shaemckinley:
Levi Fletcher was cute. It had taken months for Shae to pinpoint exactly why sheâd let herself become half attached to perhaps the biggest threat to her livelihood in Foxcroft, Marcus Murphy aside. Levi was like a dog with a bone when he got the first whiff of a good story, nosing around every bit of local scuttlebutt with the due diligence a Pulitzer Prize-worthy topic deserved. Calypso had been open for years but had yet to fall into Leviâs crosshairs. Instead of avoiding the boy who came back home, Shae found herself enjoying his company, perhaps because he was exactly the sort of man her mother would have loved to see her âsettle downâ with. Levi had merits of his own, of course, but it was out of a deep-rooted if latent love for her estranged mother that Shae drifted back to Levi time after time. Hanging out with Levi made her feel close to the woman she hadnât spoken to in years.Â
Shae had always wondered why heâd never set it on her in earnest about Calypso and the persistent rumour that she was a bona fide black-cat-owning-broomstick-riding-wart-sporting witch, but asking him outright was as good as painting a target on her back. Still, she gave Leviâs shoulder a familiar little squeeze with her lean fingers before climbing up (almost literally; she took a moment to curse her meagre height on a near-daily basis) on to the bar stool next to Levi. She waved a hand to Logan, ordered a gin and tonic, and fixed Levi with a winsome smile the likes of which heâd seen many a times before.Â
âIâll tell you who stopped by my shop today if you tell me the latest hot gossip.âÂ
There was something different about Shae, something that drew Levi to her so naturally. There werenât that many people in Foxcroft that he had found himself wanting to spend time with and Shae just happened to be one of the people on the very short list. It was almost like Levi was a different person when she was around. It was surprisingly nice to be completely honest. While most people looked over her for her craft, Levi couldnât help but be drawn to her more because of it. Of course, it the Calypso was a good lead for him, especially when someone unusual walked into the shop. But he couldnât lie, he was curious about the things that Shae did in her shop. There must be a reason why thereâs a few people who stand by the things that she could do and he wanted to know what it was. But every time he tried making himself go into the shop, there was something stopping him. Instead, the bar is where heâd have to go if he wanted to spend some quality time with her.
As she made her way over to the counter, Levi sat up a little bit and watched her carefully, almost afraid that he would miss something if he looked away even for a moment. And as she her figures touched his shoulder, he smiled widen as he placed an arm on her lower back to help her up onto her seat. It was another moment or two before Levi finally looked away from her and took another drink from his own glass as Logan came over to take care of her. Once Logan walked away and Shae flashed that smile of herâs that could easily cast a spell over anyone who was at the receiving end of it, Levi knew exactly what was coming next.
âNow that doesnât exactly sound like a fair trade to you, hot gossip is a rare thing to come by here.â He looked over his shoulder before leaning onto of the counter. âHereâs something you might like. I just did an interview with Miss Foxcroft herself.â
