Metallica Hardwired….to Self-Destruct review
Post 90’s Metallica can generally be placed into to two camps dog Shit (St anger and Lulu) and rabbit Shit (Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic). This album, however, would need a whole new category as I would say it’s sits somewhere between Load and Reload for me, not saying it sounds like either of those albums although there are elements. I would say this album sounds more like a mixture of everything from Kill em all to the Black Album with a sprinkling of the newer albums throughout.
The first three singles give you the perfect insight into this album great riffs and instrumentation (Lars best drumming since Load and Reload) and a mixed bag when it comes to lyrics. With Hardwired being my personal favourite of the three and it’s arguably the biggest throwback to that old school thrash Metallica sound everyone being waiting for whatever reason. A close second to this track Moth into Flame with its old school thrash vibe meets new school metal, the guitar line in the bridge is just amazing and is probably my favourite riff on the album.
In my opinion, these two tracks sum up the record. This track is also heavy inspired by the band Iron Maiden and other New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands and whistle I’m not the biggest fan of Maiden I can still appreciate a band paying tribute to an influence. Other great tracks are Dream No More which sounds straight off of Load (Nice fucking solo on the track as well) and Murder one which is something that could have been off Ride the lighting or dare I say Puppets on the B-sides cd hidden track section/collection.
The one downside of the record is the lyrics and let me make this clear they are not St anger, Lulu bad there more on the same level as Load and Reload. Not in the sense of lyrical themes but in the sense of quality and look I understand that James is old/not 18 and pissed off at the world and he’s probably written over 110 songs (probably close to a thousand if we include all the potentially unreleased shit and stuff that’s been rewritten) so I understand that not everything is going to be pure gold. This doesn’t mean I'm going to sit here and give him a pass when shitty lyrics come up in a relatively good sounding song. The prime example of this is in the track Now that we’re dead with lines like "All sinners, a future, All saints, a past ,Beginning, the ending, Return to ash” Which is followed up with "Now that we're dead, my dear, We can be together”. Shit like this sounds like something Bullet For My Valentine or Atreyu would write and if I would call those bands out for it I’m calling Metallica out for this shit. It’s not as bad as I am the table but come on I expect better for the most Influential metal bands of all time.
Overall the album is good and a much better outing than the two previous records Metallica has put out. Sure lyrical the album has it’s sour moments but overall the instrumentation makes up for it somewhat. Now it would be lame of me to try and compare this to perilous efforts but something that is naturally going to happen with a band like Metallica especially considering the band's golden run from Kill em all to the black album. Where will this album hold up compared to those only time will tell, however right now I’m feeling a 3.5/5
Track review/Rant
Danny Worsnop solo single Mexico is shit like really fucking shit. Firstly the video sucks ass and looks like your typical rockstar trying to do country music in LA. The verse is lame and sounds generic as most country music songs do. The only real positive thing I can say is the chorus and even than there's a couple of lines in that are just so cringe worthy. Example of this is the line "To get a little crazy, find a pretty baby and let go" this makes fucking Life of Pablo era Kanye seems like a fucking lyrical genius. I feel like this song and album (not going to review it btw) is just his pet project and that's cool but man he could have done better. Hell look at Andy Biersack's solo album it's well placed doesn't feel like a rehash of BVB stuff and actually sounds decent. This piece of crap on the other hand does except minus sounding like Asking Alexandria. I just hope the new Asking Alexandria stuff with him back on it doesn't suck. As far as a score goes this get's a 1/5.
Avenged Sevenfold The Stage album review
Avenged Sevenfold's new album The Stage delves into new territory and that new territory is progressive metal.
Now when it comes to progressive metal i sort of have mixed feels on one hand Fucking Tool (greatest fucking band of all time everyone else is shit in comparison), Between the buried and me and dream theatre (mainly Awake and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory) and then everyone else who I don’t care about.
This Album lucky falls on the later side of that and by god is it fucking good not Nightmare/Walkin the fallen good but good none the less.
good, Hell I’ll say this straight up if you like City of Evil you’ll love this.
The first single the Stage (title track as well) took a bit to grow on me as the video clip wasn’t doing it for me but man when it finally clicked it clicked. The idea the song presents of the battle rages on throughout time is haunting and fits well with the instrumentation.
The last three songs on the album are probably my favourites with Roman Sky’s killer solo from Gates who brings his A game for this album, Fermi Paradox with its Intricacies and the last track Exist with its overall grand nature.
One of the downsides to this album is going to be the overall length of the album sitting at 1 hour and 14 minutes. Usually, this won’t be a problem but the shortest track is 3:42 and most of the tracks average out at 5 to 6 minutes. So for first timers take this as a warning.
Another downside is the lyrics on the track Sunny Disposition “Nobody likes cheap wine” line is something I expect from an early 00′s pop punk band, not A7X. This is a massive bummer as the instrumentation is killer.
However, this album is a step back in the right direction after Hail to the king which was a bit of a mixed bag and that’s probably being kind.
This album will win back the hearts of those fans that were craving for more of the City of Evil/Self-titled/Nightmare era sound of the band’s discography.
Grade 3.5/5
Korn - The Serenity of Suffering
This new Korn album is one that I feel everyone should check out especially if you're a fan.
The first five tracks on this album Insane, Routing in my vain, Black is the soul ( a very emo name for a song), The hating and A Different World (that one with Corey Taylor) are probably the five best tracks Korn has put out since following the leader.
This is due to Jonathan and the rest of the band firing on all cylinders when it comes to the overall performance and production of these songs. For example, the Guitar riff in Insane is just crushing and would not seem out of place on one of their 90’s albums.
A side note holy fucking Shit Corey Taylor seems to get better with every single track he touches the man it just makes me want more slipknot fast.
As for the rest of the album the tracks are good and on any other Korn album in the mid 00’s to early 10’s would seem like the fucking Bee's knees but seem like a step down on this album.
Don’t get me wrong their good tracks but just not at the same level as the first five with the worst two offenders being Take me and die yet another night (extremely emo title for a song). However, don’t let this detract you from giving this album a spin.
Overall this album feels fresh and somewhat old at the same time and as a fan of this band that’s seen them almost go from shit album to even shittier album, it’s nice to see them hit gold once again. This new album gets a 4/5 from me.
Radiohead moon shaped pool album review
So Radiohead is a band that took me a while to get into specially post ok computer with a lot of help from friends constantly pandering me to listen to Kid A and in rainbows. However over resent years I've grown a soft spot for the band and would consider them in my 25 favourite bands of all time. So when rumours of a new Radiohead album started circle I was hype (not deafheaven new album hype but still pretty hype) and to be honest I was expecting something on the same level as kid a or Ok computer with this album. Specially after hearing the first track of the album burn the witch.
Burn the witch is a worthy opening track and sounds like something that could have been off kid a or Amnesiac. The string arrangement from Jonny is brilliant and eerie carrying nicely over from his soundtrack scores. Daydreaming is a moody track that is driving by a Piano riff (i assume Thom is the one playing it). The lyric on this track aren't the best but are not so bad they draw you out of the track overall. The final track on the album true love waits is a great closer. Another piano driven track from the band that shows off the bands ability to play around with sound and atmosphere. Whist i’m not going to say this track is on par with motion picture soundtrack or Street Spirit (Fade Out) it’s not too far behind them.
One of my biggest complaints about this album in general is that whistle it's a really well done overall the album is way too moody and feels like a chore to get through. What I mean by this is it took me 2 and half hours to listen to a 52 min album. Which sucks because usually the one thing you can take away from every album by the band is its power to draw you in for repeat listens. This album doesn't do that for me simple because all the tracks are at the same tempo. Sure not every song is the same but this album could desperately use an Air bag, Just, Back drifting or a 2 + 2 = 5 to shake things up a little. This album really lacks that and it shows during the middle half of the album. I feel sorta band bashing this album for this but Radiohead has shown in the past they can do much better then what they've shown on this album.
Grade 3.7/5
The Black Album review
The new asking Alexandria is to me at least a step back in the right direction. Going into this album the band lost former sing Danny Warsnop to creative differences and his overall lack of interest to continue the band. The band would bring in new vocalist Denis and straightway put out the first single I won't give in.
This song has a real Slipknot meets Mötley Crüe/pop metal vibe to it and shows off the band going for a bit more of a cleaner sound. Denis vocals are the highlight of this song. The I won't give in hock in this song is amazing.Undivided is another song that shows off the bands evolution with a more enforces on the chorus than in any other Asking song to date.
The album opens with Let it sleep and right away the band are going back to their original heavy metalcore sound. This song is the close the band have come to replicating the rawness of Morte et Dabo (awesome song) in a long time.
Arguably my favourite song on the record would have to be sometimes it ends, where the band tackles the Danny Worsnop situation head on. The interview sample at the start and end of the song really ad's to the lyrics and music.
When it comes to lyrics the deepest songs on this album has to be the black and Gone. With the Black dealing with all of pain going on in Ben Bruce life e.g Danny leaving the band and his divorce from his wife . Gone focuses on the tragic death of the bands guitar tech Chris Holley, with Ben calling the song a tribute to his late friend.
Overall this album is great, it’s both solid and leaves you wanting more from the band all at once. This isn’t album of the year but it’s good enough to make me wanna pick it up on vinyl and see the band live. Grade 3.5/5

Kanye West Life of Pablo Album Review
This albums like watching a show that everyone else is raving about and I mean like for the past 5 to 7 years raving. Ever since dark, twisted fantasy I've been told how great Kanye is by fans, reviewers, channel v and pitchfork. Then you listen to an album and your left wondering what the hype was all about. Now I'm not going to sit here and shit all over this album, that would be trivial and pointless. However, I am going to shit talk certain things about this album so if your a fan boy you should stop reading now.
The Bad and the ugly
My first big issue with this album is the production quality. When I think of a big album dropping that usually means some what decent production or something at least to the standard of the downward spiral or any Fugazi record. The production on this album, especially the first half is bad not shitty local indie band bad but like mainstream rap record bad. Which to me takes away from the record, now I know the argument that's Going to come from this. ‘Oh Liam you just don't get it! It's supposed to be this way that's how Kanye does things.’.
Ok, fair enough doesn't mean it's still not annoying as all hell, but hey, at least there's a reason behind it I guess. See some times, bad production/cheap production can help a record like Minor Threat’s out of step but this record misses the mark by a mile and instead of being genius it comes off as lazy.
The Lyrics are another thing that let this album down. For example, lines about fucking Tyler swift and models bleached assholes just seems forced and slapped together at the idea of becoming a line frat boy’s and preteens can go around saying. For me at least this is kind of disappointing as i excepted more for someone that calls themselves a genius.
The Good
Tracks like real friends, feedback, No more parties in LA, Waves and I love Kanye are two and far between. These tracks are definite highlights on an album with so many lowlights (get it, it’s a track from the album). Feedback is my favourite track by a mile and one of the few tracks on the first half of the album that I actually like. The favourite line from this track has to be ‘PETA's mad cause I made a jacket outta possum, Awesome, Steve Jobs mixed with Steve Austin’.
The other track that impresses me is the interlude I love Kanye, holy shit this is funny and impressive at the same time. Who would have thought Kanye would ever take the piss out of not only his hardcorefan, but himself all at once in the form of a glorious interlude. The best line of the song is “What if Kanye made a song, about Kanye? Called "I Miss The Old Kanye," man that would be so Kanye”. Too bad the rest of the album doesn’t have the same admission as this track.
Overall, this album has its good moments, bad moments and ugly moments, however despite all of this it’s still a somewhat enjoyable album. I’m giving this a 2.5 out of 5 nothing special, but something worth checking out if your into Kanye.
This song proves without a doubt Deftones are the fine wine of music
Black Sabbath The End EP Review
When I heard about this EP I was questioning why the band didn’t just put out an album instead. However, once I heard it I’ve completely changed my view. If a band only has three or four solid tracks, then why not just put out a decent EP instead of a mediocre album. The other interesting fact about this EP is it’s only available in physical from their live shows.
The open track season of the dead, grabs you by the balls and pulls you right in. The riff reminds me of classic Sabotage era Sabbath with an almost Metallica like riff. The song itself goes through you standardSabbath flow and this works perfectly. Ozzy’s vocals are still good, especially for someone in their late sixties. Most younger vocalists could only dream of sounding as good as he does on this EP.
Cry all night the verse reminds me of a facelift / dirt era Alice in chains, something that Jerry Cantrell back in the day would have laid down. I don’t know whether this is them paying tribute to AIC or just pure coincidence, whatever the case, it’s awesome and could be an early contender for song of the year. Definitely one of my favourite songs off the EP.
Take me home and Isolated man sort of blend together and sort of brings the EP down a bit. However, they are still decent tracks no the less there just don’t leave that lasting impression.
The rest of the Ep consist of live recordings from their 2012-2014 reunion tour. As far as the quality of the recordings go this is pretty decent for live recording. It’s interesting to see that they picked the two singles off of 13 and a deep cut in Age of reason instead of the usual paranoid or iron man. For me at least this is a very ballsy move from Sabbath. The other track featured is under the sun from volume 4 which is an awesome track from an awesome album. All four of these live tracks get you pumped to see them one last time, which I guess is the whole point of this EP.
Overall is this album worth buying at any of their shows? Yes, I would throw down 20 to 40 bucks for a copy. However, as far as a grade goes from this EP I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. I thought the two middle tracks Take me home and Isolated man weren’t up to standard with the other songs which is why I can’t give this EP anything above a 3.
Re: your Australia day rant, if you've never heard of chet faker, you must be living under a rock tbh
I have no idea who the hell that is.
Triple j hottest 100 mini rant
Every time around this part of the year I start to find myself getting frustrated at the idea of finding out what will be the number one song in triple j’s hottest 100. I know straight up its stupid to even think something good or relevant in 2 months time will be number one, but it’s angry music fan in me that draws me back every year.
Hell right now I can tell you the number one song will most likely be some random Aussie solo artist no one has ever heard of or will ever remember in 2 months. Like I can’t even tell you last year's winner off the top of my head without having to google it first.
I’m 90% certain the artist or band that won it last year hasn’t done shit, sure there are exceptions to the rule but who honestly cares. However, it would be nice to see a parkway drive or an amity get the number one spot and sure that will probably never ever happen but it would be sweet if it did.
So if you want to make a difference please go to the following website and vote here:http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/15/
