best piece of life advice when you want to change a bad habit: you cant remove something without replacing it. otherwise, you'll leave a hole that needs filled.
you want to distance yourself from that friend and interact less frequently? get closer with other friends, and talk with them more.
you want to drink less gatorade/soda? start drinking more water or tea.
you want to play less video games? play more card or board games.
you want to eat less junk food? cook more home meals or go to better restaurants where you can.
energy cant be created or destroyed, and that applies to your habits too.
Also, look to see what unmet need you're trying to fill with whatever it is. (There almost always is at least one.) Are you bored? Lonely? Looking for meaning and purpose in your life? Dealing with unresolved pain from your childhood? If you're bored and lacking in mental stimulation, there are lots of ways to fix that. Go to the library and check out a new book. See if there's a guest lecture at a local college or university that's open to the public, on a topic you may be interested in. Go someplace you've never been before (or haven't been to in a while). Take a class. If you're lonely, find ways to meet and connect with people. (Preferably in the offline world, but if virtual is all you are able to do, then work with what you've got.) Join an intramural volleyball team. Volunteer. Find a support group. Join a band or chorus. Join a book club. Your community doesn't have a club for something you're interested in? Start one!
