this division between ‘lgbt aces’ and ‘straight aces’ (of course they always forget aros) is imposed on aces by people who don’t understand asexuality and want us to define ourselves based on the boxes they’re already familiar with instead of accepting new ones.
if you’re ace and you find that romantic orientation doesn’t mean much to you or that romantic attraction is too hard to define know that you don’t have to pick a side. you can use those labels when you feel that they’re relevant, but being ace is enough, it doesn’t require any other labels or explanations.
don’t force yourself to fit the definitions of people trying to misrespresent you.
It’s “imposed” by people pointing out asexuality isn’t an actual orientation. It can’t be as there is no common thing asexuals actually have in common so it’s a nonsensical label.
It’s not a sexual orientation. Your orientation is who you are attracted to. Not splitting attraction into “sexual” and “romantic”. Just attraction. You like boys and you’re a boy? You’re gay! It’s that simple. You don’t need to split it.
