I do have to enjoy the absolute comedy of queer as a sexuality term. "What is your orientation?" "I don't know, I feel like something weird and strange, I guess I'm an abnormal freak of some sort" and they also tried convincing companies and brands that this was politically correct in the 2010s which was even more hysterically funny

I am still amazed at how well they hold up for just being 'kids books.'

Not to mention how genuinely *good* they are- the power of love and goodness, and overcoming grief and loss.

Harry Potter is deep! It's complex and presents deeply flawed characters struggling with impossible moral choices and doing the bests they can, sometimes failing. It's a satire of British politics, class, and society. It's an examination of bigotry and how ruling classes benefit from enabling it. It's brimming with themes of coping with death and mortality and grief. It's peppered with examples of human fallibility. The heroes do stupid, shitty things and grown and learn from them. It seamlessly weaves in world mythology.

And the storytelling is gripping enough to have captured multiple generations and become inextricably part of wider culture. Anyone who says Harry Potter isn't good is bitter and fooling themselves and possibly illiterate.
