interviewed at sent me a rejection letter, and that was after my third round of interviews with them.

- Those fuck ass personality tests with 100 questions.

- Rejection for being “overqualified”

- “Entry level job, requires 5 years of experience and a degree, pays $15 per hour”

In my late teens and very early twenties, I was chasing a sense of normalcy. I desperately wanted to overcome being the quiet kid and get the “college experience.” I partied and drank too much, and I had a lot of toxic friendships because I needed to be liked. But I could never fully shed the awkward girl image.

Unmasking has made me realize that I actually am boring and nerdy deep down. I want to embrace being a chill person who would rather stay home and read books, but I don’t know how because I’ve been trying to change myself for so long.
