my assumption upon seeing zendaya in the fall of troy scene was that athena was appearing to odysseus as a hallucination in order to impress upon him the severity of everything/her disappointment in him. but i also heard an interpretation that this was a normal woman in troy, and so this scene thereby recontextualizes her other appearances as being her taking the form of a nameless murdered trojan woman. i think i like the latter interpretation better
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) dir. Anthony Minghella
(this is gonna be revealing towards my outlook on things) i lowkey don't get what ppl mean/think they mean when they say they say they neither believe in god nor determinism
i do lowkey think that casting benny safdie as agamemnon was a bit antisemitic but i also like it like i think it's sexy
Sex and the City (1998-2004)
one thing i do really like about living in the US is the media available in theaters & without a vpn and tours coming to somewhere near you. happy for you all seeing hadestown rn i wish it was me
gotta go to an orientation tomorrow for smth ive done before a lot of times and i lowkey am gonna feel above it + everyone there but i gotta remember that that's dumb
religion is so fucking funny the world is just too beautiful there must be a higher entity behind all this. lets oppress women
idk if i have pots but ive decided to go on a journey of actually adding as much salt as i want to my food
some of you people are so annoying. i mean me too but good lord
but also it's wild just how racist people are being about the "get those beggars out of here" line
i will say that it's fun to get into smth that's big right now but is actually intellectual in any way. i think the last times i was into smth that a lot of other ppl were into have been w bridgerton, heated rivalry, & wicked and well. as much as takes on the odyssey have been annoying me they are overall much more interesting & thoughtful
it's kinda funny to me seeing ppl be like "the odyssey made agamemnon out to be evil to contrast odysseus's #complexity in a way that really waters down both characters" (which i kinda agree with) and other ppl being like "agamemnon spent his 3 minutes onscreen aurafarming he's so cool" (true in a certain sense) and other ppl being like "why did the odyssey make agamemnon out to be cool like he's evil #justiceforclytemnestra" like ok
Men think they are intellectual for liking cristopher nolan movies
One of the best stories humanity ever produced was a draft of a rewrite of the Epic of Gilgamesh written by a Ecuadorian poet in 1935. It was tossed into a fireplace by an angry boy and lost forever. Another of humanity's best was told 65,000 years ago and was overheard by a small tribe of embarked Neanderthals boating down a river in what is now northern Georgia. A short woman at the bank scrubbed a wooden idol in the water and sang an ancient tale in an unknown language. These two are eclipsed by everything produced by two brothers at the coast of what is now Cameroon between 503 BC and 490 BC, which they shared with some family and friends, and were beloved by everyone except a sour uncle.
