biologicial essentialism is not when someone says "vaginas are a female sex characteristic" or "men generally have broader shoulders than women". biological essentialism is when you ascribe character traits to a person based on their biological sex. what is truly biologically essentialist is to claim that "women are better caretakers because they give birth" or that "men are more suited to leadership roles than women are because they are naturally more intelligent". that is actual biological essentialism. so bizarre how this system of gender (called gender identity) wherein you don’t know anyones until they tell you and it can literally be anything (omnigender, icegender, etc) and pronouns can be anything (xyr, fer, etc) just based on whatever the person wants it to be and it can change at any time was entirely created in the last few decades and it hasnt existed in any culture throughout human history and yet theres this idea that its a fundamental part of human existence, intrinsic to human nature. and so people literally pretend like cultures excluding gender role nonconforming people is the same thing as what we call a ‘gender identity’ today even though they are so clearly different. like we are literally rewriting both history and current reality. it’s bonkers

Feminist literature needs more imagination and reach. So many feminist books, films and TV shows have women suffering from misogyny and showing her suffering as worthy of being acknowledged but don't think beyond that. We see women escape a bad situation but we rarely see what happens after that. What does liberation look like? What does a world where women have full autonomy and realised potential look like? Where are the stories of women having completely self contained lives without men at all? Stories of girls who aren't crushed and oppressed and forced into rigid roles and just get to live as kids?
