In the night, growing slowly, strangely, from girlhood to womanhood, she would sneak down those hushed green paths to find her brother in the dark, and remember how to be wild again. [ x ]

The Hunters of Artemis are maidens that can be mortal, demigod, or nymph. Each Hunter has sworn loyalty to the virgin goddess Artemis, to join her in the Hunt and reject men for the rest of their lives while also becoming immortal as long as they don’t break their vows. But they are not fully immortal. They can still die in battle.
Small wonder that Trojans and bronze-greaved Greeks have suffered for such a woman, she is so like an immortal goddess.

Hear me, O Goddess, when to thee I pray, With supplicating voice both night and day
And, ever present, be thy votaries aid, O, much implored, art’s parent, blue-eyed maid.
