Cate coughed at Libby’s question, forcing herself to swallow the bread in her mouth before she choked. She searched Libby’s face, and shook her head. “No. No no no. Libby, Mandi and I haven’t been together for over 4 years. I was never even in love with her. I liked her, sure, and she is beautiful, which I only know because she’s always in a Victoria’s Secret catalog, but I’m not still into her.” she assured her. She only ever thought of Mandi when she saw her, but never really thought more of her. They had only been dating a month or so when everything went to shit, and even then Cate had feelings for her best friend, who didn’t return them. She looked into Libby’s eyes as she tucked a strand of her thick, dark hair behind her ear. “Not like you would have anything to worry about.”
She nodded, thougha sigh of relief might've been more appropriate. "Okay," she said after a beat, a small smile turning up the corners of her mouth as she felt Cate's fingers in her hair, "I was just curious, bonita, that's all. Sorry for prying." Standing there for a moment longer, Libby moved to the counter, pulling out two tupperware boxes from an overhead cabinet, boxing up the pao de queijo - one half for her sisters, the other for her new friend. "So," she said, looking over at the blonde again, not quite sure what to say.

Cate licked her lips, before nodding. “I know what you mean.” she said as she ran a hand through her blonde hair. “It’s okay. She’s off doing her modeling thi- I mean, she’s off doing her thing, and I’m here doing mine…” She blushed, before licking her lips. “And for the record, you’re someone special too. Really special.”
"Right." Libby nodded, pursing her lips, hesitatin. She wanted to acknowledge the other's compliment, but something else was on the tip of her tongue. "Are you still... into this girl, Cate?" she asked, trying to present to question as tactfully as possible. It wasn't that she was trying to stir up trouble, but she had been exactly truthful about why she'd been single for so long. And if she was honest with herself, Libby didn't know if she could bear being someone's rebound again.

Cate continued to eat her bread, but nearly choked with surprise when Libby said what she said. “Really?” she said once she was able to swallow. “I mean…I haven’t either but I would have thought that you…I mean, you’re just so hot, and you’re you know, out.” she said, hoping that she didnt come off as offensive. “I’ve only kinda sorta dated someone…I think it was maybe a month of dates before I messed everything up.”
She shrugged again. "I mean, I've gone out with a few girls, sure, but I've never had the time to really establish a relationship. Plus, I've never met anyone who really seemed wirth the effort." She bit her lip, then tacked on a, "Yet." Cocking her head a bit, Libby listened to Cate, grimacing a bit." I'm sorry it didn't work out," she offered genuinely, "she really missed out on someone special."

Cate found herself blushing again, looking away shyly. “You really know exactly what to say, don’t you?” she said, before taking a bite of another and just watching Libby. “You know, I think we talk about me too much. Tell me about you. Tell me something no one else knows.” she grinned cheekily, using the question she was asked earlier against her.
"I'm simply being honest, amor," Libby replied with a shrug. Humming thoughtfully, she couldn't help but notice the blush in Cate's face - it was just as adorable as the first time; she considered what to tell the girl. "Well,you already know I'm gay," she teased back, echoing Cate's initial response, "but, honestly, I've never had a girlfriend," she replied matter-of-factly.
It’s okay Libby. We’ve only known eachother for a couple of days. How about you just tell me how pretty I am in Portuguese and we will call it even, yeah?
Yes, but I pride myself on having impeccable memory - I should've remembered. How about I take you to dinner instead, and I tell you how gorgeous you are - mind you: very, very gorgeous - over supper?

Cate smiled to herself, looking down at the bread before tearing it in half and eating it. “Holy shit that’s amazing.” she couldn’t help herself from saying, and immediately covered her mouth. “Sorry.” she said softly, swallowing her half quickly, before eating the other. “Well, you really didn’t know me in high school. I’m much better now, but back when I was…Well, I guess since I was 12 or 13 I’ve had an almost crippling stutter. It still comes out when I’m extremely nervous, but it took almost 4 years to get where I am now.” she said matter of factly before finishing her biscuit.
Libby chuckled at the blonde's reaction. "Sim, we did good." Nodding as she listened, she furrowed her brow a bit at the other's words. "Well," the Latina said finally, "While I didn't know you back that, I would've been very privileged, to - stutter or otherwise. And for what it's worth, you're very lovely. I quite like where you are now." Eating the last of the crumbs, she wiped her hand on a towel on the counter, giving Cate a warm smile.
I’m doing well. Today was not as stressful as I was anticipating, and now I get to have ice cream with you. I say 20 is looking pretty good for me.

Cate grinned as she heard what she could only assume was something good coming from Libby’s lips. “I think I like the sound of that one.” she teased, before moving away just slightly to give the other girl some space. She knew if she didn’t they would probably end up somewhere even more private than the empty kitchen. Her grin turned into a big smile as Libby started to ramble. “You know, you ramble just like I do. You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you this but I am not always quite the Casanova.” she said as she grabbed one of the cheesy bread rolls.
"Shush," she warned, a smile breaking through, and Libby raked a hand through her long brown hair. "I am not rambling, I simply... have a lot to process, that's all." Chewing her lip, she leaned against the counter and snagged a biscuit, picking it apart eating a small piece at a time. Looking up, she couldnt help the surprise on her face. "No? So, you're telling me youre not really this smooth, bonita? I'm shocked."
