Four years ago in the middle of June I realized that I only ever talked to people my partner (now ex) introduced me to, none of whom were transfem and many of whom had fallings-out with said ex and left my life in the process. I realized this was going to kill me if I didn't change things, so I started seeking out trans women on Tumblr. This was in the heyday of animalgirlbodypart URLs and Tgirl Tummy Tuesday, and the sense of joy and self-love I picked up from the community very quickly bled into me and filled the gaps in my heart. Many of the girls who I started interacting with back then are still my mutuals, still people I consider friends and am happy to see or think of, and most notably the three girls I reached out to the earliest and most directly are still the three most important people in my life. The breadth of other friends I've made through these three, the sheer variety of new interests I've found and explored thanks to them, the overall impact they've had on my life can't be put into words. I've changed more in these four years than I did for close to a decade before then. So no matter what changes in the broader culture, I'm always going to have that personal fondness for Pride Month as the catalyst for all of this. I AM proud of myself and of all the girls who made it this far.

probably should have seen it coming I guess but it's pretty fucking annoying everyone saw a conversation about "people don't understand how difficult it is clothes shopping as a trans woman" and proceeded to show just how much they don't understand it by assuming it's only about sizing and not the constant societal surveillance and inability to use the change rooms and fear of being kicked out of the story and unwillingness even for friends to recognise that there's barriers in your way and try and help you.

even people trying to commiserate with me complaining about the dumb responses assumed that it was just about sizing. and phrased it all like "you're so seen and valid". fucking christ.

wow it's almost like people don't understand how challenging it is clothes shopping even years into transition as a trans woman! who could have guessed??????

with clothes it's like ok cool but you might notice that you are wearing womens clothes from the clothes store that you bought and were able to try on before buying and weren't called a pervert and/or pedophile over it. meanwhile I am not. so maybe this is not actually "something all women experience" or just about sizing yes?

hope this isn't derailing but i think that this is heavily shaped by this condescending attitude people have about trans women's womanhood. they treat us like little girls discovering every aspect of being a woman instead of understanding us as adults who can have fully formed and informed opinions and analysis about our lived experience.

folks assume we have everything to learn about being women, because the idea that they would have anything to learn from us about it or about being a trans woman is simply too ridiculous to even cross their mind.

Please help my autistic sister survive benefit sanctions!!

Monday, May 25th: Hello, everyone. I'm Gem, and I am trying to set up a crowdfunding campaign for my sister Cheryl, as Universal Credit recently sanctioned her for 91 days, and she needs urgent help to survive the coming months.

My sister, who is in her 30s and autistic, recently caught the flu. While she was unwell, her unemployment advisor requested that she submit her CV for a job application. Unfortunately, due to her illness, this important task slipped her mind, and she ended up applying a few days later than expected. As a result, she has been sanctioned for 91 days, until July 15th, leaving her with a minimal welfare payment of just £7 for the entirety of May and June. (Photos above for details)

This is clearly not sufficient to cover her bills or purchase groceries. There are resources available for my sister to explore, such as the local food bank and the Scottish Welfare Fund. However, it’s important to note that she can apply for the SWF only three times within a year and cannot cite the same reason for assistance in consecutive applications. For instance, if she needs help with her bills now, she wouldn’t be able to use that same reason for her next application next month.

Thankfully, U.C will still pay her rent while under the benefit sanction. However, she is currently facing financial difficulties and lacks the funds to pay her other bills. She has an outstanding balance of £189.73 for her utilities, and an additional £214.91 in other direct debits, for which evidence can be provided.

I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help my sister get by, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would mean a lot, and sharing helps just as much.
