Some small but very vital head.canons that take inspiration from canon:

Mesa is mute. She no longer has the capabilities to make sound with her vocal cords, if she even still has them. There’s a pretty good chance either the Orokin took them while torturing her or they hardened into uselessness during Mesa’s transformation.

Mesa is blind. This is due to her own preference. Mesa blindfolds herself because if she didn’t have a challenge during fights, she’d be bored to death.

Mesa recognizes her surroundings through a combination of passive and active echolocation. This is in part where the sounds of her activating her powers come from. They are simultaneously a warning that she is activating them, especially Peacemaker, but they are also the way that Mesa can learn what the world around her “looks” like. The sounds from her abilities bounce off her enemies and she can find and shoot them that way while also avoiding shooting her allies. Her extreme focus during Peacemaker in particular is to heighten this, to make sure her accuracy is pinpoint perfect and to allow her not to get distracted by allies, obstacles, or other sounds from the fight. 

Mesa loves challenges. Blindfolding herself gives her one, but she also loves other challenges like tracking rare animals and seeing how quickly she can kill a certain number of enemies.

Mesa doesn’t mind doing scans for Ceph.alon Si.maris, but she does find them a tad boring and prefers doing the mission objectives over just doing the scans.

I have a head.canon that Lim.bo Prime absolutely loves Mesa, but she’s too free-hearted to reciprocate. She’s still friends with him though, and he can’t help but try to impress her every time they fight together. It never works, but she won’t stop him, anyway. I think it kind of amuses her.

Bandana-covered head tilts down, down to the place where a child’s voice lies, full of youth and harmony. A DEVIL child. Surely this one spoke truth ( certainly ), but what else would they say? Would youthful voice continue to spin a pretty web of sweet nothings and deceit, or continue to sway her another way? Slowly, Mesa’s head shakes out a silent NO. Had a big iron on his hip.

Here’s what I got so far for an R.D.R.2 verse: 

The woman was a very successful bounty hunter, and she became quite hated for her success and her aim. This came back to bite her, becoming kidnapped and beaten quite badly at the hands of other bounty hunters. They slashed her throat and left her for dead. After being found, the woman never fully recovered. She remembers bits and flashes of her memory, remembers how to use a gun ( well ), and remembers the faces of the people who took her, but not much more than that. Her throat never fully recovered either, losing her voice permanently due to a destroyed voice box. She is mute.

Her old belief of righteousness, of goodness and truth, is slightly shattered, becoming so after being almost killed by the people who she believed held up the same values she did. With this in mind and still searching for the people who harmed her, she's turned to being a gun for hire, always quick to the draw and the pull of the trigger when need be. She’s earned the nickname of the landscape she used to haunt, the land formation that she used to hunt so finely on: Mesa. With the lack of knowledge as to her previous name and nothing else to go on, Mesa is what she will go by.
