Desire stirs in his own gut, responding to the knowledge that his beloved wants him. “Gege,” he murmurs, letting his breath fan out over Xie Lian’s skin. “Let me worship you.” The hint of desire blossoms, Xie Lian’s hand tightening where it’s been combing gently through his hair, and Hua Cheng inhales a breath he doesn’t need. He feels dizzy, the need to press kisses to every part of Xie Lian’s body overwhelming him until he can barely think.

Hua Cheng eats Xie Lian out until they’re both very pleasantly exhausted.

If you're someone who likes to sort your ao3 bookmarks by date, you might be wondering why you have a bunch of old fics at the top of your list, even though there isn't a new chapter added or seemingly any other edits at all.

It's because a lot of authors are currently editing their fics to restrict them to logged in users only. While that doesn't add any new content, it does edit the fic and that puts it at the top of your recently updated bookmarks list.

I linked it in the above post, but basically a bot has probably scraped content from AO3 and that content has been used to teach an AI how to write.

additional info:

this bookmarks issue only relates to series bookmarks (see another reblog from a Support volunteer)

bots scrape the internet all the time and AO3 would not have been the only site that data was taken from. any website that is publicly available (ie you don't need to login to see the content) is open to scraping by bots

restricting your works might or might not stop any particular bot from accessing your works. Bot creators can also create logins to give their bots access. Also, whatever scraping was done is already complete so you'd be (potentially) protecting yourself from future scrapes rather than the one that is being discussed.

bot scraping is legal

people are upset over this because the bot this case was once owned by Elon Musk (but is no longer) and because AI art generators are winning art awards. Writing AIs are nowhere near that level yet and the one referenced in the reddit post that started this whole thing off isn't even intended to be used to write entire works of fiction. It's just a writing assistant to provide inspiration or help you when you're stuck on a sentence.

This has been a bullet point breakdown of the bigger points but it is not really nuanced at all. I'm not personally planning to restrict my own works, but if doing so makes you feel better then go right ahead.
