Dirty Dancing Review (SPOILERS!)
itâs a classic, so i wonât touch on it much. iâm scared of straight people already, but iâm super scared of messing with THEIR movie.
i was going in, knowing this is a âclassicâ and I wasnât disappointed by the most of it. johnny starts out hating baby, and thatâs how i expected it to be. i was also freaked out about their age gap. i know it scares many others, but i just couldnât enjoy the movie because my head was ringing about how wrong this was.
i could watch most of it, no problem. but around the part where they start to see each other as lovers, i had a sinking feeling in my chest. i knew it wasnât right. a good movie shouldnât make me cut off the vcr.
iâm no movie critic, but i have a few specific genres i tend to stick to. the genres being: historical-ish movies (The Scarlet Pimpernel, for example. i donât take in as many from this genre because most of them are just Jane Austin done over), war movies (Saving Private Ryan, and such,) gang movies (The Warriors ((1979)), The Outsiders, etc).
i love silly little movies like these, but i just cringe at the thought of romance. i know i sound like a âpick-me,â but you have to understand, not everyone likes romance as a category. not to play with labels a bit much, but iâm aromantic. iâve always felt uncomfortable around romance in general. even when i was a young girl.
although i didnât like the romantic elements, i did, however, thoroughly enjoyed this movie for just the dumb humor. regardless of the plot being centered around the romance, the movie still found ways to be funny about it. and the music, obviously, was top notch, too. i could not tell you how much i was vibing.
this may be a terrible review, but i wrote it from the heart. the movie is memorable, but the music is more memorable to me than anything.
any comments, questions, recommendations, hate, etc. is appreciated. i like it when people tell me things, so please, tell me! i would really love it. thank you for reading this extremely long post, goodbye.
