Lily should have expected that Leia might ask such a thing after Lily let her favorite song slip from her lips. But it still took her by surprise. She shifted her weight uncomfortably.
“I… Well, no…” She sighed softly. “I’ve always wanted to have a boyfriend, but between taking care of my sisters and trying to get the inn back, I never really had much time.”
“Oh, I’m sorry...I didn’t mean to pry.” Leia felt that she might have said something she shouldn’t have. It seemed to be a sore subject for Lily. It sounded rough. Not having time for yourself and being responsible for others. Leia was only responsible for herself.
“I don’t have anyone either, but I’m perfectly happy being single!” Sometimes, Leia wished she had someone, but she was satisfied with her social life. She hoped Lily could feel the same way. Or better yet, find someone special. Leia racked her brain, trying to think if there was anyone she could set up Lily with. She wasn’t really sure how old Lily was and knew it would be rude to ask.

“Thanks!” Marla was proud of her hair, she had grew it herself after all. But seeing the girl’s shorter hair piqued her interest as well, had she cut it using one of those razors she had been told about? or maybe a sharp clam…. Giggling nervously she didn’t know exactly how to answer the girl’s question. “Warm waters I suppose? I was once by an area that was so cold there was ice in the water! I prefer it warm though, sunbathing is easier… I mostly just follow the tides. and know i’m here so yayy!”
Leia was a bit confused by Marla’s answer, but realized it was hard to specify where in the ocean you’re from. Maybe she had been on land too long. Still, the way Marla described it made her sound like she was alone. It was a bit odd for a mermaid to be on their own, but she supposed there were those few independent ones.
“Well, I’m glad you’re here. Do you need somewhere to stay?” Marla sounded like a free spirit, so perhaps she wasn’t planning on staying. That would be a shame, but Leia wouldn’t tie someone down. Especially someone she had just met.

screw too tight
•。 ✧ Charles sighed - albeit annoyed by the nuisance, he stepped back mentally and figured that he may have snapped a little too hard on her. It was preposterous of him to think that the ordinary individual would understand the potential sensitivity that electronics have with water; he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and pulled on a lever for his robot to return by his side - to which he then approached the woman who was spread out on the sand. Indeed, it was a pitiful sight to behold, but the polite and chivalrous thing to do would be to see if she was okay - not like he honestly cared that much, sincerely.
“… Are you okay?” He asked from above with his arms folded across his chest.
Half expecting the man to offer a hand, Leia sat there for a moment and just stared. “Yes, I’m okay.” Leia could tell this man wasn’t the chivalrous type, but that was okay. She was a strong, capable mermaid! Swiftly, she pushed herself to her feet and patted the sand off her butt. Still a bit shaken up, Leia stayed a safe distance from the robot (and the man).
“So, did you make that?” She asked, looking at the robot. There was nowhere that Leia knew of where you could buy robots like that. Even on Leuda. It would be quite the impressive feat to build such a machine.

Marla was enjoying her daily swim around the islands, today she chose the deeper waters because of the temperature, above the water was hot hot hot, and she had no idea how the humans put up with it. Dry scales sounded like a disaster.
As she finished her lap, the mermaid was pleasantly surprised by a wave and a bubbly voice. Another mermaid! It had been years since she saw someone of her own species, and this one was so cute!
“Hi!” Marla said excitedly taking the hands of girl who swam up to her and shaking them. “I’m Marla! I love your tail, so many colours! I haven’t seen another mermaid in ages, ahhhh~ i just wanna hug you!” She squeed out all in one breath. before carefully inhaling some air through the water. “Hehehehe”
"My name’s Leia! And thank you! I was just admiring your scales, actually. And your hair. It’s so pretty!” Sometimes Leia wished she had long hair like most mermaids, but she also felt that’s what made her’s unique.
“Oh really? Where are you from?” If it weren’t for Pia, Leia wouldn’t have seen another mermaid in ages either, but she wondered what Marla meant by that. Could she have gotten separated from her family as well?

Seeking Seashells [Denny & Leia]
Amazing, huh? Denny chuckled at her excitement. Maybe if he felt that same kind of passion about everything, he’d be doing a lot more with his life than the slow-paced ease he was used to. Then again, it was nice to take a break from all the excitement too sometimes.
“Sell ‘em? Nah, not really. I sometimes send them to my parents. Mom was always a big fan of that kinda stuff,” he said with a chuckle. “Though, I totally wouldn’t be opposed to making stuff for someone. They’d just have to tell him what they wanted.”
Otherwise, he’d try making a dog out of seashells. Sounded like a nice way to spend the afternoon.
How sweet. Denny’s parents were very lucky to have such a considerate son. Leia wished she could send something home to her parents...No, this was no time to get sad!
“Well, if you ever decide to sell them, I’ll be your first buyer.” Leia considered asking him to make something for her, but she wouldn’t feel right taking something like that without paying. She was curious to see what they looked like though. “Maybe you could show me them some time.”

That was a hard question to answer with musicals providing so many different but lovely songs. Singing some Disney classics made her feel like a princess who would one day find a prince of her own, but the more modern musicals were great too. Perhaps she would fall all the more in love with the Phantom of the Opera’s soundtrack were she able to sing the highest of high notes like the lead character Christine Daae. Sadly she lacked that operatic ability.
“If I had to choose… Helpless from Hamilton maybe? It totally embodies the feeling of excitement when you fall in love with, you know, the one.”
She hoped she’d one day find her “one”, but that still seemed like such a ways off and she didn’t want to bring Leia down with such thoughts.
Still not knowing what Lily was referencing, Leia nodded her head some more. She might have heard of Hamilton before, but that might have just been in school.
As Lily spoke of love, a question popped into Leia’s brain that just as quickly left through her lips. “Do you have a significant other, Lily?” She wondered if Lily was speaking from experience. Being a conversationalist by nature, Leia knew how to keep a chat going. Always ask questions! Also, she was a curious mermaid. She realized this question might be a bit forward, but still wanted to hear the ginger’s answer.

Truthfully, no one had been daring enough to ask Lily to do a musical, though she’d always thought it might be fun. Maybe one day…
Though her attention was quick to change from her own singing to her love of musicals. She looked so excited.
“Oh, goodness! Beauty and the Beast, maybe? Oh, no… But The Phantom of the Opera is lovely too. And then there’s Hamilton, Be More Chill, Beetlejuice - ah, so many good choices!”
Leia nodded along with a smile as if she knew any of the musicals the woman listed. It all was like a foreign language to her. Still, she liked hearing people talk about their interests. Seeing their eyes light up always brought a smile to the mermaid’s face.
“I can’t say I’ve heard of any of those. Do you have a favorite song to sing?” Leia didn’t want to seem like she was interrogating Lily, but she was genuinely curious.

Leia watched fish swim by as she rested by some vibrant coral. Although she ate fish, she also appreciated their beauty. Beds were comfortable, but she felt most at ease underwater. The ocean was her home after all.
While admiring the aquatic life, one particularly large fish caught her off guard and nearly made her choke on water. Attached to a shimmering pink tail was a woman’s torso. A mermaid! The only mermaid Leia had seen since washing up on Arcadia was Pia.
Leia did nothing for a moment, mesmerized by the mermaid’s long, blonde hair floating in the water. Then, her purple eyes met the other mermaid’s blue. She raised a hand and waved at the blonde before swimming over to her.
“Hi!” she called out, her voice slightly distorted by the water. As she spoke, bubbles came from her mouth and floated to the surface.

Seeking Seashells [Denny & Leia]
“Oh, just collecting shells for a silly little hobby of mine,” he said with a small shrug. “I like making little statues and jewelry out of ‘em. It’s fun and passes the hours when I’m not fishing or surfing.”
Denny supposed there was no need for him to explain all that, but Leia seemed trustworthy and nice enough. Not like there was anything bad she could do with the knowledge anyway.
“How ‘bout you? Up to anything fun?”
“Oh, wow! That’s amazing!” she remarked. Creating something was always admirable in Leia’s book. “That’s not silly at all!” Leia had no talent when it came to the arts so she was genuinely impressed.
“Oh, I’m not doing anything. Just taking a walk. Tell me more about the jewelry you make. Do you sell it?” If he did, she was definitely buying. Leia loved accessories. Especially accessories that were ocean themed. Her favorite was pearls, but seashells came as a close second.
lutistlily:
Lily chuckled at the question. Most people never dared to ask that and, truthfully, Lily couldn’t remember the last time she had to explain the last option. Well, she supposed there was a first, or perhaps next, time for everything.
“Yes, I know,” she said. A small smile lit up her features. “It’s more of a joke, but I suppose I really could sing a whole musical. I mean, I don’t see why not.”
There was no question whether or not Lily would actually know the musical. She would know, apparently. This just in, Lily is a theater kid.
“Oh, okay.” So it was a joke. Leia wondered if anyone had ever asked Lily to perform such a feat. Three songs already sounded exhausting, but a musical...Well, Leia didn’t really know much about musicals. She had never seen one. They sounded interesting, though.
“Do you have a favorite musical?” Leia questioned. At this point, she was just making conversation. She wasn’t about to ask Lily to perform a whole musical. Leia was sure the ginger woman had more important things to attend to.
