DROYI COIRE is a continent made up of many nations, places and people. Among the diverse population, a few general terms can be used to describe its inhabitants:
⁽ ᶦᵐᵍ ² ⁾ The Innox: stemming from the latin term innocuus (harmless), is the official term given to any human without magical abilities. this is the current ruling population of droyi coire. the innox had won the war years ago and had taken over the land since. the war between the two populations began after much strife and a rogue noxir attack on the innox that triggered the final straw. fear griped the innox population and war broke out between one another. the fear of the noxir still lingers among the innox, and drives the innox government’s mission to protect their people by either imprisonment or reversing the noxir’s ability to wield magic. while the latter was a more archaic method used two centuries ago following the war, the more common method of protecting their lands is imprisoning the noxir. if the crime they have committed is grave enough, a death sentence is considered. most of the innox grow up with prejudice against the noxir and do think they are to be feared and will bring forth harm. pirates are a subcategory of innox that do not have any magical abilities but align themselves with noxir and live in their territory. they are just as a criminalized as the noxir are.
⁽ ᶦᵐᵍ ¹ ⁾ the curators: are a military group primarily dedicated to working against noxir and paraitures. curators are stationed all throughout the mainland, but mostly operate out of Strehburg, given its proximity to the Quelled, and Doneros, as it’s the most highly populated, “melting pot” of residents. due to the added narrative in longstanding goals of protection and peace with noxir, curators believe they are protecting the mainland, but the organization is corrupted at its core and tends to carry out highly sadistic acts against their perceived transgressors in the name of law and order. there are many, many divisions of Curators, including the traditional field military, research division, science division, and more - but the field military is the most commonly referred to.
⁽ ᶦᵐᵍ ³ ⁾ The Noxir: stemming from the latin term noxius (harmful, poisonous), is the official term given to any magic wielding individual. this population is made up of anyone who appears to be human but with underlying supernatural abilities. this can range from elemental abilities, psychic abilities, general witchcraft and more. before the war had split the population into magic wielding humans and non magical humans, there had been no terms to describe either one. after the war, many noxir were brain washed to forget their abilities or chose to hide their abilities for extended periods of time. this led to their future generations growing up unable to unlock their ability to use any magic. thus essentially making them an innox. anyone openly using their abilities is imprisoned, so the noxir who are still able to recall their magic and living in the mainlands among the innox population are referred to as The Concealed. most of the noxir that don’t live in hiding live in The Barren Land on the other side of the dangerous Quelled Forest. a forest that is difficult for both innox and noxir to cross and thus makes for a good physical barrier between the two populations.
⁽ ᶦᵐᵍ ⁴ ⁾ the mage renegades: the mage renegades ( or just the renegades/rebels ) are the newest rebel group. tired of living under the oppressive innox rule, they are a growing group of noxir that strive to overthrow the current innox powers. their homebase is in Shago of the Barren Lands, but they have members posted throughout Droyi Coire, especially the Mainland to infiltrate its governments, operations, and general life, as well as to collect intel.
Paraitures: umbrella term for all supernatural / mythological / supernatural / fantasy races, regardless of origin, can include noxir. ( e.g. dragons, ogres, mermaids, satyrs, vampires, elves, fae, etc. ). some human appearing noxir prefer to call themselves or identify as a paraiture, while others stick to the term noxir.
