i think everyone would be happier if chappell roan and muna had swapped amounts of fame. chappell is wildly talented but afaik she was not intentionally pursuing Main Pop Girly status, she was pursuing hayley kiyoko/king princess/girl in red/etc. gay famous status where a devoted army of lesbians would sell out the fillmore for her but she could still go to the grocery store. muna meanwhile call themselves The Greatest Band In The World in an only slightly cheeky way (and they're right). they're ambitious. they're stadium rockstars. they held their own at the damn eras tour! there's a world where tswift let them open for her in places where they were actually appreciated and not like. kansas city. and they ricocheted to global stardom. but unfortunately that is not the world we live in.

i liked self-made boys but i do feel like putting it in the "remixed classics" series and thus making the characters teenagers made it lose a lot because the thing about the great gatsby is that when you get down to brass tacks it is about being insane in your twenties. you're all "adults" but some of your friends are having babies and others are getting scarily conservative and still others have incredibly successful careers or are just scraping along and all of you feel like frauds and you grew up too fast and now you're expected to inherit this world that's changing so much and so quickly you don't even recognize it. and most of you are bisexual

I wish I could find the original post but many years ago I was crashing at a high school friends house and he had me sleeping on some couch cushions that unfolded into a “bed,” except the cushions kept shifting and separating as you slept on them. So I had this elaborate dream that everyone on the planet had at some point been forced to sleep at my friends house, and the situation with the cushions separating was a single common experience that every living human had. And world peace was achieved through a movement called “push them together,” accompanied by a motion like pressing your open hands together as if to pray. Rock stars were doing it on stage, politicians were signing historic peace accords and doing the “push them together” motion, it saved the whole world
