the disrespect people show towards the ben/beverly relationship shows a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of both characters and what their relationship MEANS to them

ben and beverly were two of the first people to see the other as a real human and loved them for who they were. ben’s experiences as being fat as a child are shown to be deeply traumatic for him due to the way people treated him because of it, and bev was the first person to see past all of that and love ben, both in childhood and adulthood, because he was good and kind and sweet and smart and brave and cared about her. and ben loved beverly without any expectation for her to love him back, without ever wanting anything from her, just wanting her to be happy and safe and loved with whoever she could find. bev has been abused her whole life and her finding safety and happiness in ben IS an important part of the story and an important part to both their characters. both of them are just as deserving as a happy ending as all of the other losers and it is incredibly weird to me that people undermine the trauma both of them have and act like their happy ending with each other wasn’t deserved.
