I live in Nashville, where we are under “safer at home” orders and all non-essential businesses have been ordered to close. Only about half the city seems to be following those orders despite the fact that we have 300+ cases and at least 3-4 people have died. I personally know people who have kept their small businesses open and even some famous bars refused to close until they received backlash from the public. Today country music star Joe Diffie died from Covid. This being “Music City,” I’m curious to see if more people will take it seriously now. This being the south and a red state, part of me doubts it.

Just venting, so feel free to scroll past. This is for me to get things off my chest.

My kid will get her driver’s license in five days. My life of chauffeuring her everywhere is coming to an end. Which is great but also terrifying.

It has been a part of my daily existence for 16 years to take her all the places she needs to be, sometimes requiring me to figure out how to make several trips in one day around my own schedule to drop her off, pick her up, etc. OR make arrangements with other parents when I can’t be there myself.

It’s just what we parents do.

My ex has no idea. He has only maybe four times ever taken her to school or to any activity, picked her up from school, or taken her anywhere. About four times in 16 years. 

So now that we are coming to the end, she has her first ever summer job. I have been taking her to work every day and bringing her home until she gets her license next week, working the travel time around my breaks at work. Today is Thursday. On Thursdays she is supposed to spend the night with her dad, so being the silly person I am, I assumed he would take responsibility for getting her to her job tomorrow. 

NOPE. Not only did he flatly refuse, he acted like an asshole about it, hurt her feelings, and basically told her she wasn’t important enough for him to take the time to get her to her job. I can’t do it because I’ll literally be with a client when she has to be there.

So I had to contact her boss, tell her that we have a conflict tomorrow that will make her late, and then plan to change my break at work so that I can leave  and pick her up to take her to her job. It’s inconvenient for everyone involved, but so long as we aren’t disturbing her very important father, I guess that’s fine.

Did I mention that he owns his own company? He works for himself. He also works from home most of the time. He can literally leave any time he damn well pleases. He just doesn’t want to take her. He just doesn’t want to. 

I’m so, so tired of this entitled, self-important little son of a bitch. It’s been 10 years since my divorce and I hate him every bit as much as the day I signed the papers. He’s not a man. He’s a narcissistic little child.

So....today an 18 year old boy came into my spa for a facial.....his girlfriend tagged along. Fine; I figured they were going somewhere after and she’d wait for him in the lobby. NOPE. 

When I called him back to my treatment room, she insisted on coming with him. She sat in the room while I did the facial, watching me, taking selfies, and having a conversation with him about what their friends were doing on social media. 

She also answered every question I asked HIM about his skin, his skincare routine, anything skin related that I would normally ask a client. 

Ugh.

I just really have to vent. If you get a facial, please don’t touch the aesthetician’s equipment.

I can’t tell you how many times clients have tried to grab the steamer arm on my machine and pull it toward them. 

It doesn’t move in that direction. 

Also, I am the licensed professional and I know where the steamer arm should be positioned.

Also, state board rules dictate the distance at which the steamer should be positioned for safety. I know what that distance is.

Also, I have the steamer positioned correctly as it is. I don’t need you to do my job for me, thanks.

Also, machines can break and this equipment is expensive. Don’t touch it.

Also, steam is hot. As a client learned today when she inexplicably reached up and fully placed her hand over the mouth of the steamer arm, where the steam was coming out. 

Just lie there, get your facial, and don’t touch anything.

It’s impossible to imagine Shinee performing as 4. I understand why they’re going ahead with their concerts but I don’t think I want to see it. I’ve been a fan for 6 years and they will always be 5 in my mind. I want to support them but without Jjong are they still Shinee? It’s so sad.
