glad to have had SU when I was growing up…wasn’t skilled enough to draw fanart for it back then but expect a lot more art for it soon! graduated Saturday and trying to draw more while juggling comimis :)
i like the difference between the manga and anime depictions of kourui. due to the evhs anime ending abruptly, there isn't much to compare, but there is still a difference worth noting.
in the manga, rui goes straight to koichi in club one and asks him why koichi left him. the translation is not completely accurate since i am using a weak translator, so do feel free to correct me if i am wrong in some parts !
rui: "why didn't you recruit me?" × "why was it ryou instead of me?" × "i came to hear that reason today, unrelated to you, shin." <- not sure what the last part is about, again a translation error. regardless, he's still following him around like a lost dog.
koichi: "..well, people have their own suitable places." × "here's talent that thrives in big stores. this is a good place, but i don't think it can meet your expectations." <- i think it's sweet that koichi tells him he can do better than whatever club one has to offer.
in the anime, whereas rui and koichi are in some back alley behind the club, i assume. when rui asks him the same question, koichi responds to him with a smile, as if he should know something as simple as this. it's not condescending, koichi isn't that type of person, but it's so silly to expect someone like rui, who is.. a very ambitious and extravagant person to do well in a cheap club like club one. (no insult intended. it just does not compare to club trillion.)
the similarities that stay true is that rui is sent out by shin to check out the club, and canonically, they haven't talked in like 5 years? which is crazy to think about.

it has been made clear that koichi has health problems; i mean, the guy drinks every night since his 20s. it would make sense for him to have that. another thing about him is that he hides these issues; i can't remember where i read this, but someone described him as "a man who can die at any time" which is such an interesting way to describe him as.
in the manga, (assuming) all of that drinking has caught up and finally takes a toll on his body. he is aware of it since he goes to hajime, signaling for a bucket. unfortunately, hajime (the dumbass) doesn't catch onto it.
rui is the first one to do something, per usual.
however, this aspect of the manga was.. adapted really poorly (IN MY OPINION) in the anime. i wish they didn't do such a serious moment in a bathhouse of all places ! ! 💢💢💢
but, per usual, rui is again the one reaching out to him and doing something for koichi, which i really like seeing the consistency of.
and yes, i am fully aware that 3 mins is not enough to put all of the characters' full depth or to stay fully true to the 4komas, but i still want to talk about it regardless.

For Mar’s family…I haven’t thought that deeply about it honestly! ( sorry hehe. ) BUT! My basic thoughts about them would be that he has a large family, and many siblings. I’m not sure if to have both parents in the picture, but I’m thinking that he was close with his father. ( Crush only mentions his father, Mr. Turtle in Finding Nemo pfft.. ) Plenty of sisters so even if his mother isn’t around he doesn’t feel awkward around girls. I don’t think he was overlooked or anything, at least not overly, but Mar did get hurt a lot as a child because he was really able to do whatever he wanted. He was a good boy but not the best decision maker. ( A little note, Mar doesn’t have that high of a pain tolerance so it’s not like he was just doing things because he wouldn’t be able to feel it if he got injured. Though, he’s the type to laugh at his pain even if his eyes get watery and he can’t breathe. )
I don’t think Mar has a real particular favorite, but he’s most fond of fruit, especially some already cut up for him!
