hellooo! it's been a while since i've posted anything remotely ooc for maylin and i figured with new events coming out, i would give a refresher and reintroduce my little Ghostbuster here. if you are interested in plotting with her, please give this a like and i will slide into your messages soon~ thank you again for reading through everything and i hope to write with everyone soon <3
bio. profile. pinterest.
she was adopted at 17, shortly after she was signed into the company. maylin’s parents passed at a very young age, causing her to live with her grandmother for a few years. she has been in and out of foster homes before meeting her permanent parents closer to high school.
maylin grew up with two twin sisters who liked dressing her in the girliest clothes you can imagine. while her relationship with her family is somewhat close, she hasn't returned to visit them for fear that she will disappoint them. she struggles to truly feel part of their family due to not being related by blood.
maylin is dance and rap focused within her career path. dancing is what brought her to the company along with teaching at her local dance studio back in China, but after taking her workshop and truly understanding the importance of having other skills in her pocket, she began to take rapping seriously.
she also dabbles in music composition, creating beats that she could make her choreography with. some beats/melodies are created through her electric guitar. she's no expert, but she has been practicing to get better when she can.
with that being said, she's still trying to juggle being a trainee and a student in college. she is entering her last year as an illustration student and a tattoo apprentice. there are questions about where her priorities lie as she continues to pick up her hobbies (tattooing, piercings, playing guitar, etc). of course, she wants to be an idol but she is setting up a future for herself if it doesn't work out.
she's still into doodling ghosts whenever she is bored or has any spare sheet of paper. maylin has also found a love for the character Kuromi, she believes their aesthetics are the same. if she could be any animated character, it would be her.
maylin is very rough around the edges. she enjoys listening to rock music, all black everything with a hint of white, wearing chunky rings, collecting vintage Vivienne Westwood jewelry, and always painting her nails a darker shade. she doesn’t consider herself a tomboy, but she is not into dressing cute or following the beauty standards of Korea. her closest consists of black, blood red, and maybe some browns.
maylin is known for having a potty mouth and has a harsh approach toward others. her silence can be deceiving, but she is always watching others and making observations on their behaviors. most of the time, people assume she is mean and has an attitude 24/7, but it's just that she is brutally honest and will say the things most people are too scared to tell.
she realized that most people aren't as open as she is, yet she won't hold back simply because of that.
she is not afraid to admit how confident she is in herself, never stepping back on expressing how she feels, and will speak her mind 100% of the time. sometimes she will talk without thinking, causing her to get into a load of trouble.
if you got this far, thank you for reading ;-; i really appreciate the interest and hope that we can plot! i do have a plot page that could be used for reference if you don't want to start from scratch.
Byeongkwan's found himself spending quite a bit of time outdoors as of late. It was a good change of pace from the rehearsal room and his studio, even if they were practically his primary residences as of late. Besides, it only took a few warm days for him to start feeling like the world was his oyster. Or, feeling like his personal gym, rather.
A quick jog has led him to Maylin, disturbing her peace with a poor attempt at a jump scare before plopping down at her side. With his own headphones tapping out a mile into his run, he's thankful she's feeling generous. "Relax DJ, I wasn't gonna say anything... Not yet anyway," he adds with a cheeky grin, reclining back onto his elbows, face well obscured by his hoodie and the hat he sports.
The first song kicks in and he doesn't speak for a moment, fingers drumming against his thigh and nodding along with the rhythm. "No critiques so far... But I'll hold my verdict until the last track. Y'know, if the album is actually a masterpiece, you're legally obligated to make me a playlist, yeah?"
Sometimes, Maylin wonders how she tolerates the high energy of the man beside her, or how their friendship still functions despite their diverse personalities. It seemed like Maylin attracted all kinds of people, and they weren't turned off by her unusual ways of living... or speaking. How does he not drain his social battery so fast? It was a miracle that she could simply function near him for hours. Though they didn't see each other often, and with the open space and warm wind, the dancer was in high spirits.
Taking this moment, she lay down on her back and put her sunglasses on. There was no need to really shield her from wandering eyes. No one would ever recognize her, but it was sunny today. "When you have such a rich palette in terms of music, you can be as confident as I in albums." Her eyes fixated on the clouds slowly passing above them.
"A playlist?" she scoffed. "That's not how it works. Do you know how important it is to curate one for someone? It's way too special to just be thrown out there." Maylin couldn't remember the last time she ever created one for someone. Talk about an extreme amount of pressure. "Do you even deserve one?"
mom had been calling a lot lately, asking when sori could see her again, sometimes it felt like the woman wasn’t aware of how busy idol life was. and her dad had been bothering her too about when the two could meet, since last time where she broke into tears in front of him, she hasn’t wanted to see him, hasn’t wanted to talk about what happened last time.
her phone was making sounds during practice, when she at last looked at her phone, it was a bunch of messages from both of her parents, and a few from friends that too wanted to hang out. sori felt like she had barely been alone lately, practice with other people, living with other people, everything she did was with other people.
“i need to call my mom” she let the others know before leaving the practice room, originally intending to just go outside, but then remembering that the rooftop must be much more closed, probably nobody up there. but she opens the door just to spot a familiar face “and are you aware of that rule?” she returns back, letting the door close behind her.
"I'm fully aware of the rule, that's why I'm curious as to why someone else was so keen on breaking them in broad daylight." She shrugged, looking away from the idol and back to the row of houses and stores that littered the streets of Korea.
At that moment, Mayling realized that no matter where you go, whether in the studio or dorms, you will never have any privacy. Or alone time. It was ironic that she had such thoughts when the industry she was trying to break into was known for invading every celebrity's life if given the chance. Not that Maylin had many things to hide from the company or any trainee, but having this sense of peace and quiet was a welcome relief. The dancer assumed nobody would have the balls to sneak up to the roof at this hour.
There will always be someone who debunks her assumptions.
Glancing in Sori's direction, her lips pursed slightly. "Do you want me to leave?" There's a high chance she wouldn't, but asking just in case was nice of her.
Kentaro notices it a while ago how any paper around Maylin always seems to end up… haunted. At first, he thinks it's just absentminded doodling. But it keeps happening, scrap paper, receipts, the back of his hand, and the truth slowly reveals itself: Maylin has a thing for horror. It does explain her image, in a way, but Kentaro finds the cute ghosts endlessly entertaining.
Right now, he's seated across from her and out of the corner of his eye, he catches the edge of her notebook and the unmistakable curve of another ghost forming on the page.
He smirks.
"Is that one going to wear a top hat?" he asks, already laughing as he leans back with a grin. "What? I think it's cute."
If anyone ever asked her why she started drawing ghosts, Maylin would lie and say it was the only thing entertaining her. But if she was being honest, maylin found the doodles fun to think about while waiting for time to pass. Today was no different, mindlessly drawing on the sheet of paper that held her English notes. She was growing bored with studying, and that's when her mind began to race with numerous thoughts. This included drawing a ghost with a knife and carving apples.
Glancing up through her lashes at Kentaro, she rolled her eyes at his words, nudging his leg with her foot.
"There is nothing cute about this. You see the knife in his hand, don't tempt him to jump off the page." Or, for better terms, don't pay attention to what she is doing. Putting her pen down, maylin ran her fingers through her hair a few times, tugging at the roots with a sigh. "I was actually thinking about giving him a backwards cap. Nothing or nobody wears a top hat."
minyoung truly admired those that were able to enjoy themselves when on stage. it was more than just performing: it was something special to witness when someone did something they loved. when that something was performing, the audience could feel it. when maylin performed her rendition of deja vu, minnie couldn't help but vibe along with her.
it was clear that maylin was having fun while performing. in turn, minnie had fun as well. the trainee had meant to tell the more senior trainee that she did amazing but with going up to perform herself and meeting with friends she doesn't always see during the gathering, she got side tracked. it had been a couple of days since the event but this was the first time minyoung was running into maylin since then. she had to take her moment.
"hey! you're maylin right?" minnie greets casually. (super casual minnie, totally cool. as if you don't know of each other by now!) "i'm minyoung. i don't think we've gotten to really talk yet. i wanted to introduce myself!"
Performing was an art form. Of course it was. How could it not be, when performers are trained to perfect this craft and be as entertaining as possible to their fans? But to feel free in the safety of other trainees was a different emotion entirely, and one that maylin could appreciate sometimes. this was all for fun, no competition in sight, and she allowed herself this luxury.
Once she left the stage and her beating heart had calmed down, the dancer watched the others perform with pleased eyes. The tiniest smile curving at the corner of her lips at this moment, where she could forget what life was all about. Her reality wasn't the brightest thing, so she didn't mind wasting some time to do this with everyone else.
Of course, that thought didn't last long when she prepared to leave a bit early, but someone had stopped her in her tracks. "Ah, right." It wasn't out of the ordinary that they hadn't spoken yet. Maylin didn't just approach anyone until she found something interesting. "It's nice to meet you, Minyoung." Her thumb twisted against the fidget ring as she eyed the other trainee. "Did you have fun up there? I could tell that your eyes glimmered with excitement."
dongha doesn’t have an absolute stance when it comes to the supernatural. the rise and popularity in vampires and werewolves have made it a little harder for him to take them seriously, but when it comes to spirits and ghouls—well, he’s a lot more receptive to the idea. while dongha can’t see them himself—and he doesn’t know whether he wants to in the first place—dongha is curious about them regardless. which is why he finds @lgcmaylin interesting, wonders whether she can spot things that would often fly over dongha’s head.
“tell me honestly,” he says, spinning around to look at her with his eyebrows furrowed. game face on. “are there any spirits with us right now?” he questions, completely serious. maylin might think that all he’s doing is making fun of her—but he does genuinely want to know! “is there one standing behind me? can you see? wait, is it an angry one?”
hopefully not. dongha doesn’t know the first thing about appeasing a spirit. offer it his handmade trinkets?
maylin didn't know when she became the "ghost whisperer" of the company. yes, she has made it very clear that she believes they are not alone in this world and that things do linger. but she mentions a lot of stuff without fear of judgment. It doesn't help her case that she enjoys doodling tiny, cartoon ghosts on any spare sheet of paper she can access. blame that on being an art student and wanting to entertain herself.
some didn't bat an eyelid at her particular interest after being announced. however, there is always someone who wants to know more, in the most annoying ways. looking over the edge of her book, she raised an eyebrow at dongha's question. as much as the dancer would love to actually see any lingering spirits, she wasn't gifted enough for all that.
but she wasn't going to tell him that. not yet, at least.
"there's a red aura near you, might be an angry ghost trying to seek his revenge on the staff here." she shrugged, words seeping with a hint of sarcasm. "what do you gain by knowing something is near you? does that spark more interest or scare you half to death?" her eyes went back to the pages in front of her, boots now tapping against his chair in the start of her annoyance.
"you know," maylin began. "i've never asked you what kind of group you would want to debut in, like... if you had a choice, what would your preferred style be?"
this was a topic maylin liked to avoid at all costs, a fear welling up in her chest for an unknown future that didn't see the light of day. curiosity was the only thing that pushed such a question towards @lgclili .she wanted to know her thoughts or if she even saw a good ending for herself in the company.
"we spend all these years training in hopes that it will lead to something, but I never really stop to think about my own wants. Not that they really matter; I'd just be happy to dance on stage." maylin picked at a piece of grass that poked up from their shared blanket. the spring breeze gently brushed her hair against her cheek, and her head turned to look at what nature offered them today. it was somewhat of a nice day, maybe too nice to be feeling the way maylin did.
there was something off about how she felt these last couple of weeks. her light was dimming, not that there was much surrounding her in the first place. but she started to think about more trivial things that didn't bother her beforehand. blaming it on her lack of energy and not sleeping well was the only excuse she could muster up.
"ah, never mind, just thinking about how deep this conversation can get gave me chills."
it wasn't every day that she could get a spot alone on the grass fields by the river. With spring hot on her heels and the weather becoming a bit nicer, minus the heavy pollution, she could now sit outside in peace and enjoy the cool breeze.
however, what the brunette wasn't expecting was to share her earbuds with a certain someone, all because it looked like she was listening to something nice. of course, maylin has good music taste, and she takes pride in her diversity in genres as a dancer and listener. she wondered what gave it away that she was listening to an r&b singer that always tickled her brain in the best way? maybe it was the way she lay on her blanket, twisting her fingers around the wired earbuds, or she was humming too loudly.
nothing really came to mind as she was now playing the album from the start and handing over the bud to @lgcbk. she couldn't remember the last time she saw the loud-mouthed man who ran up and down the halls of Legacy. maybe because he was now preparing for something bigger than her, they didn't cross paths anymore.
oh well.
"i'm not looking for any critiques on this album. it's a masterpiece, and that's it, okay?"
it was no secret that maylin was busting her ass off to debut. she saw no other path for her if this didn't work out, but with a new season approaching and the air slowly getting warmer -- maylin couldn't find the drive to practice today.
which was odd. she dedicated most of her free time to improving or drawing if she wanted to let her body rest for an hour.
but no, she didn't want to even step into the studios and think about another dance that she knew wouldn't suit her style, and she couldn't push herself just this once. so the brunette had 'borrowed' a blanket she found lying around the studio and decided to take it up to the rooftop, where she sat and enjoyed the sunny weather. she was pretty sure nobody was allowed up here, but it was the perfect place to breathe.
and possibly look at the trees down below, where she could see little buds forming on the tree branches. her trance was broken when a creaky door opened, her head snapping in the direction and making eye contact with @lgcsori.
hellooo! it's my favorite time of the year, so I figured why not make a post. this is a starter call for general threads, if you're interested, leave an emoji that reminds you of spring and I'll drop a random starter for us 🌸
With an arm hooked around Maylin's and a pair of sunglasses on her face ( at night, no less, for that little sprinkle of added cool and disguise ), Taeha fans herself with a stack of... coupons. More coupons than her or the birthday girl could ever need. She'd been saving them up just for a night like this. Let her tell it, and the two had their own soundtrack, some aesthetic wind blowing, and the perfect slow motion walk - she even slows her stride for a moment to see if Maylin catches on. Silliness aside, food, drinks, and laughs were on the menu for night out and nothing could stop them -
Well, maybe an expiry date could.
"Really?!" she pouts, taking back the three she'd handed to the cashier with a frown. Their favorite chicken shop with the best beer ( ...not that Taeha would really know the difference ) was their first stop - and a complete disappointment. "But - But... But! It's her birthd - !" Judging by the look on the older woman's face, she wouldn't be too willing to make an exception, not even for their mini celebration. Taeha turns on her heels, a slight pout tugging at her lips, and loops their arms once more.
"No fair... How was I supposed to know... It didn't even say it in the fine print! Now where do we - " She gasps as they turn another corner, the smell of grilled meat wafting from the open doors of a trendy restaurant. A college crowd had already seemed to gather and loud pop music blasted from the speakers inside. "Oh, oh, oh! Should we go?! It looks so fun! Maybe we could get someone to buy you a birthday drink," she adds with a shoulder shimmy and a wiggle of her brows.
birthdays were a strange thing for maylin. growing up, she was taught not to expect much, but a simple cupcake, if she was lucky enough, or to only get a recycled stuffed animal as she grew up in the foster homes. they weren't made of money and couldn't afford to make every child special, so what made her so special now that she made it out? nothing really. only a few friends seemed to cherish her enough to want to hang out during the special day. or night.
and it seems taeha was working hard to make sure maylin could remember this time spent with her. Even though each moment with her friend was special, she didn't know how long she would have with taeha before she truly advanced into her career. however, tonight, it didn't seem much was working in their favor as they were kicked out from many places due to how busy it was, and the failed attempt to use an expired coupon. this all felt a bit too comical for maylin to hold back her laughter.
"don't worry, we can always order food and sit in the dorms." maylin bumped her hip with taeha's, knowing she would start pouting any second if they couldn't find a place. the dancer had mindlessly followed her friend around the block, listening to multiple jingles and cheers from crowds as laughter filled the air. even the crowded restaurant in front of them didn't seem to have any spots either. "are you sure we can get in? i don't want you to be disappointed again." running a hand through her dark hair. "please, i doubt they'll buy me a drink, maybe you since you're such a cutie."
or c — seemingly the best option and somehow the one he ends up going with for lack of better judgement and/or reasoning — play it off with a laugh and continue to lie, lie, lie.
“did i make it too obvious?” a prayer is sent to maylin’s quick thinking — he doesn’t know how much playing it off he could do for the cameras less it came off awkward and unnatural but her wit seems to match his; instantly flaring what little competitive light that burnt within his 190 cm frame.
a hand raises, sheepishly brushing through his hair when maylin makes her choice, “truth be told it’s been a while since i’ve played, can’t say i’m not nervous. i might be playing with a professional — are you a professional?”
finally making his selection, deciding on captain olimar and his ragtag team of pikmin, the fight begins — only to end just as quickly as it started because jino somehow sends captain olimar flying off the stage in what he can only excuse as a freak accident.
maylin had turned her attention away from the man and back to the screen. a chuckle accidentally slipped past her lips, her shoulders shaking in a way that seemed like she was laughing at him. in reality, the situation provided her with a bit of amusement. so maybe she was laughing at him, at his very being, the nerves that seeped through his body language and wavering words that indicated he was a terrible liar.
it's alright; she wasn't going to tease him—yet. they were in front of the cameras, so only so much maylin could say or do. perhaps jino was saved by the red blinking dot. when the loading screen popped up, the dancer momentarily rested the controller on her lap, pushing her hair back and away from her face. "i wouldn't call myself a professional... just a quick learner."
as she attempted to get into the mood and focus, maylin prepared to grasp the game's concept. however, before she could, the screen suddenly flashed "game over," prompting her to turn her head in disbelief. a huff escaped her nostrils, her eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
"so we can both confidently say that you are not a professional."
"Oh," Kyoka says. Oh indeed. "I thought you were like," she moves to wave her hands around before remembering that they're full, shaking her head a bit in substitution for that instead, "the resident ghost expert in Legacy or something. You know, with all the ghost doodles around." By now she's just oversharing (again) but hey, Kyoka was never well known for her ability to not yap for a reason. Get her flustered, and she'll continue to ramble on to cover her embarrassment until she steps on another landmine she built, and continue until something gives.
She shrugs. "I mean... there's nothing else to do, is there?" She may as well help. "Cleaning, it helps me relax also."
for some reason, that earned kyoka a warm smile—or at least the warmest smile maylin could muster while leaning against the wall, journal still in hand. "while one can be an expert, not all outer beings want to be in constant communication, and i actually don't want to speak with them." she shakes her head, tilting it ever so slightly. was she really the ghost expert walking these very halls? maybe she should take that title and run with it. after all, she's the only one who seems to believe in ghosts while also leaving her doodles around when bored. "i should stop leaving my drawings out, keep myself even more mysterious, or whatever they are saying about me."
looking down, maylin jotted down a few more notes, humming in agreeance. "if it makes you feel any better," which whatever the dancer had to say probably wouldn't be of help. "there haven't been any accidents in the last decade, so we should be out of here in no time."
K.O. @lgcmaylin doesn’t know jino, but jino sure knows a lot about her — a tale of jino and mistaken identity and somewhere in between a wish to be granted on the line over a game of super smash bros — nintendo switch 2 ‘lets play’ youtube series filming.
see, jino — in all his brown-eyed boy wonder awe — is a little too excited. such excitement, spilling from the top of his head to the very tips of his toes, is almost magnetizing. one could say polarizing, even. he’s practically glowing as he enters the set. and when he is given the actual game console to hold in his hands — he might have actually ascended into heaven.
to stand there, with the latest addition to the nintendo family, he was beyond stoked.
( imagine the cartoon version of a spotlight descending upon jino as he hails the device above his head in an obligatory amen to the nintendo gods )
and perhaps, maybe in that excitement, he could get carried away.
so carried away that, with minutes to spare before they would begin rolling, he’s running into get into place; settling himself beside maylin on the couch, not a single glance her way as he’s rambling about: “so i got the game we’re playing — it’s super smash bros, classic, do you know what —“ looking up, his gaze finally falling upon the woman, herself, whom — oh shit, “uh — you’re not, oh. uh —“
he looks left and right, only then — from a distance — does he see who he had thought was beside him all along: another korean trainee he had met earlier in the day and had talked into playing with him; she, who did not look anything remotely like maylin, stares back at him confused, waving at him.
in reply, jino can only wave back, entirely embarrassed, about to stand up and leave when the director calls a 5 minute stand by as they fix up the last of the cameras; falling back into his seat, he glances at maylin — all thoughts of her — impressions spoken of by someone else — suddenly flood him and he coughs, “uh … hello.” a greeting cut short because 5 minute feels too much like a minute and a half and suddenly cameras with flashing red dots are being aimed at their faces and the start screen for smash bros stares back at them —
game start?
"oh! oh — hm, what character should i pick ... hm," he's stuttering through his introduction, "this dude looks fun," he mumbles, brows furrowed as he sheepishly looks from maylin to the screen, now concentrated on the task at hand ( aka. not embarrassing himself in front of the cameras ) ; his stare currently debating between captain olimar and ness.
maylin and games never mixed well together, unless they were horror related. the dancer never went out of her way to sit down and put on something to keep her focused for however many hours. it felt too brain rotting; she would much rather spend that time doing something else. like drawing.
but today was different, they were all given the privilege to sit down and play, all of course, while being recorded, so being expressive seemed to be the goal for the day. listening to the excitement among others, their bright smiles blinding her dark brown eyes, maylin decided it was best to sit down somewhere and wait for filming to begin.
she hopes that whoever she plays with is ready for the competitiveness to seep through. the first rounds were never going to be in her favor, seeing as she needed to learn everything, but once she gets the hang of things, it's game over.
feeling the couch dip indicated that someone else had decided they wanted to play with her, which was shocking. though, said shock didn't last long from his words alone. her eyes narrowed slightly, "weren't expecting me, huh?" she couldn't help but chuckle at the face he was making. "you seem excited, so sorry you're now stuck with someone who's never played."
before she could mention the obvious, the cameras started rolling, requiring her to adopt a more 'professional' demeanor. as she settled into the plush couch, the dancer's gaze shifted to the TV, yet her smirk remained. "you look a little nervous," she comments, sifting through a mountain of options. "are you afraid you won’t complete a level?"
it looks like you've seen a ghost, do you feel weird for mistaking me for someone else? those were the words sitting on the tip of her tongue. "i'm going to select Bayonetta, it's only right."
