DEAN WINCHESTER IN EVERY EPISODE ↳ 6.11 - Appointment in Samarra
I miss him so much.
MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES
3x07 : Game, Set & Murder
These two have so many wonderful, nuanced scenes together, but I think this right here might be my favorite one of all. Despite there being one more episode and a movie with a great deal of unintentional turmoil, this feels like the culmination of their arc towards each other. They’re finally in perfect balance (spider aside) for the whole episode and it’s just delightful to watch.
It’s the change in Jack though that really makes the whole scene for me. He starts out as this serious, rigid, even dour man and by the end of the series he’s mellowed considerably by slowly allowing Phryne to bring out the very best in him. Look at how happy he is! He’s laughing and playing tennis ffs! I love this so much because so many stories are framed as a woman needs a man to teach her how to lighten up and have fun and this lovely show once again flips that tired idea upside down.
Also, the coloring on these gifs is just gorgeous.
As a big Jazz/Musicals fan, I’ve had this amazing gender-swapped version of this song on various playlists for years, but it wasn’t until Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Phrack came along that I found the perfect fandom match for it.
I love it so much for them, I had to share.
I’m very glad he’s a man and so easy to forget, rather like a habit one can always break… and yet.
whats your type?
Fictional men written by women.
god can you believe that miss fisher's murder mysteries really went & hired a woman in her late forties to play a woman who in the books is in her late twenties ???
they took one look at essie davis in all her devastatingly beautiful splendour, with her bright eyes & laughter lines & apple cheekbones & freckled shoulders & charming smile & said fuck it phryne fisher is now a forty-something woman in her goddamn prime who has driven ambulances in the trenches & flown planes & scaled mountains & who is irresistably gorgeous & knows it ???
it honestly means so much to me that they did that. you see so many tiresome instances of young women being cast as older women & they just turned that on its head & the show is all the better for it. they don't try to make her look younger, they don't smooth out or cover up her laughter lines or the crinkles around her eyes or the creases when she turns her head or her upper arms or the freckles on her hands. they just let her be & she is so beautiful.
this is what happens when you let women run a show.
I’m much closer in age to TV!Phryne than Book!Phryne and tbh, before I watched the show, I was starting to feel a bit down about it. Essie as Phryne was like a joyful revelation for me. It was one more reason the whole experience of watching it cheered me so much. We need more of this on our screens!
She’s radiant.
MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES
2x13 : Murder Under the Mistletoe
Jack Robinson. A man so sassy he's become genre aware.
It’s very sexy of him.
me falling in love with Loki in Thor:
me watching the Loki show now:
Boy, can I relate to this! The starry eyed girl I was spent long hours daydreaming about them making stand-alone movies for Loki AND Ewan Mcgregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. And now I get whole TV series! About BOTH of them!
I definitely looked just like this watching last night. A whole hour of Hiddleston’s Loki largely focused on exploring the pain buried deep beneath all that snark and bluster? I mean. It literally feels like a dream come true… only somehow even BETTER than I imagined.
i just finish miss fisher and i don't know how to cope how am i going to live without these fantastic people
I do recommend the fic feel free to give us a shout if you want recs!
Oh man, do I know what you’re going through! I just finished the series/movie myself a few weeks ago. I couldn’t bear to part with this found family either, so I started the whole thing over from the beginning so I can wallow in every little nuance. Then I intend to make some highly self-indulgent .gif sets and dive head first into what I’m told is a glorious collection of fanfic.
This is the nicest fandom you could hope to find. Everyone is so kind, generous and clever - though I’d expect nothing less from Miss Fisher fans.
Welcome!
We’re trying to re-create the scene of a crime.
It’s Jack’s “beep beep” that absolutely sends me every time, coming right after he calls Phyrne ‘the heavy artillery’.
Love those last two tags! Someone else said that ‘beep beep’ revealed more about Jack’s character than 1000 lines of dialogue ever could and it’s so true. War, time and a failed marriage he seems to shoulder all the blame for has made Jack the serious man he claims to be, but the adventurous, playful boy that he was is still in there and watching that aspect of his personality shine through whenever he leans in to Phryne’s hijinks is one of the great joys of this ship.

MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES
3x04 : Blood & Money
This gif set though... wow. A scene that already makes it hard to breathe is enhanced even further by some really exceptional gif skills. I’m in awe.
why no one’s told me about Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries before
I’m watching it right now and the slowburn is killing me
HOW
COULD THEY
gave me
THIS
and especially THIS EXCHANGE
AND ESPECIALLY THIS SCENE
for the entire second season
ONLY FOR JACK TO PULL OUT LITERAL AZIRAPHALE-LIKE “YOU GO TO FAST FOR ME, PHRYNE” NOW????
ffs they both have fucking TEARS in their eyes
ffs Jack
why
I KNOW it’s classic slowburn/will they? won’t they? AND YET. I TOOK THE BAIT. I CAN’T. IT’S AWFUL AND YET SO WONDERFUL AKDHJHKFDSHJKFKA
there’s currently only one valid straight ship for me and it’s Phryne/Jack THE SLOWBURN GUYS THE SLOWBURN
“You go too fast for me, Phryne.”
Ahhhhh!! The parallel is killing me, @plain-and-simple-ninja! This is all I’ll be thinking about for the rest of the day.

@waxedpaperdoor you say this so well
This. This exactly. They are not incomplete. They are fully realised people who decide life is better with each other. That is so much more romantic than destiny because it’s based in consent and consent is hella sexy.
Yes! ALL of this and then some is what has turned me to the living embodiment of:
Not only to my actual mom, but to anyone else I can corner. There’s so much mutual respect, trust and love between these two that is deftly illustrated throughout the show with dozens of little touches, gestures and looks rather than overt declarations. It’s beautiful.
Phryne could barely conceal her delight when he climbed up on top of that stupid train beside her like one week after they met. In that early moment of shared whimsy, she already knew there were hints of a kindred spirit in there that she could work with, even if her catch-and-release self never could have envisioned falling at that point. I don’t even think that she believed in love until Jack.
I’m really enjoying catching up on all these excellent insights, tags and gifs!
Every charged scene between Phryne Fisher and Jack Robinson
"You smiled at me... and that was the beginning."
I know I'm like eight years late to this particular party, but, oh my, is Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries an absolute treasure of a show that came into my life exactly when I needed it the most.
Back in 2019 when "Game of Thrones" hurt me so badly, Good Omens came along shortly thereafter and Aziraphale and Crowley's beautiful love story singlehandedly helped me mend my poor shipper heart for a time.
But then, ever since my beloved Supernatural ended by salting the last 15 years with eviserated rat and then burning it all to the ground, I've had a tough time letting myself engage with stories like I used to because I can't. I can't go through one more excruciating, non-sensical ending full of thwarted love, misery and death.
So, imagine my horror when I innocently pick up what I think will be a run of the mill British/Aussie mystery series that will be entertaining enough to pass the time, but will expect absolutely no emotional engagement from me only to be blindsided by the irresistible slow burn that is Phryne and Jack? In short, I'm sitting on the couch watching these two immediately have the most ridiculous chemistry and heart eyes like:
In a mirror of Jack's own journey, I tried to back pedal when I realized I was getting way too attached to these two idiots to the point where I was feeling all warm and glowy again whenever I thought about them. Ha! Couldn't be done any more than he could successfully give her up. So, I powered through to the end and... after some truly top shelf soulmate angst... I got my happy ending. Well, an ending for now. If there's any justice in this world, the Crypt of Tears won't be the last we see of the indomitable Phryne Fisher and Jack Robinson, but I can't see Jack ever voluntarily leaving her side again, come what may. Poor Hugh's gonna get a telegram like Miss Fisher alive STOP. Not coming back soon STOP. I resign STOP.
So, despite the odds, I somehow found the one ship that feels tailor-made for each and every one of my sensibilities. It managed to cure me of my bitterness and get me to start singing love songs again. This would be a terrific, endlessly entertaining woman-centered, written and directed show without a ship of dreams that flips a lot of the conventional relationship norms upside down. With it? I am undone. And happily in possession of a brand new comfort show. About murder. And mayhem. So it goes. I'm already well into my first rewatch now that I know I'm free to love it completely with no reservations about what the the ending holds. What a feeling.
Explaining supernatural to someone who hasn’t seen it :
To be honest this post was about game of thrones, but this the best description I’ve read about a show that had an awful ending.
Except for the “best ice cream" part. Supernatural wasn’t the best ice cream, it was just fine, but we were blinded by our love for the characters .
Man, this hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s so fucking accurate.
I tried. I tried so hard not to let the eviserated rat poison my love for all the good that came before. First with Game of Thrones, which I was obsessed with first as books long before there was a show. I wrote headcanons, I listened to music I identified with my OTP (Jaime and Brienne, because I’m Boo Boo the Fool), I rewatched the best episodes. It didn’t work, no matter what I tried, bits of rat gore quickly leaked into every good memory and feeling I had about the characters until I quickly realized all I had left was rat guts and my bitterness. So, I cancelled HBO, got rid of all my GoT stuff, moved the fuck on (she lied. Sometimes I still think about it and get furiously angry all over again) and PRAYED the same thing wouldn’t happen with Supernatural when the time came.
And then it did. And it was so much WORSE. And my barely mended, character-loving heart shattered all over again. Only this hurt more than GoT because it was all so underhanded, shady and gross and Supernatural was much closer to my heart than GoT ever could have been. Dean... Dean meant the world to me. I’m the classic eldest daughter over-identifying with Dean trope. I have a brilliant little sister who is my ride or die. Everything about the show and it’s sensibilities were my exact aesthetic and I loved watching the characters grow beautifully through the years, forming the most amazing found family. Dean and Cas... I don’t even have the strength to write how stupid I feel these days for getting so invested in that or what they meant to me. I just... didn’t see any way we were headed for a bad ending, especially given the quality of the episodes leading up to the finale. My bar was so low. I just wanted Dean, Sam, Cas, Eileen and Jack to stay alive. Even if nothing else happened, that would have been enough.
And now, once again, all I have left is eviserated rat poisoning the 15 years of joy, creativity and laughter the characters brought me. I tried even harder to escape my bitterness this time since there was clear fuckery behind the scenes and it was never supposed to be this way. That and the show had infused so many aspects of my life after such a long run, at this point it would be like actually stripping away pieces of my personality. But, I have realized just recently that I have well and truly failed when I found myself frantically skipping tracks on a playlist of songs that have been my favorites for years because I long ago tied their lyrics to the show and characters. I find I never want to hear them again. I want nothing to do with anything associated with the show. No AKF t-shirts, no Impalas, no Kansas, nothing. It all just makes me instantly angry. Bitter isn’t even a strong enough word. It’s just too painful because all the worderful bits of cookie dough in the awesome ice cream that came before are just utterly shot irretrievably to hell and taste of rat. All I can see is Sam’s blurry wife, Cas’ erasure and that fucking piece of rebar. I know that’s a failure of imagination on my part, but I can’t get past it.
After going through that crushing feeling twice in so many years, now I find I’m hesitant to get invested in stories at all. If I feel myself liking something too much, I try to walk away from it because I just can’t do it again. I was watching an absolutely delightful Australian show with a slow burn ship to absolutely die for. I felt myself starting to get way too attached to these two idiots (like the goddamn clown I am) and I put on the brakes as fast as I could. I haven’t watched the last season, even though I badly want to, because I have that warm, happy feeling again when I think about this show and I can’t take the horror and agony of another brutal, nihilistic ending stripping it all away. Note: There is literally NO REASON to think it will end badly or the characters will die/be separated/be miserable because it’s really not that kind of show and others who have watched the whole thing don’t seem bitter about it... and yet.
I think I hate the writers of Game of Thrones and Supernatural the most of all for this. Not only did they steal all the positive emotions their own work brought me, they’ve also made me reluctant to let myself fully enjoy other stories for fear of another eviserated rat at the bottom of the container spoiling the whole thing.
Fuck them forever for that.
being a finale denier is so fun. like, i’m out here having a blast knowing that dean and cas are living and thriving and being domestic and cooking real, wholesome warm meals and catching up on whatever tv shows they’ve missed over the years and playing dumb card games where nobody can remember the rules and getting way too drunk during a shitty but hilarious karaoke night and chasing each other around the bunker while having pillow fights and snuggling up under a ridiculous number of blankets and sleeping as late as possible and being absolutely totally carefree for the first time in their entire lives simply because they can.
Finale? What finale? This IS the finale as far as I’m concerned.
supernatural is wholly unexplainable to people who haven't watched supernatural yet the entirety of its history is summarized by the unrelenting official spelling of castiel's nickname as Cass VS the unyielding fans' spelling of castiel's nickname Cas no i will not elaborate
I’ll elaborate because I remember when this happened! It was fascinating to witness!
So for a solid period of time, there was no official spelling of Castiel’s nickname. But Castiel himself pretty much exploded all over the fandom from the word go, in a way that was (amusingly) unexpected to the show’s creators (he was only supposed to be in like, three episodes I think? Originally?)
Anyways, fandom needed to spell this dude’s name (obviously) because there were fics and there was meta and Dean almost exclusively refers to Castiel by nickname. So, fans naturally assumed that since it was just a shortening, the way to go would be to cut it off with no extraneous additions. “Cas”.
Flash forward to when Castiel has more or less become an irremovable part of the show, and the official spelling of his nickname comes out as “Cass”.
Annoyance ensues.
Not only because this spelling seems counter-intuitive (where does the extra ‘s’ come from?), but also because - by this point - there are fucking tons of fanfics out there that have it spelled “Cas”. Now personally I think if there was a logical reason for it to be spelled “Cass” then there would have been more of a split in the fandom, with some people going back and changing the spelling on their fanworks, and other people not changing the spelling on old works but using the new spelling going forward, and just overall fewer people going ‘we recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, we’ve elected to ignore it’.
Instead, however, the situation was that fandom had been writing it “Cas” for a long time, “Cas” was the most logical way to spell it anyhow, and Castiel himself had become a recurring series regular in the first place because the fandom adored him. Without the fandom, he wouldn’t have been part of the show for the length of time it took to reach the point where the show’s creators suddenly decided to try and debunk the standard spelling of his nickname.
It would have been extremely easy and reasonable for the show’s writers to just stop spelling it “Cass” when they realized that the fandom had overwhelmingly decided on “Cas”. It wouldn’t have cost them anything, probably wouldn’t have even been noticeable since nobody even really considered that “Cas” would be an incorrect spelling, and is in fact what the actor who plays Castiel did himself. It would also just plain be a nice thing to do, since it would mean that fans who’d devoted hundreds of hours to writing fanfics or meta or creating comics/art with the single-S spelling wouldn’t have to suddenly consider revising their works. But this isn’t what the show did. Instead they revealed the ‘proper’ spelling to be “Cass”, and adamantly stuck to it.
While it might sound overblown for something to do with the spelling of a nickname, the vibe overall at the time really did feel like it was a quiet middle finger to Castiel’s fans. Nothing huge, but something akin to refusing to move to the side of a sidewalk whilst walking down it, and instead heading straight down the middle, so that everyone else has to step in the mud or onto the road to go around. It would have been easy and courteous to just take one step to the side, so it seemed like a dick move not to, a way of trying to cause everyone else a lot more inconvenience for no good reason.
Except, well.
Fandom did not step into the mud or onto the road. The SPN fandom pretty much just slammed their shoulder against the show’s writers while carrying on down their side of the sidewalk.
Nobody changed how they spelled the name.
there it is.
I personally doubled down on “Cas” as the correct spelling when Kripke’s only justification for the extra s was that “I thought it looked cooler” and he was worried people would wrongly think it was pronounced “Caz” if it only had one s.
The extra “s” on “Cas” has bugged to a degree it really shouldn’t for years and OP finally perfectly stated why for me. It such an aggressive stance against the fans by the network/writers and to what end? And then they started going out of their way to show it on screen as if deliberately rubbing our face in it. I never got it. Why are they like this? Without the fans, they have nothing. Why constantly antagonize us needlessly over something so small? Oh, right because they HATE us. The “finale” made that abundantly clear.
For what it’s worth, Netflix spells it Cas in each and every one of their episode descriptions and I love them a little bit for that.
