The Dragon’s Lair movie pitch was released a few days ago on Don Bluth’s birthday, so to celebrate I watched this incredibly weird movie I watched every single day as a child.

Speedpainted my favorite bad dog. This is the first time I’ve drawn him in about 15 years.

So are we not counting the sequel and series as canon? Or do we just agree the second film isn't good? I don't remember the series.

I personally do not (because the second film and the series aren’t good) and don’t post about it. That said, I don’t want to try impose my opinions on those following the blog, so don’t say that it’s the official opinion of the blog, if that’s what you mean? 

But yeah you guys can do you; the blog is neutral on the subject and it’s even easier to do that since there isn’t even content fans put on Tumblr to reblog. And if there is it’s like... furry porn of Sasha or Hot Topic Annabelle. The only reason it ever really gets brought up on this blog is y’all just love hearing my opinions on all things ADGtH. ;)

The film's soundtrack isn't on Spotify? I can't save Let Me Be Surprised or Love Survives or Soon You'll Come Home??? The VAs of the three main protagonists are rolling in their graves, this is homophobia, I'm suing.

(I’m guessing that the latter part of this message is factious. XD; )

To be fair, the soundtrack has been out of print for a very long time. So long that it’s actually pretty expensive on eBay! I don’t think Spotify can do much about stuff that’s out of print. 

That said, one of the long-running websites has you covered, including the international versions, and even from the sequels and show, if you like them. I should note only the folder labelled “original soundtrack” is the actual English release soundtrack proper, but from what little I’ve listened to, it sounds like they did a good job cleaning up the tracks on the other versions!

It’s also nice because they have the movie version of “Love Survives” which isn’t on the original CD; I had to rip that myself back in the day. 

(As for anyone antsy about moral ramifications or whatever, they’re not selling it, downloading the soundtrack does not steal profits. Take it from someone who likes a LOT of music that has been out of print– sometimes, you just gotta take advantage of music being uploaded by other fans now.)

Do you love or hate King Gator? I'm sure there are lots of fans of his, but I don't think we got your stance.

Honestly? No real strong feelings. I suppose I be peeved about the character because of the nonsensical music number, but it’s no more nonsensical than Charlie singing about sharing, and I have admitted to having a fondness for that sequence if only because of strong memories of eating pizza I earned through Book It will watching it. But I digress.

I guess I can accept him because I fully accept that the movie does indeed have its totally nonsensical bits. (Also the bigger issue with that scene than being the titular “Big Lipped Alligator Moment” is that King Gator and Charlie can understand each other…? After the whole movie up to that point established the idea that all the animals spoke in different ‘languages’ and that was why having Anne Marie was so useful? Also, apparently she can understand rats but sewer voodoo rats are just too much for her. :O )

But then again I can wonder how humans are just not noticing… pretty much everything the dogs are doing? Charlie’s Place was pretty out in the open, not to mention the neon sign and spot lights. Oh and sometimes random strays just happen to have clothes. So yeah I love the movie but it is so silly in some parts. 

That, and since I’ve lived in Florida for a few years now, I figure he’s there because gators are just as ubiquitous with New Orleans as they are in Florida. And they were pretty good at stuffing every 1930′s or New Orleans archetype in there. (The bayou, jazz, Mardi Gras… heck even the radio play the puppies are listening to is The Shadow, which is an actual radioplay from the 1930′s! Kudos for research on that.)

Is it ever stated in the first movie how Carface figured out Charlie was alive? The scene where Killer says he has a ray guns he say's he knows Charlie's alive and has Anne-marie. But I figured for somebody who say Charlie get hit by a car (while drunk) and thrown into the waters, he wouldn't be alive.

By then Charlie had opened up his casino in the junkyard that he lived in, taking his customers. I always figured the normal casino patrons like Smiley didn’t know about Carface’s little surprise, so maybe the word about Charlie’s Place spread in Carface’s place and he overheard. “Screw this place, Charlie’s got his own casino! With free gifts! And dancers! In fact, forget the casino!”

Oh and it had a huge neon-lit sign that said “CHARLIE’S PLACE.”That wasn’t his best move.

Let Me Be Surprised  Adgth is seriously my all time favorite movie and I woke up today and saw it was on Hulu. So far I’ve watched it two times today. But here’s the scene from Charlie and Annabelle in Heaven

Nostalgia time! All Dogs Go to Heaven is one of my favorite childhood movies. I still really dig the generally gritty, darker atmosphere of the film. Everything felt very grimy and I loved the morally very grey characters in it.

The “All Dogs Go to Heaven” Question We All Want Answered Most

I think I speak for absolutely nobody when I say I want to know how this guy got from being a member of Carface’s gang in New Orleans 1939

To being the leader of his own gang with a SWEET, COOL MOTORCYCLE in San Francisco 1996.

I know I’m not the first person to notice this but it’s been keeping me up at night for over a decade and I want answers and also that motorcycle.

He hopped the same time/space portal Killer did, but Killer just went back to Carface because... well, what else would you expect Killer to do? This guy, though, had greater ambitions and wanted a gang of his own, and so got him a sweet motorcycle complete with streamers so he and his new crew could terrorize the streets of mid-90′s San Francisco! 

That or the tv show makes no sense. Honestly I’m surprised street dog fashion never changed in all that time.

(Yeah I know I usually don’t talk about the sequel or tv show but if it means I get to be a smartass...)
