Life is treated as a competition even though no two people share the same persona, the same journey and the same destination. Sounds absurd, eh? Yet we keep crumbling under peer pressure to win the race that was never a race in the first place

Okay so I figured whenever there is this long list of tasks in order of priority, the procrastination rules dictate:
the. first. task. is. always. a. drag.
the. second. task. is. always. appealing. until. it. becomes. the. first.
Repeat rule 1 and 2
People these days:
News channel: this many cases of covid-19 reported.
People: oh they are lying about the numbers
Whatsapp: forwarded message on how to kill coronavirus
People: this is it. This must be the word of God.
When you realize people are sheep. Okay, you have probably known this all along but then this thing happens and it just hits you hard. Once again.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, repeatedly checking behind to see if you are following, they scamper away into the void. Trying their best to avoid you, to avoid that conversation, because you my friend had made the grim mistake of asking an innocent intellectual question.
45 years from now, this is the description our grandchildren will hear.
It was the year of 2020 when I lost my 24th birthday to corona. That birthday, I remember, was dreadful. To this day, I get shivers when I think of it. There was no cake, no food services, no cafes open, no group photos (unless you were a meter apart), no hugs, no celebration, no nothing. We were in complete lockdown, the entire world had come to a halt, a standstill. I hope you never have to live through such a time, my child, let alone have a birthday in the midst of it.
I took little sips of the steaming coffee hoping to clear the fog clouding my mind. A few minutes later, as my head got clearer and my tummy rumbled, it hit me. Caffeine had been a mistake.
Feverishly, I rummaged through the settings. There must be an option. If only I could find it. Swiping left and right, I hesitantly looked over my shoulder. My grandma was calling me, I had to do something. And fast. And then I saw it. Phew, there it was. The mute button.
Needless to say, it was a zoom lecture.
