Your Appearance is your Billboard, your Words are your Commercial!
Good Evening you Gorgeous Ladies! I'm baaack! Sorry that I've been MIA, moving and the holidays have had me just a bit tied up. So you may remember a few weeks ago I asked all my twitter followers to hit me with some of their pet peeve unladylike behaviors. Well in hopes of bringing the male opinion to this blog, I also reached out to some of my most respected male friends to give me the things they consider deal breakers when they meet a woman. (FYI...They are also well-off business owners that women fall all over! What we call a "catch"!).
Well there was one resounding unladylike behavior that kept coming up in both groups...
FOUL LANGUAGE....
Oh yes you darling Ladies, the words that come out of your mouth can speak volumes about you. Now, I have to pause here and say that even I am guilty of the occasional expletive, especially when I am upset, frustrated, or down right mad about something. However, I am now wise enough to know that certain words are only appropriate in certain company!
Again, I feel the need to take a time out and give you a bit of background about me, so that you know I write to you with first hand knowledge and love! I am absolutely NOT preaching to you from an almighty pedestal!
So when I went to college, I ran around with a "tough" crowd and that crowd included some strong, vocal, and "tough" girls. As the baby of the group I was SUPER impressionable, and I quickly followed their unsavory behaviors, including their language patterns. To put it bluntly I had the mouth of a sailor! People that we came in contact with over the years would often comment about how absolutely filthy our mouths were, but be thought that made us "fun" and upheld our "don't screw with us" persona. However, as graduation neared I quickly realized I was going to have to clean up my vocabulary before heading out into the real world. The grown up world...
I started to pay attention to the way women I looked up to spoke. I began to notice how much more powerful a woman could be by speaking intelligently and not using curse words as a short cut. I quickly realized that to be really be a strong, powerful, "tough" woman, that I was going to need to clean up my dirty mouth! (Insert Orbit gum joke here)
So let me be bestow my life lesson here. They say that first impressions are formed in the first 7 seconds, and let me tell you, even if you nail those first few seconds you can quickly ruin yourself with a few dirty words in front of the wrong person.
From the guys perspective, they informed me that a dirty mouth is a huge deal breaker for them. How can they take you to a business event, or more importantly, home to momma, if they can't trust that you can speak in a polished manner?? Depending on your age, or what stage of life you are currently trudging through, you may or may not believe my next statement, but here goes. The men that you dream about, the McDreamys, McSteamys, whatever you chose to call them, are ACTUALLY more attracted to a smart, polished, and presentable woman, than the rough, tough and "let it all hang out" woman!
So there you have it ladies, your LadyLike Tip of the Week! Be mindful of your words! Women find it offensive and men find it a turn off! Think of the powerful women throughout history... are their lasting, life changing, and relate-able quotes peppered with profanity? NO! Because the Ladies that make history choose their words wisely and their impact is timeless!
With all my love and adoration,
A.
