moment of unspeakable beauty today when one of my coworkers called another coworker "judas" for not splitting a can of white monster with her, and i got to watch the guy who sits next to me open a new google tab, type in "jeudis," and say quietly to himself "french thursday...?"
Today is the court-ordered deadline to remove President Donald Trump's name from the Kennedy Center. Trump's handpicked Kennedy Center boar
MSNBCNOW is gonna live stream the shitbag’s name coming off the Kennedy Center once the court stuff is done, in case you like me are an American who wants a tiny taste of what it’s like to get to erase a (wannabe) dictator’s name and likeness from public places.
I am maddeningly close to being done with work and officially entering 11 days of vacation time . . . or I would be if people would stop trying to get me to do “this one thing” before I leave.
btw you will miss this in 5 or 10 years. memory will smooth these circumstances down like a river stone, and you will find yourself longing for a shade of light or a moment of this particular innocence. you don't know about what happens next, and one day that will be the most alluring thing of all. don't leave it all for nostalgia. have a nice night now, whatever night it happens to be.
I was reading through the U.S. Copyright Office's "What Does Copyright Protect?" page, mostly to make sure that I wasn't being wrong on the internet, but I absolutely love that this is part of their FAQ:
How do I protect my sighting of Elvis? Copyright law does not protect sightings. [,,,]
There are only 12 questions on the FAQ, and this is one of them.
In library school, we learned how to catalog works “authored” by dead people as delivered via spirit medium. This was a thing in the late 90s when a bunch of people claimed to have messages from Princess Diana, like The Celestial Voice of Diana: Her Spiritual Guidance to Finding Love, by Rita Eide [and Diana, Princess of Wales (Spirit)].
Yes, the Library of Congress has a section in its cataloging manual on how to cite ghosts.
I have become ensnared in the weirdest non-work drama at work.
Please enjoy this juicy gossip I can’t share with anyone who actually knows this person:

it’s like describing a dog to someone who has never seen a dog, and then asking them to draw it
@trinilikesalt tagged me to name some things I’m looking forward to . . .
All the delightful little bits and bobs I’ve ordered for the trip to Europe — travel sized hair and skin products, compression bags, a new crossbody purse, etc. — arriving in the mail. It’s like Christmas slowly spread out over a couple of weeks.
Taking Adelaide to her first movie theater horror experience, which I think we’ll do tomorrow before she goes to SC. (I’m anxious to see Backrooms.)
Yoga this Thursday, if there’s an open spot.
Spending a full week with the world’s best boyfriend, most of it in sunny Spain. I cannot WAIT. By far the thing I’m looking forward to the most.
Having the summer mostly to myself. (I love her and I’ll miss her, but I also just want to roll around in my alone time like it’s money I just robbed from a bank.)
Spending a week with my family in July, all together under the same roof.
Getting to travel (maybe by myself) in October for work and accrue FF miles — and some knowledge, probably, sure — for free.
If there’s an H in your real name or your URL, consider yourself tagged!
If you’re given an office that used to be a free-use huddle space and you choose to host loud meetings in there, literally 10 steps from the nearest desks, with the door open, then I should be allowed to maintain eye contact while constructing a guillotine right outside your window.
Adelaide drove a car today!
(That one in the background, actually.)
She was pretty nervous and refused to let me take real photos before she set off — very fair, considering the instructor and one other kid were already there — but I got these candids.
When I picked her up, she burst into tears as soon as she got into my car. She didn’t feel like she did well. The instructor was terse/blunt with all of the kids and had to slam on the brake at one point when Adelaide was driving. She also fussed at Adelaide for stiff-arm white knuckling the steering wheel like she was about to rip it off the column, so clearly a lot of the waterworks were the release of pent-up stress and anxiety.
We had a couch cuddle when we got home and a little talk about how she isn’t supposed to be perfect at this right off the bat. That’s what the learning is for. And we talked about how it was probably necessary for the instructor to be blunt/terse because all driving mistakes are time sensitive and she’s trying to keep all of the kids in the car plus all of the cars and people in their way safe on her own.
We have two more days, so fingers crossed Adelaide is able to relax.
lord forgive me but I may have to make a nonessential purchase
