quite possibly the worst part about the take a vacation album is that it ends with distant cheers celebrating ryan’s birthday. when was the last time something major happened on his birthday? oh, wait,

regarding your post about take a vacation/ryans bday, what happened on his birthday? did i miss something? ;_;

as far as anything happening on ryan’s birthday while hewas recording TAV, I don’t know if anything happened. We can just hear peoplecheering ‘happy birthday, ryan!’ at the end of “heart of mine.”

But as far as other important things happening on hisbirthday….

If you’re unaware of the Seattle lore, I’ll give you abrief synopsis: 

8/30/07. It’s Ryan’s 21st birthday, and hecelebrates in New York at Pete’s bar. None of the other guys in Panic were oldenough to drink, so they didn’t go to the party. At this time, they were inWashington state because they were going to have a show there in a few days.Ryan was probably going to fly out there the next day, maybe. There wasn’t anyrush for him to be there. He could enjoy his party, enjoy being with Keltie,his girlfriend at the time.

But Ryan flies out to Seattle in the middle of the night,without telling Keltie. Completely last minute. There he meets Brendon and theyget a picture with a fan at a restaurant. Ryan is wearing the same clothes inSeattle as he did at his party in New York. Which begs the question: Why wouldhe leave so suddenly just to see Brendon? What would compel him to do that?What kind of intense feeling love would drive him to abandon his girlfriend inthe middle of the night to fly across the country?

Let’s also not forget that it was raining that night inSeattle–hence, the name Northern Downpour.

(Northern Downpour really fucked me up and I even did awhole analysis of it)

so, like, essentially the point of making that post was to further examine how much TAV was so clearly about brendon and how much pain he must feel over thinking about seattle–the one time he dropped everything just to be with brendon, just to make his birthday worthwhile.

This is the ‘demo’ of When The Day Met The Night, so to speak. The lyrics are “…Dreamed this dream, while seventeen, in a garden under green umbrella trees…” (there’s more, but that’s the important part so we’ll focus on that) At first, I saw the seventeen and thought of Old Fashioned, but then I realized something: Keltie Knight, Ryan’s ex-girlfriend, claimed that EVERY love song on Pretty Odd is about her. Now, this has already been disproven because of the Reinvent Love line, so we know that’s not true, but here’s even more proof. See, Ryan didn’t meet Keltie until a couple years after he was seventeen. What does this mean? That WTDMTN is NOT about Keltie after all, but about someone else entirely. Now, the girls that Ryan dated before her (that we know of) are Jac Vanek, who he had a very painful breakup with, and the nameless girl he wrote Lying about. It’s unlikely that he wrote a love song about either of them… which leaves… Brendon.
