Since the duffels didn’t even view her as a real person and just a plot device, a lot of people struggle with drawing or writing her doing things she likes so here is a list of interest or things I think El would have loved :)

Strawberry flavored lipgloss, Wonder Woman comics, iridescent stickers, watching old romance films (Aubrey Hepburn is her favorite actress), math, arts and crafts, scrapbooking, roller skating (before Angela), Madonna, playing charades, the color purple, physical touch, colorful clothing, slouch socks, collecting hit clips (she made it to the 2000s idc), Walking into a Sketchers store in the mall with Max just to fill her purse up with the free gum balls, raspberry pie, dipping her fries in strawberry ice cream, playing the piano, Valentine’s Day, stealing Hopper’s old cassette tapes and recording radio music over them, Karaoke, sewing (Joyce taught her), music boxes, Cyndi Lauper, Sprite, seeing babies in public, diorama making, cuffing her jeans, making forts, and bowling.

the noise that audience made when maya put will and mike under “cutest couple that never was” lives rent free in my brain because, from a film and tv perspective, that is the clearest possible indicator of general audience expectation. you don’t get that kind of palpable, unanimous reaction unless the text has been building a trajectory people subconsciously recognise. that’s storytelling language 101.

and honestly? the duffers fumbled history. i’m not being dramatic, i’m being academically accurate. they set up a romantic arc, primed the audience for it, and then acted shocked when people responded to the emotional grammar they themselves established. it’s wild to watch a show undermine its own cinematic logic like that.

I think it would have been more iconic if Kali and El hatched a secret plan to create an illusion of them running into the portal and then the military followed in after them and then the bomb went off. Maybe one sole survivor from the government or whatever to “confirm” that the girls died. And then Kali and El tell the group that they’re going to lay low for a few years and travel and finally get to live. If they had fixed Mileven they could have even had a “Meet me in Montauk” -esque moment but as like a promise for the future.
