"I am not wearing that."
"Molly, love, my mum made that dress. I’m not asking you to wear it for the rest of your life, just to this party. Please? It’d mean a lot."
"Fine. But Mary’s about as subtle as a piece of Stilton. If she gets wind of it, I’ll know." Molly’s almost pout dissolved, however, at the prospect of alternative weaponry. "You can show them. I’m more than happy for that."
Greg quirked and eyebrow. "I feel like there's a 'but' there?" he ventured catiously. "What would I owe you?"
'Y—'? Was that meant to be a word, or just stumbling? Well, there was only really the one way to find that one out, despite how much she might kick herself afterwards. ”You didn’t see who, now?” And yeah, the popular people were not Molly-liking people. Or Molly-tolerating people, either.
Shit. Well, now was as good a time as any. Greg took a deep breath. "I didn't see... I didn't see you becoming interested anytime soon."

Screw the whole properness that seemed to follow Molly like a headache. This was possibly one of those few days in life where literally anything else could happen and it’d not matter in the slightest. Or, maybe it would, because if there was a tornado that ripped them both to shreds (or just the one, which would probably be worse), the day would be ruined. But, no, Molly decided, smiling into the kiss. This was just fine.
There was a burst of applause as they pulled apart, and Greg was almost sure he saw Sherlock wiping his eye. (Though, there was probably something in it (or, more likely, he was being a sarcastic dick.) He took Molly's arm, and led her back out of the church, leaning to whisper in her ear. "You okay?"
"It's okay, I get it. She's practically flawless, aside from all those flaws she hides. And she's Cassandra." The second point needed no explanation; he'd know exactly what she meant by it. "And the whole popular thing must be a hit, too." Molly wasn't a jealous person, not about how popular she wasn't, at least. But she couldn't help the bitterness that crept into her tone in the slightest.
"She's not flawless, practically or not." Greg huffed. "She was just... there, and I didn't see y-- I didn't see anyone else coming along that would tolerate me. And, the popular part doesn't mean shit; a lot of the blokes I have to hang around now are arseholes. Like Moran; he fucking sucks."
"I am not wearing that."
"Molly, love, my mum made that dress. I’m not asking you to wear it for the rest of your life, just to this party. Please? It’d mean a lot."
"I would hand myself in," Molly sniffed, turning her nose up. "Don’t test me, Lestrade. Besides, who’s not going to suspect me when your background is an irritated me in the same dress that has your blood on it?!"
"Touche." Greg conceded. "But, I’m not delting it; I’m at least showing John and Sally.” And Mary, but, it wasn’t like he was going to say that.
"John will tell Mary and Sherlock, and Mary will use it as blackmail, and you might as well pin the picture to the staff notice board." They weren’t that bad, but the dramatics might work in her favour. Maybe.
"Oh, John can keep a secret." Greg lied. John was a good man, bless him, but he wasn't the most subtle the vast majority of the time; he was an open book, and that was one of the reasons Greg liked him.
"I am not wearing that."

"She’d get minions to get you, anyway. Key your car or something like that." The stupid things that really didn’t matter, and that she’d never do anyway, just primarily out of goddamned respect for other people. Other, however, would imply Cassandra was nice enough for Molly to consider her a person… "Why are you with her?"
"I don't have a car." Greg said, but, he knew what Molly said was true. Cassandra was a powerful force to be reckoned with; Greg would know best.
At Molly's question he paused. "I... because she... huh." He fell silent again, trying to figure out how to say because I didn't think you were interested without actually saying it.

Molly tilted her head a little, silently asking if he was okay. The almost panic on his face would have been amusing - if it wasn’t that they were a matter of seconds from being married. As the words were repeated, flipped to fit the other way, she echoed her— well, her husband’s ‘I do’ with a grin playing on her lips. Oh, wow, this was happening. About bloody time.
"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may---" The rest of the minister's sentence was both unheard and obsolete, as Greg had surged forward to kiss the-- his-- bride almost the second the words were out of her mouth. There was thunderous applause behind them, but, even that was drowned out by his own pulse pounding in his ears. God, I really do hope the third time's the charm.
"Have you ever even done this before?"
”Can’t say I have.”
"Shall we take it slow then?"
"That'd be... preferable, yeah. I'm not what I used to be."
Oh, he thought she was oh-ing at Cassandra. Molly could almost laugh - that girl was hardly worth a penny if that was how she treated Molly’s best friend. Well, then. “Yeah, that’s probably all that… dancing and stuff. Handstands and… stuff.” All the shit Molly rolled her eyes at, in essence.
"And stuff." Greg agreed. " 'S not fun, fighting with h-- well, it's not fun fighting with anyone, but, with her, you know you can't win. Ever. Even if you're right, or you're arguing the same point."
"Have you ever even done this before?"
"Can't say I have."
"I am not wearing that."
"Molly, love, my mum made that dress. I’m not asking you to wear it for the rest of your life, just to this party. Please? It’d mean a lot."
"I’ll be in prison orange for what I do if you don’t delete that picture,” Molly threatened with a grimace. It was hard to hold, however, and it was even harder not to drop the pout after what he’d said.
Greg snorted. "Love, please; if you ever killed me, no one would catch you, so you wouldn't have to go to prison."

"Oh, my God, why?!” Molly almost hissed, groaning as she realised that there was no way she was going to be able to remove that picture. “That’s just not fair!”
Greg grinned at her. "Because you actually managed to pull this off, and I want to brag to everyone that I've managed to snag the one woman in the whole world that can look good in prison orange."
