Whose idea was it to put Tantalus at CHB? Even your least favorite god or goddess, whoever that may be, is not gonna send Mr. "I killed my kids and fed them to the gods" to take care of the kids of the gods, especially when camp is vulnerable with the border weakened. This is not the time to see if Tantalus has learned his lesson, this is the time to put your best people there. And if we're pulling from the dead, we've got Options. And you can still have them be antagonistic towards Percy if you want. Some better (and I think more interesting) options would be:

Odysseus: Because Percy is about to retrace the Odyssey and I'm a sucker for Percy being confronted with his father's mean side. Throw in Penelope, too, because Odysseus won't do it otherwise and the girls at camp deserve to have an actual adult woman around for once.

Herakles: Would be a very logical choice, and it would be a cool character arc for Percy to start admiring Herakles during SoM and then learn about his less glamorous stuff during tTC.

Perseus, Jason, or Theseus: All could have interesting dynamics with Percy. Perseus with being his namesake (and throw in Andromeda too because the girls at camp deserve to have an actual adult woman around for once), Jason being the original Fleece-seeker, and Theseus being the most famous demigod of Poseidon.

Sappho: Have I mentioned before how the girls at camp deserve to have an actual adult woman around for once?

Athena: She's traditionally a patron of heroes, and it would be very interesting for both Percy and Annabeth if she's hanging around.
