Abbaye de Fontfroide
Narbonne, France
Used, abandoned, reused again many times over, the buildings and structures of the abbey have been built over nine centuries, starting from the 11th century. Visiting the abbey is a powerful experience, as moving between the beautiful spaces and structures dating from different times creates interesting, varied spatial sequences. The extensive gardens surrounding the buildings are equally impressive.
